The best way to stop it may be to announce that the players will not be penalized for such a thing and there will not be enquiry for any such thing and hence it can be expected always. Then I doubt how many will get into betting without knowing for sure the outcome of a specific bet he is getting into. Just a wild thought may be!

The best thing is to legalise betting as is done in England and Australia and most other developed Western nations. This will avoid dubious dealings and weeding out of shady characters.

The betting is legal in western countries, but only for people to bet. The players, coaches, Umpires, Refrees, Managers etc cannot bet and provide any information of any sort.

No, I would say the opposite. The source of the problem should be cut. Why allow for a practice which is the root cause of this. I don't think it is any injustice if people are not able to make money by betting.

U see betting is a legal profession in the West, England has some famous names like Ladbrookes, the bookies there are screened before they are allowed to become one. How the system is being implemented there can be studied and thought over. This way guys like Dawood Ibrahim and co can be avoided.
Of course, the flow of bad or illegal money must also be checked and curbed with an iron hand.

I understand; I have seen such offices in London. But I don't get the reason why the Ladbrookes etc. need to be allowed to run such a business. What good it does? Is it that it has become so big like alcohol, cigaratte etc. so that tax money is an issue. If so there is no right for anyone to complain about the bad effects also just as alcohol or tobaco.

U have a point there, but the betting scene cannot be done away with and it is best to accept that it is here to stay in one form or another. So to be safe side it is best it is legalised and rules framed to keep it in check. This way, chaps like Dawood and co can be kept at bay and law can be enforced better and easier.

Yes u are right, i read the same in newspapers. For all his eccentricities, Afridi seems to be a honest and straight forward man who calls a spade a spade.
I really feel sorry in a way for Pakistan cricket. None can deny that it has produced some of the greatest names in the game. I really felt much when the great Imran Khan AND Abdul Qadir spoke on TV blasting the players in a choking voice. They must have felt the pain for all the hard work that they had done for Pak cricket is being undone in a few years by some unscrupulous cricketers.
Cricket cannot afford to lose Pakistan, for it is vital for its growth and has been a powerhouse for years.
