true sanga is 33 when he got the 8000 runs and sachin was 29 years that is because sachin joined the team when he was 16 where as sanga joined the team when he was 24.... in other words sachin played for 13 years 154 innings and then got 8000 runs where as sanga played for 10 years and got the 8000 in 152 innings

Kumar Sangakkara averages 76.54..
by anand ganesh on Aug 18, 2010 12:39 PM

He has played 91 tests. Of these 48 are as wicket keeper and 43 are not as wiketkeeper. In the 43 tests that he did not keep wickets, he has hit 16 centuries, got 4900 runs and averages 76.54. Sachin pales into insignificance in front of Sangakkara

But he is 4 year older then Tendulakar when he crossed 8K
by TeraBaap on Aug 07, 2010 12:17 AM

Good feat but he is 33 years old compared to Sachin was 29 years when he acheived it. So reaching beyond 10K will be very difficult but still good job

Helps when you play Zim and Bangles often...

It also helps when you don't have to worry about Michael Holding hurtling down to bowl any number of bouncers an over WITHOUT any helmet, chest guard etc.

In the good old days of the "the dangerous dominance of speed" a batsman put a few handkerchiefs/socks in his pocket as a thigh guard.

Compare that with modern batsmen.

Also in erlier days we used to have freedom fighters who fought for India's independence. Today we have people like us who slam India on rediff without lifting a finger to help.

Check youtube for Richards and Lillee - Four bouncers in a row to Viv Richards in a cap followed by a yorker and clataax....

These days with the helmets no ones afraid of bouncers which you can't bowl too many anyway.

Very valid point! Gone are the days, when scoring runs was challenge! Administrators have made cricket one sided affair.

Earlier days you don't need to play and adjust your self in too many formats.. you don't need to play so many matches , you don't need to improve urself always as with latest technology ur slightest of weakness will be visible to everyone, you don't need to take the pressure of billions of people watching the game across the globe... Only thing you have to have a Cricket Technique to sustain yourself against fast bowling...Not bothering how fast u have to score runs.. Any how even Ordinary players must have that technique of saving himself otherwise we would have heard many accidents in history ,..but if you see history very few had serious issue in cricket ground......

Precisely - everybody is afraid of their own life. So the batsmen did not get totally behind a short delivery, consequently they got out etc....

These days batsmen get in line and get tonked on helmet a lot.... but so what.

Check the video of Sachin tonked on the helmet by a Shoaib bouncer on youtube - in the good old days like with Nari Contractor that could have meant end of career...

so what's wrong in it (having facilities in modern era)? In next 8-10 years we may have more facilities but changes are normal. Joydip is right. That time there was no technology to find out a batsman's weakness. Today there are a lot of things with that you can examin a batsman's playing style. Captain's are more matured now and use a lot of tactics to get a batsman out. There wer eno ODI's or T-20's then and tests matches were also played once in a while. Grounds could be count on fingers! If you got to play a match against the same opponent everytime you'll be get used to that. I don't know you ever played a cricket match or not but if you did you might have the feeling of those experiences. I play cricket as a bowler and not very good in batting, but I can hit my friends for a few sixes who regularly play with me. But, outside i'm 0! It's because I'm used to play their bowling!

Just because Indian bowlers did not study the opponents in past don't presume others did not do the same. Opposition research was well established even before WWII and Jardine and Bradman and Larwood and Bodyline etc... Bottom line batsmen were helped immensely by helmets, thigh guard, chest guard, visor etc. These remove fear of fast bowling which was the essense of cricket in the past.
