Greg should do ganguli to Ponting
by swetha on Aug 25, 2010 09:59 AM

Greg should act aganist ponting and force him to retire from International cricket so that Greatest player of all time after bradman will have the record which no one is going to touch.
Only becuase Ponting is Australian they are making them big otherwise he just an AVERAGE BATSMAN and he is only successful in AUstralia and in other countries he always struggle.

By this way the Australian recism should get stopped.

Ponting is not Ganguly
by rajath on Aug 25, 2010 09:59 AM  | Hide replies

Purely from cricketing point of view Ponting is way ahead of Ganguly. Ganguly was slightly selfish(But his rank is after no.1 Dhobi and 2.Tendu) and not so skillful. Chappel was 100% right.

The even disastrous mistake Chappel did was, he tried to convert the superstar bowler Pathan a superstar allrounder (again a common Australian style of playing) & Pathan got destoyed.

Mr. Rajath, I have a question to you. If you feel Chappel was 100% right, can you justify India's performance in the World Cup?Ganguly was not the captain & Chappel got the team of his choice. What was the result? Why did then he escape from India after that devastating performance? If he was 100% right why did he create the unethical email issue with Ganguly?

I am not saying this to support Ganguly, but I strongly believe Ganguly was far better than any other contemporaries as a Front-leader. He may not be a world class batsman but much higher than average & a world class, one of the best ever captain. Just compare Chappel's performance in the last worldcup & Ganguly's Team India's performance in the last but one World cup. Everything will be clear. Chappel's problem was, he wanted somebody who will go by his words.Ganguly was not of that sort. It created ego-clash & both comitted the mistakes. Technically, Chappel didn't understand the difference between Indian & Australian style of playing. Indian style of playing depends on skill, not only on youth & energy. Skill doens't necessarily fade away with age. Thats why Sachin is still owning match for India, whereas taking the charge of India, Chappel (even his brother Ian) fisrt targetted Sachin (even before Ganguly). Chappel showed Shewag the exit door & just see now Shewag's performance after Chappel era. The even disastrous mistake

dont write alot of rubbish....have some cricketing knowledge.....u guys are good enough to polish chappel's shoe.....what chappel said at that time is exactly true.....look at sachin...how shamelessly hanging to his opening position and scoring his useless 100's on very flat pitch and ordinary bowling attacks, he never interested to play for team needs at middle order like dravid....his only ambition till to day is to score 50 one day and test 100's nothing else.....cleverly choosing which match to play on what surface and skipping rest of them .....he is solely responsible for india's exit during 2007 WC....unable to play at middle order for team needs, got out against BANGLA and lanka ataack......ganguly was an absolute waste meterial later for team india....eventualy kicked out....
great coach who had the vission, courage and ability to identify talent and impartial....sachin and ganguly backstabbed team india and captain dravid during WC 2007 and made chappel's exit....this is the truth....

I am really suspecting who are you. Hopefully you are not Kiran More or somebody like him who got some undue advantages to speak for Chappel. I also doubt if you have a minimum cricketing sense & hardly have held the willow. Just sit tight & learn the match instead of reading newspaper reportings & get biased with some artciles. Cricket is 11 persons' team game. Sachin/Ganguly is one of 11, what the rest 10 were doing ? Were the polishing Chappel's chappal ? Chappel has his great followers in the 2007 World cup team, Pathan was there, Dhoni was there & many more.. what did they perform ? I know, now you will say that, Sachin/Ganguly convinced the rest of the team to play in a wrong manner so as to expel Chappel, isn't it ? Ganguly has retired, Sachin is not playing in the present seris, so, what is the performance of Ind ? If you say Sachin scores only in flat pitches, still many matches he own for India. What our other youngstars do in those flat pitches ?
1st try to undrestand the game, then learn how to justify your biased sentiment. Just b'coz you have a login id in rediff, doesn't necessarily imply that you can vomit your personal hatred here.

sunil k, I have been following cricket for the last four and a half decades and would like some doubts clarified by u who "understands the finer aspects of the game, players ability, coaching aspect of the game etc etc."

Do you sincerely think that breaking up the most successful opening partnership was a very clever strategic move ?

Do you sincerely think that destroying one of the most successful bowlers then by putting additional pressure on him (when it was not at all necessary)was clever ?

Do you think that all 11 players in the team were wrong and suddenly lost form or decided not to play well and the only person right was the coach ?

As for flat pitch performances, I am surprised that the visiting team players are not able to do the same on flat pitches (there was one guy who mentioned Sachin's double century as one scored on a batting track - if that is the case then at least one of the other players who batted should have scored a double century in the same match or on any other flat batting track to support the argument!)

As for Sachin playing in the middle order, kindly enlighten me as to why he should do so when as an opener he is successfully scoring all those "useless 100s" (another sign of ur "understanding of the finer aspects of the game" !)

