India still have a chance
by Zulfiqar Gul on Sep 27, 2009 09:56 PM  | Hide replies

India still hava a chance to make it semi final. this current Australia side is not good to be scared of. im not sure why they still keep going with dravid who's already 36 years old. bring back Rohit Sharma who can get things moving at good pace in ODI.

Dear Gul, we have enough confidence on our Indian selectors. Just that we are facing a bad time that will change soon. You may probably look into how to stop ill-treatment given to the PAK team given by your public whenever they happen to lose. We shall prove ourselves soon, you don't need to get tensed about it.

Current Indian Team

Our current Indian team really looked out of form.Bowlers let the team down. The selectors should select bowlers who can also bat.Its really pathetic that India with million of population was unable to select allrounders for the team.1983 world team had allrounders in Kapil, Binny , Mohinder, Madan and so on.

why don't we play allrounders??
by cool dude on Sep 27, 2009 08:55 PM  | Hide replies

Why don't we have allrounders in the team..In my Irfan pathan could have been very handy coz no other bowler except nehra is better than him in the current team..So we could have had one extra batsman who is infact very good..leave alone irfan can't we just have good allrounders in the teamm..look at SL,SA ,AUS ..they have genuine allrounders..And I don't understand the concept of not playing irfan coz he is not bowling well..See malik,Afridi they were they have just either bowler or batsman..now after few years they are their genuine allrounder...Infact malik came as a spinner..but c he was the captain of the team and also now their frontline batsman...We need all rounders badly..

Yes, if we had Irfan Pathan, we would have got 1 batsman plus. That may have given us a better chance as well instead of getting a feeling of all-out at 7 wickets down

mudassar, zaheer, miandad, inzy, younuz, yusuf, shoaib, all pak when they are out of form and touch would love to play against india. and all of them has succeeded for the last 36 years. any more proof needed? not merely pak, but all countries, it applies. gooch, gower, botham, denness, boycs, amiss, greig, lamb, smith, trecos, boon, march, chappellis, bobby, gilly, damien, ponting, sir viv, richie, hooper, the list is endless. any one with the sense of history of cricket will understand what i am telling.

I am from Pakistan, read your review which shows that its more disgust than a probe inside the debacle for the loss. I for the past 2 years have thought that Pak can beat India any day for the below mentioned reasons.
India has always relied on batting, had greats like Vishy, Gavy and all and depend on a time on just one to win them a match. The results are India not winning any WC in the past 10 years having Gangs,Dravid, Tens and Lax's in their lineup. It was always Tendu and many times when he went psychologically India lost. The Chennai test is a prime example. Hardly anyone rose to the occasion. Which gave Tendu a certain kind of immunity from being dropped.
India's bowling has been weak but not true at all. The main reason in my humble opinion is that there was no competition between bowling and batting lineup. Batting you had Tendu as a guru but bowling none. Glory keeps you going was not the case with India.
Then there is another fact. The jinx or ghosts get stuck to team India like anything. The Sharjah ghost led to Nehru cup loss where Saleem malik took the match from no where to the hands of his team. For good 10 years that i had followed cricket between india and Pakistan i saw matches where it was known that Pakistan will pevail. All we needed to get was Tendu and that all. Rest will perish. It was not the case with Pak, T20 loss to India did not deter them, thelahore incident did not deter them, new guys and many losses did not deter them and the team is

the team is coming into shape. All they needed was a strong head in the captains department.

