Money in sports
by S N on Apr 20, 2010 01:12 PM

Dear There is no shortage of money in Indian sports (& I am talking about non cricket sports). Our sports probably have more money than the developed countries. The problem is that this money is eaten up by the administrators (all politicians - chors) & the bureaucrats (their chamchas). None of this huge money goes to the sports persons.

Do you know that India has such beautiful laws that any person who plays for a state team becomes eligible for a job in the state government & any person who has played in the national team of any sport is eligible for a central government job. However the politicians & bureaucrats will get their people selected in teams (doesn't matter if they dont even know to play the game) & then immediately get jobs & flats. Yes sports persons are also entitled to flats free of cost & on greatly discounted prices.

The problem of other sports is not lack of money, it is lack of will.

IPL - Indian Premier League ...really ?
by Ganesh on Apr 20, 2010 11:02 AM  | Hide replies

IPL means Indian Premier League isn't it ?

Don't you feel that too many foreigners are involved in IPL including the foreign dancing girls, foreign umpires, foreign commentators, staff and all :-)

Why are we then calling it Indian Premier League ?

As of now a max. of 4 foreigners are allowed to play for each IPL team, which means nearly 40% of team is foreigners. Only 60% of it is Indian. Also some teams have foreigners captaining these so called Indian teams.

I feel atleast 75% to 80% of IPL team should be Indian players.

Only a max. of 2 foreign players should be allowed in each team (to cover for 1 batsman (could be wicket-keeper batsman, if needed) and 1 bowler only). The remaining 9 players should be Indians only. Give more chances to Indian players to benefit and earn money out of India. Why give millions of Indian money to foreigners ? Encourage Indian talent instead. Its strange to see talented Indian cricketers sitting on the bench wearing some orange or flouroscent green jumpers and 40% of team with foreigners playing in their place in every match.

Do u like it when the like tendulkars and gangulys and for that matter numerous indian players play in county cricket in england? Indian premier league just means a league that has originated in india and does not necessarily mean that the players should also be indian...for that we have Ranji and Duleep trophies.

on sports aND CRICKET
by raman govindan on Apr 20, 2010 09:44 AM

1) It is not possible that these people can be allowed unless they are made accountable. We have requested the courts that they be brought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Once accountable for a non profit organisation , they become like govt. servants, they keep accounts but no productivety.

2.Beyond a point you can't make any body fully transparent. But, eventually, owing to pressure, the body has to come out clean in the public domain.I would say cricket is far better managed, far better marketed as compared to other sports in our country. It has, in fact, become a profession today. It's a model that needs to be followed.

right on the spot!

Betting and flush funds in IPL
by satish upganlawar on Apr 20, 2010 09:32 AM

Every where there is betting infact our news channel shows various rate betting happens on Monsoon, Sania's Marriage, Horse races (which is legal) ZEE groups lottery, Bingo, Lottery of various states, one number lottery, Betting on elections. Why not legalise the betting in India more over lottery, horse races are legal then why not betting. If anything can change then remove politician from sports . See how gill sport minister and Police officer Gill destroyed Hockey and other sports. Mr Gill sport minister why he is poking nose in cricket where sportperson are getting lot of money state association have money new sport facilities are coming up in all cities even in unknown destination like Dharmashala

IPL is the message that we r no more people with crab mentality
by realtalk on Apr 20, 2010 01:21 AM

we dont have the courage to digest any change, we r so burried in that socialist mentality and IPL has turned out to be one more dinosaur. this is the time to decide whether cricket goes hockey's way or hockey is liberated from the clutches of beaurocrats and becomes cricket and like wise other sports too.
