Ganguly performance in IPL:

Season 1 - 13 matches, 3 fifties, SR 113
Season 2 - 13 matches, 0 fifties, SR 91
Season 3 - 8 matches, 2 fifties, SR 113

Overall - 34 matches, 5 fifties, SR 105

If Ganguly fans still thinks he is consistent, playing well and fit for T-20, I can't change their mind set. They are free to compare these stats with other players of KKR and his age group like Hayden, Gilly, Sachin, Kallis etc.

Is Ganguly the suitable batsman for T-20 ? Is he the best captain in this format of the game? No not atall. But surely he is most popular personality in IPL.SHARUKH-SOURAV combination is earning money.KKR may be last in the league table but they will take 1st postion if you consider the team as best money earning team. And surely IPL is only the money earning tournament not conventional cricket tournament.

our debate is its only ganguly who performs for KKR and thts the reason for him to not go after each and every ball...performance of an individual is determined by many factors like pitch, team support and keeping wkts at one end..

Tendulkar was a collosal flop in first two editions of IPL, he flourishes this season due to a strong team....

This argument is not acceptable because in the first two edisions he had a poor coach to work with and particularly the mess he created in the second edision by not giving Ganguly enough opportunity and right batting position.

Now whether you like it or not he is in the top 5 run getters in this IPL. Why the hell you are asking us to compare his stats with Gilly, Hayden etc. Just compare his stats with R Dravid, VVS Laxman, Jayasuria, Sangakara, Jayawardene etc. Even Sachin's stats is worst in the first two IPLs and only in this he started to blossom. Look at the performance of Yuvraj this season.
Basically, one has to understand that KKR was at the rock bottom and helpless situation in the last season and ONLY because of DADA they are now competing heavily for a SF berth.
I'm quite impressed with the way Saurav is fighting to get back to his batting form and also carrying the burden of captaincy with less talented players like Agarkar,Puraja,Tiwari,Mandeep Singh,Dinda,Shuka,Saha etc. Look at the domestic players for other teams (Uttapha, Dravid, Kumble, Vinay Kumar) for RCB, (Sehwag,Gambir,D Karthick,A Mishra) for Delhi, (Fazal,Ojha,Y Pathan,Jujunwala,Dogra,M Patel) for Rajasthan, (Tiwary,Tendulkar,Harbhajan,Zaheer) for MI. So given the kind of local resources KKR has S GANGULY , the DADA is the ONLY hope !!!

If you guys have sense you will understand this.

its unfair to ask ganguly to bat like yusuf pathan. Yusuf is an exceptional talented player but it is very very short carrer (like hitting 10 runs in 2 balls). But Sourav is a retired cricketer, who always tried to give justice to the job given to him. Comparing to so many youngsters who are the present players at national & international level, struggling to get few runs,it is very hard working effort by sourav.
my salute to him

So many names...
by sdfgdfsgdfg dfgdfgsdfg on Apr 02, 2010 11:49 AM  | Hide replies

Dada/ Prince of Kolkata/ Maharaj/ Royal Bengal Tiger - he is certainly not the Krishna of 108 Gopis and a few hundred names - but in this modern era of Kalyug, he certainly is a big brand, a big screen presenced icon. And that is not without a reason.
Critics have always tried to downplay him talkin bout his batting abilities, and yes, we agree that he has some shortcomings, and has a scope to improve. But then I said earlier, batting is not the only element he has become a 'DADA' for:
1) A POWER LEADER: who instills faith in his team and gives them the required confidence. Remember, he resurrected the team to winning habits after it was plagguing with the jinx and black spots of match fixing.
2) A HUGE AMBASSADOR OF SPORTS AND SPORTSMAN SPIRIT: His candid admissions and fair judgements make him so.
3) A FIGHTER: that he is, who ne'er gives up easily. He does run thru bad patches, but comes back fighting. How many players cud have had the courage to face the critical media and people, and pressures of the million fan piining hopes and expectatins from him time and again? Not even a batsman of Tendulkar's class cud have taken that kindaa pressure.
4) A GR8 ORATOR: His communication skills just cannot be matched with any past or present day captains, excepting Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri. I think, Murli Karthick also has a very good hold over this skill, but lacks on other traits of leadership. But yesss, this art of communique is important to be a good leader.

@ Anurag strike rate is not an indicator for success. Agreed 113 is not a high one, but any bum can score 10 of 2 balls ( no pun intended)get out, and still boast of a fantastic strike rate

If you will see the SR of R.Bopara, J.Kallis etc. It's not too high. But because of their consistency it can be ignored. In case of Ganguly he played only 3-4 inning in all three IPL with this SR.

I am cricket fan not any individual fan. And whatever I am talking is true. I never said he was poor captain or poor batsman.

I am saying he is not best choice in KKR playing X1.

Yes he is the first choice in KKR XI. Anurag u say Ganguly is behind may in tests. But u never say that Dravid, Laxman r far far far behind Ganguly in ODI and overall Cricketing performance. Only God Tendulkar(He is God pls do not touch him) could have taken so much pressure like Ganuly and perform.