Just as Debashish, I would also advise that you read something about cricket, ask somebody knowledgeable about the game and

Because of our media he has to resign. India performance declined when Vengsarkar took over the charge from K.More.

Believe me, after a long time, I laughed a loud at this joke. I am sure Chappel can't stop himself if he comes across this joke. He has no imagination that he still has such strong fans in India.

Lastly, if Woolmer wouldn't have murdered, what would Chappel do after the debacle ? What do you think ? BCCI would welcome Chappel with rose garland at the airport & extend the contract for 10 years more, after creating so much hypes, controversies & conflicts within the team & moreover lying to each other for creating the conflict, so that he gets the team of his choice ?

Of course I need further clarification Mr Sunil ( I don't addres as Mr Idiot, bc'oz even if I address or not, it's quite obvious for people to realise that only an idiot argues with wrong arguments).

1) Do you believe Munaf Sreesanth RP Singh Uthhapa VRV Singh are bunch of talents guided properly by Chappel & they have changed the Indian cricket ? I want a Yes/No answer, not any explanation.

Hey rediff readers, please save this man (still I don't say 'save the idiot')

2) Who on the earth did tell you, youvraj was the uplifted talent by Chappel ? Please let us know the reliable source of this info.. I am really afraid, one fine morning you will say it's Chappel who nurtured Sunil Gavaskar, otherwise Gavaskar wouldn't have played test cricket, he was such a pathetic & selfish batsman.

3) Can you justify (if you remember or at least know) what was his attitudes towards Shewag ? Why did he destroy a talent like Irfan Pathan ?

4) B'coz of peopke like you our country is drownning. We don't value our own & always lick the foreigners feet, isn't it ? I know many people are corrupted here, probably in BCCI too, but can you tell me is Chappel himself not corrupted at all , why did he falsify so many statements, created the mail leaking issue, created conflicts within team & ultimately found a lier when cross-checked ?

5) Chappel was a wonderful cricketer, a knowledge barrel in batting, but that doesn't imply

In matches that India has won, Dravid averages 78.72 in Tests and 53.40 in ODIs.

He is one of the few Indians who average more at away matches than at home, averaging over 10 more runs a match abroad than on Indian pitches.

Greg the Gr8
by kusum chakravarty on Aug 24, 2010 06:47 PM  | Hide replies

Greg is gr8 4 8 reasons
1. Indians are engrossed in zonal politics Greg taught us way out
2. Most Bengalis may not be pleased with Ganguly but when he was dropped, he deserved the same at least 6months before.Greg had the guts to remove dictator dada.
3. Investment in youth is biggest gift of Greg
4. We reached No.1 in One Day and we r still no. 1 in Test this is possible because of Greg's Vision.
5. Yuvraj the best indian batsman owes his batting technique to Greg.
6. Dhoni has learnt leadership qualities and has stopped blind slogging and started batting sensibly because of Greg.
7.Even Tendulkar has to improve his ways because of Greg. Tendulkar like Gavaskar is a very selfish creature, Greg warned him if u want to be in indian team play for the team and win matches. No doubt Tendulkar became annoyed towards the end of Greg's Stint.
8. India lost World cup because of lathergic senior players fielding particularly Sachin Sourav Dravid and Kumble. Good that today we are a formidable team because of Greg

Re: Greg the Gr8

Let me rebut
1. Ganguly had long come out of this zonal business. Just see the way he backed Yuvraj, Sehwag, Harbhajan(none of them from his zone)
2.Maybe Ganguly should have reworked his game, but he was not the 1st captain to struggle with his game.
3. What youth? The guys who are performing either got into the team either before or after Chappell's stint. Talking about his management skills, haven't India lost Irfan Pathan because of the way Chappell played around with him?
4. The foundation for no.1 ranking was laid by John Wright. The very players whom Chappell tried to marginalise have brought India to No.1
5. Yuvraj, India's best batsman. Ha, Ha.
6. Dhoni improved as a batsman in the post Chappell period.
7. Tendulkar was going through a period of bad form and was injured. He was also slowly changing the way he plays. He did'nt need a Chappell to motivate him.
8. By the time World Cup 2007 came, only Dravid was on talking terms with Chappell. That was the reason why India lost. Because it was an unhappy team

Incidentally, Bob Simpson had warned India against appointing Chappell. He pointed out that Chappell, a great batsman, had a poor record as coach. Indian cricket made a mistake by appointing him.

