Result of commercialization of the sport ....
by Krishna Reddy on Aug 31, 2010 01:52 AM

Who is to be blamed for all this? Not the players, but the ones who crazily follows the game. Most of us pay more attention towards the game or at least the score board, which obviously our work/studies.

When there are followers, it's obvious that some one would try to encash it. In this case, there are lot many, including the bookies, players, the sponsorers, media etc. The sponsorers invest millions/crores and then try to earn much more than that, by getting their products endorsed by these players. The media earns by showing the advertisements more than the match itself. Now, there are sponsorers for toss, pitch report etc., which was not the case before this game has been commercialized a few years ago. Common man is the loser in all this, as more price needs to be paid for the product which actually might not cost that much had this sport not been commercialized this much.

Only when the craze comes down, everything would be in place.

IPL

Big money leads to corruption. Cricket has lost its glory ever since the game got commercialised. IPL has not done any good to Indian team. It has neither unearthed new talents nor given scope for out of form players to bounce back.Ban IPL and let cricket be played in proper spirit as the same was played during 70s and 80s. Also stop players from appearing in commercials or getting contracts for becoming branch ambassadors. Umrigar, Borde, Pataudi, Chandrasekar, Prasanna, Engineer, Solkar, Wadekar, Viswanath, Durani or Sardesai never appeared in any Ads nor were brand ambassadors yet they were very popular. Get us back the spirit of 60s, 70s and 80s.

The days of 60s to 80s are over, well and gone. Those were days of relaxed and easy paced life unlike today's fast paced life. Today, it is business that brings money to the game and the rules of the game are being dictated by them. So it has become commercialized like all games are. In an era when the cost of living is on the swing always, the cricketers also need enough money to fend for themselves after they retire.

You know what.. Pak team gave the entire money from their 3rd Test victory for flood relief. That might not even be 1% of what they earned during the entire tour. Not just players.. entire Pak team should be banned forever.