Now why Pakistan prevailed here is that Pak team has icons but it does not follow them. Wasim Waqar played like regular players in Pak side and were not revered as Tendu is revered. If there was any then i guess Wasim is a god of cricket as well as Imran Miandad Waqar. The reason here was that bats like Saeed, Aamir, Inzi wanted to do good to have a mark on the bowling, while bowling always worked hard to get the credit for the win. Imran and Miandads rivalry helped pak for the very reason that Mian wanted glory for himself while Imran through bowling to him. Many times it were the bowlers that dominated cause they were just players. Even today people my like Afridi, Miandad Wasim and all but during their careers they were axed dropped many times. No icons.
Team India played very well in the last 2-3 years and thats about it. IPL came, icons created but the most wicket taker in the first IPL Sohail Tanvir is not in Pakistani squad for a year. But Rohits,Joginders Kohli and Gauti are famed so much that when it matters they fail. They carry the same IPL persona in the internal cricket which is totally different front he dancing gals on the stage and songs with SRK and Shilpa in the stands.
India needs to cool it down. YUvi and Sehwaq cost india the match. You can not match Gauti with Sehwag even of the latter fails, no comparison of yuvi with Kohli or any in the line.

Bowling, india needs variation. Gone are the days of Turbantor. Pakistani ace Saqlain has long been discarded, was one of the best off spinner in the world with inventions like doosra under his name. No he is long gone, could have played 2-3 years more but Malik came, had batting plus bowling. India seriously needs some variation. The turban should be sent to the plains of Punjab to drive his hummer and plough some fields.
Gauti is a class act but like Pakistani Amir Sohail again lost his cool in the match. Last time he did it in t20 with Afridi, yesterday he again did it, shwing aggression, result? a silly runout cause his mind was clouded. Even if he had survived that runout he would have gone in 10 more runs, cause Pakis worked him up and he got into the groove.
The Wall should seriously think about saying good bye to cricket along with Tendu. India has a great side, 2 youngsters with a years play will make india formidable. Remember how Gambhir used to get out cheaply when he came for the first time. persistence is the key with key players which results in players like Afridi who now think when they play!

our captain is not able to judge wicket perfectly. We need bowl full on this wicket. Experienced bowlers like Harbhajan bowled too short on this wicket. Also We never seen so many fours went through cut short. I have not seen a single cover drive from the senior Pakistan batsman. Your judgment is perfectly right. We need to give chance to youngster rather than trying older people. We can see the difference in the fielding unit.

@Gugga.. nice comments
But you forgot India was no. 1 team before this match and it was no. 1 because of its consistent performance in last 2 years.. Just one loss will not change much. Also in abscence of Viru,Yuvi and Zak pakistan team was better. Once they are back India will again be no. 1 :)

Fahim yes india is consistent like SA,remember they are called chokers? semi final t20 they lost to Pakistan,India played well for the last 2 years but before setting your feet in the ground youhave to leave past glories behind you. Else Pak can live for another 4 years by claiming we have won 69 matches while india has 45. India in the matches where it matters perishes alog with Tendu. Notmeaning all but more persihes than glory!Pak on the other side plays bad many times more but wins important encounters. No where i commented india is not a great side! India has the venom and being i love to see the same contest again but what i am saying is what india should do to avoid such things. Which is confidence. Consider Tendu just a regular player not a god else Wasim Waqar Imran and Miandad precede him in getting that title so does Kapil Gavaskar Vishy!

I tell you again, no one is number one. If the title alone can lead you to win then Aussies the number one had lost to minnow Bangla's and Pakistan which played 1999 WC final lost to Bangladesh on their way.

well india has always been poor in chasing a stiff target....but players like dravid make it even more difficult,no doubt he is considered a great player but he simply could not rotate the strike..that was 1 reason gambhir was run out...secondly i think india had a great chance to win that match if pathan had kept a cool head...it luks like every second ball he wants to hit for a six or four...and i am still suprised sum1 like abhisek nayar or pandey is not given a chance instead of virat kohli...guys pls comment and correct me if i am wrong..

The guys you pick cause of their action in T20 2007 will lead you with nothing. Pak scrapped Sohail Tanvir after he did not bowl and result you have Aamir. Shoiab can not make it in the side. You have Asif, Umar Rana and Sami is not in the side. Make these IPL persona carrying guys work for their place in the side. Else live in the fantasize of The Wall, The master blaster, The Prince of Calcutta and the Turbanator!