At the moment old players are taken their place for granted and youngers player are directionless and unprofessional. We need strong selector/coach who forces basic disciplines on players.

look at srikanth, he failed to select proper team not one time but all the time. why BCCI ignoring pathan for so long but giving useless players 10-20chances.

nonsense.....dravid is a gem of a committed team player.....
it's because of sachin and ganguly india was crashed out of the WC...
both these are selfish and not committed to team needs.....
dravid gave evrything to team....kept wickets for 50 overs over 2 years, batted sensiblly at the middle order and finished important matches, batted at every possible batting order according to team needs.....
when he became the captain...this fellow sachin didnt and never helped team by playing at middle order, ganguly refused to open in a test match despite opening in more than 200 one dayers, he pissed in his pants...dravid took the bat and opened with sehwaag and scored 100 in a test match....

There is a lot of difference between opening in Tests and one day. Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh never opened for Australia in tests. Dravid became a keeper because Ganguly wanted him in the one day team. If Ganguly had not thrown Dravid this lifeline, Dravid would have lost his one day spot long ago. This is not to put down Dravid. He is beyond doubt one of the finest players of all time. You don't have to abuse Tendulkar or Ganguly to praise Dravid.

ganguly survived because of dravid.....a flat pitch bully like ganguly never had the ability to play a crucial role to win a test match or a one day series without the anchor man dravid....allmost all test and most of the one day series victories are mainly due to dravid's "multi tasking" abilities rather than than this good for nothing captain ganguly.....ganguly allmost non existant at the time dravid battled hartd for test and one day victories.....no one has the guts to to drop dravid at that time because he was the backbone...a virtual opener, a wicket keeper, solid finisher in one dayers.....absolute foolish and nonsense comments...
dropping dravid and playing a series...!!!! what a joke...
infact dravid saved ganguly wen chappel "kicked ganguly ass" during ZIM series wen he refused to practice.... again he saved him during PAK series when ganguly allmost "pissed" in his pants wen asked to open against PAK pace attack in a test match...dravid himself opened and scored back to back 100's....

Sunil & Kusum !! take a backseat & read a couple of Mgt books.

As a captain & leader it was Ganguly's job & duty to get the best out of his team. He literally took a broken & shattered team from Tendulkar who was demoralised & demotivated . also this very team was tainted with match fixing.
A leader uses people & man management skills to get his team to go for breakthru results.
After Australia had steamrolled India in the first test, it took brilliant captaincy to get india the win in the second test & then go on to win the series. He blooded youngsters & would fight with selectors to have them play in at least 5 matches before deciding there fate. Which other indian captain stood up for his players before Ganguly??
Would Dhoni have come into the indian team if Dada had not backed him? Dhoni paid Dada his due respect when in his last match he carried him off the field on his shoulders.
If Dada used Dravid by multitasking him ,what is wrong with that?

Sunil & kusum, Dada is one of the legends of cricket & change the culture in the Indian dressing room from being losers & pushovers to winners who would match aggression. Pls do not tarnish his image by promoting Greg Chapell whose biggest claim to fame in Indian cricket was losing the world cup 2007.

I look forward to your replies

going by Mgt books, chappell should most superior in idea and vision.

The reasons india losing matches and not dominating world cricket are
- selectors
- dirty politics at selection and between players dhoni, and shewag
- lack of discipline and professional attitude.
- players take their place in team for granted. for ex yuvi, bajji
- loads of money from ads, IPL, and promotions
- lack of quality bowlers.
- not giving chances to young players in test. (IMO, player should be given chance in test before he play for one day.)
- lack of aggression

india was never consistent. they win 5 matches and lose 4 matches, it does matter who lead the team. all same. in fact, it will repeat for next 20years.

an idiot like u can read a book and comment like this.....watch a cricket match and know the performances.....ganguly hardly spent a time at the middle for the team cause....allways sitting in the the dressing room and "enjoying" match winning performances of dravid's and laxman's.....neither a good player against quality pace attack nor a leader led frm the front....allways hid behind dravid whever there is a bit of grass on the pitch , skipped matches, faked injuries, never played at the top order ina test match when needed.....allways a media darling.....u call him a leader...???
what a joke..!!!!
stop reading books....start watching matches and appreciate real performers....not nonplaying and non performing captain..

Dravid was top run scorer in the 7th World Cup(1999), scoring 461 runs. He is the only Indian to score two back to back 100's in World Cup's.He scored 110 vs Kenya and followed it with a masterly 145 vs Sri Lanka in Taunton in a match where he kept wickets later. He was vice captain during 2003 World cup where India reached the final, serving his team in the dual capacity of batsman and wicket keeper to accommodate additional batsman, a move that paid huge dividends for India

Where is Ganguly and Sachin in this world cup??

We lost the final ... U knw Why????? Great Sachin out for Duck in very first over in a BIg Match .....

Dravid is great than Sachin and Ganguly .

In matches that India has won, Dravid averages 78.72 in Tests and 53.40 in ODIs.

Scored nearly 23% of the total runs put up by India (with a batting average of 102.84) in the 21 Test matches won under Ganguly's captaincy. This is the highest percentage contribution by any batsman in Test cricket history in matches won under a single captain where the captain has won more than 20 Tests
