sehwag did not claim he is a saint. in fact he openly said/admitted that such things are done. opposition records are tried to be avoided/stopped.

sameer, you mean to say...you can violate the game's spirit for win...but with same logic why not for other reason that only Randiv and team mates know.

No.. but atleast they were trying to achieve something.. that is to win the match... yesterday there was really no outcome to what randiv was trying.. its just jealousy

agree with Sameer... LG, you can't compare the two.. one was for a team/nation to win the game, in this instance, it was to deny a person a century. Sri lankans are known for such tactics- this is not the first instance.

My point is...if the end results--spirit of the game violated--are same, then it make no difference what were the means whether

1. Randiv bowling a no ball deliberately

2. Sehwag deliberately pushing the ball for four

3. Some captains using negative tactics for stop the flow of the runs

Sehwag finally brings his Test form to ODIs
by Senthil on Aug 17, 2010 11:15 AM  | Hide replies

Virender Sehwag has had something of a lean spell in one-dayers, which came to an end with a match-winning unbeaten 99 against Sri Lanka

I think he had 12 Innings with out a single Fifty and Avgs around 23 before this match from that 12 Innings

He played a more mature Innings and scoring around 60 SR when India in trouble and playing very very sensibly and controlled himself for not going for big shots

Strange rules
by Rajesh Shetty on Aug 17, 2010 11:14 AM  | Hide replies

Here is a very strange irony in cricketing rules. Hope ICC takes note of this.
1. If on 170, Sehwag would have hit a six off a legal ball, the score becomes 176, and not just 171. The other 5 runs are counted even though at the very first run the match is deemed won.
2. In the middle of a match, a six off a no ball is still a six for the batsman.
3. If the batsman is run-out of a no-ball, he is still given out inspite of an extra run on the scoreboard.
4. One famous example I would like to quote during 1987 India-Pak series. Last ball Pak needed 2 runs for a win, they had 1 wkt in hand. According to the rules of those days, even if they had scored 1 run without losing a wicket, the scores would have tied and Pak would have still won the match. But Quadir went for a 2nd run(maybe not knowing), and got run out by Azhar. So bcos of this inspite of a tie, India won the match. Now here why should the attempt for the 2nd run not be considered redundant, since after the 1st run, Pak has won the match ? Now if someone says its bcos 'the ball is in play', then the same thing applies to the Randiv no-ball bcos the ball is still in play. We have seen players getting stumped(i.e run out ) off a no-ball too. So I feel the rule is inconsistent here.
4. One more situation - what if a batsman goes for a pull/hook shot, hits a winning last ball six, but in the process loses balance and falls of the wicket ? So he is hit wkt after the match ended(won), so is he out ?

Good Logical Arguments , Rajesh !

Read my comment at the top & tell me what is the hitch ?
It appears that all the people involved are ONLY interested in making noises without doing the logical thing & putting the matter to rest.

Why so much fuss...was it the first time
by LG on Aug 17, 2010 11:11 AM

the spirit of the game violated? Sadly, Cricket is no more a gentleman game--accept it or not.

No doubt, it was wrong to bowl no ball deliberately.

But this is not the first of its kind when the spirit of the game has been violated...have you not seen captains using negative tactics to stop the flow of the runs?

So the question is which is a bigger vice considering the spirit of the game.

If you all are true cricket fans and care about sportsmanship, raise your voices whenever the spirit of the game is violated.

Well, there are cases where a few Indian players (Jaychands) denied their fellow players some milestones or tried to stop from reaching ones.

Stop being partial & selective in raising your voices.

DHONI IS A COWARD
by sameer on Aug 17, 2010 11:10 AM  | Hide replies

He is a big coward !!
Why did he send virat kohli and rohit sharma ahead of himself and his beloved Raina to face the swinging ball !!
As a captain he should have taken the responsibility.. he came in the end to play the spinners and show that he can finish the game when it was already won by sehwag... what happened against newzealand in the previous match when the team really needed him and he got out like a schoolboy !!
What a shame !!

Not only that.. he always comes in the end of an already won match and tries to remain not out for improving his average.. he has more not outs to his name than even a sehwag or a yuvraj who have played 100 more matches than him.. this guy is pathetic.. enjoying on the efforts of sourav ganguly who gave india gems like sehwag !!

My Dear POTENTIAL CAPTAINS all of you,

It is easy to criticize from outside & OVERLOOK THE FACT that there are "many factors" to be considered before the batting order is decided.

Are you guys 100% certain that Dhoni "does not have confidence in the abilities of his team mates" ? THAT would have been a fair reason for him to promote himself to no.#3 . But then, why have these two guys in the team at all ? Have they not justified themselves at #3 & #4 earlier ?

Lack of Sportsman Spirit
by satish bhatla on Aug 17, 2010 11:10 AM

This is purely neither the spirit of cricket nor the sportsman spirit. But this is really very very shameful on part of the lankans players, particularly the Captin Sangakara in fact it is only Sangkara who had given such instructions to Randiv to go for the no ball.. What a great actor, director he is...? He should have been in Bollywood trying his luck over there after saying that he wasn't aware of such incident as if some OWL was comanding as Captain...? what a crap..? Good on the part of Sehwag who has shown the sportsman spirit & have denied for the hundred...Satish Bhatla

No, the rule sucks, They count the ball as Batsman faced the delivery but they take out the runs scored off that delivery. You can't justify this damn rule.
