Kallis and his ‘anchor’
by vathula on Apr 05, 2010 06:50 AM  | Hide replies

Kallis is anchoring his team at a run rate of 7 per over. The anchor is so strong, utappa or Ross taylor can not de-anchor the ship and strive for a run rate of 9.
Uthappa is the man for RCB- he gives chances; you take him, then RCB will struggle.
Look at all the matches won by RCB and Uthappa has score at a strike rate of 200

No bloody anchor is needed in 20/20. Kallis greed for golden bat will clearly cost the RCB. Ever wondered why DD dropped him thrice??? Of course he is most valuable player for opposition.

Junior Don, don't talk like a fool. Only if there are people like Kallis, the other batsmen can go all out and score.
By the way this pitch was made to suit Delhi which had many spinners. The situation was compounded by poor team selection from Kumble.

RCB wrong strategry.
by spring on Apr 05, 2010 06:44 AM  | Hide replies

though bengaluru team look strong on paper but lack strategy.

when they bat first
- they should target 180-200
- show more aggression

While chasing
- instead of maintaining wicket and batting slow, they should maintain R.Run rate. otherwise, they will put unnecessary pressure on incoming batting.

current strategy seem maintaining wickets early than scoring run. which is wrong idea in 20-20.

Big hitter like C.White, Piterson, R-Taylor, need to settle early and go for big hits

maintaining wickets is not strategy but greed of kallis for golden bat and average. Clearly he is another Bradman in making but he has forgotten that it is competitive cricket nowadays.

Looks like Mumbai and DD will have reached Semis
by Ponting Punter on Apr 05, 2010 02:24 AM  | Hide replies

Mumbai and Delhi are a yard close to make it semis. If DC and CSK win in next couple of days and RCB loses to MI,we have a great, great matches ahead before semis. MI and DD are close to make it semis. Looks like RCB is shattered in the last few matches. CSK, RCB and RR will have a tough fight for last two semi final spots. KKR and DC are on the verge of losing it out. KKR is disoriented and DC still struggling to find out what's wrong with them.

RCB, get rid of Kallis before he screws up your any hopes!!!
by PP on Apr 05, 2010 12:03 AM  | Hide replies

Kallis has been consistently sucking more than 8 overs almost every match scoring at far below the Required rate; that has been the single-most cause of RCB's failures so far. In the games RCB won, it was utappa/kohli who rescued (compensated), but Kallis got credit. Simple logic says your best hitters need to play the most balls. To me Kallis looks like a selfish player. Even Dravid will play better than him I think. Kevin Peterson is overhyped, not a big hitter, and not someone who would mix well with team.

My suggestion (in batting order):

Pandey
Utappa
Taylor
Dravid
Kohli
White/Boucher
Eoin/KP (preferably Eoin)
Steyn/Mithun
Vinay
Appanna/Praveen (depending on pitch)
Kumble

In non-consequentical matches, Kumble should give chances to Dravid/Eoin/White up the batting order to get them into form and confidence.

Fully agree. Dravid can do much better job than Kallis. Kallis should be given a break. He gives runs at around 9 per over and scores at around 7 per over which makes a big difference. Infact Kallis is amongst the list of bowlers who gave max number of runs this year in IPL. It is high time RCB opens with Dravid instead of him.

I think you have a point and rationale behind what you say especially about Kevein Peitersen and Kallis.

RCB won at least 3 matches because of Kallis. Unlike other players in the team, he doesn't flourishes on dropped catches.

Mumbai Indians have played only 8 games not 9 as indicated by the author. Does a moderator exist at rediff for publishing or its just an auto program for comments. Seriously media in India needs regulation!

Jay
Pietersen
by Jay on Apr 04, 2010 11:23 PM

Pietersen is taking time to get adjusted to the needs of T20. He almost played for a losing cause in the last match which was finally rescued by Uthapa. People praised KP for his innings. Today also he played below the required run rate, but Uthappa and Taylor could not rescue. With Kallis anchoring and batting at required rate, the men at the other end should really go after the bowling. They anyway have another wall even if Kallis fails.
