He acheieved something no one else had achieved before, winning 2 WCUPS as captain without losing a single game, yes WINDIES won 2 wcups in a row,but not without losing a single game, plus those days the number of teams were less, also AUS have won wcups 4 times,so AUS is way better and Ponting is a great captain.he scored that match winning innings in 2003 WCUP where he smashed Bhajji and co to pieces, any one remember that?yea ur idol sachin scored 4 in that game and no wonder none of u point out that about Ponting. U dont have to throw out good players in ur team to prove ur a good captain and winning with average players.A captain is as good as his team,no one in the history of the game won with losers in the team,so this argument as to Ponting had a good team to not be considered a great captain is nonsense,he is a good captain..u cant win always and now he lost ashes twice so whats the big deal. Our captain Saurav never won us WCUP or a series in England(it was 1-1 in 2002) nor a series in WINDIES nor a series in AUS,still he is considered a great captain...then why not Ponting? U guys r just jealous of AUSSIES,cause they won soooooooo much...and Ponting is a great batsmen, both ODIS and Tests...

Eh! Ponting ke chamche...! Dont forget what he did in Australia... took a catch which was grounded and did all the drama... that was humiliating..... He is a spoilsport.... just like symmo...
The W/L record is fantastic which shud b praised, but punters real test was this Ashes, he had a good team not grt8 as was in 2005 but i thnk he jus cudnt inspire the team enough to pull of Ashes... remember S.Waugh in 1999 WC, K.Dev 1983 WC, Imran K 1992 WC, A.Ranatunga 1996...all these r considered grt8 captains bcoz they dint hav grt8 team but they were inspirational cud motivate players... punter has done wel by keeping off ego clashes with half of the team filled with legendary players...but not a grt8 captain...
I really admire Ponting for his clever captaincy and burdening the pressure of his team and also performing at such high levels consistenly. He is a role model and great ambassador for the sport. His unselfish and aggressive approach might make some jealous of him, still he can make his bat talk to shut their ass.

Role model of cheating...pressurising umpires to raise the fingers.....How can you forget his misbehaviour with hotel staff at bangalore when he was quite young....his approach had ruined career of Jason Gillespie....wow great ambassador for the sport.....pathetic....
Ponting is the greatest captain, right ? He has won 2 World Cups for his team, right ? All right, let's just accept that he's the greatest captain.
Now answer this - why is Australia currently struggling after the retirement of Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden, Martyn, Langer ? Why did he as a captain lose the Test series against India in November 2008, Test and ODI series at home against South Africa and the recent Ashes series ? After all he is the greatest captain right ? He should have maintained those standards even after the retirement of his former team mates.
Accept it - Ponting may be a good captain, but his achievements as a captain is largely because of the extra-ordinary team he has the fortune of leading. Even Sehwag or Dravid or Tendulkar would have enjoyed such captaincy records if they got the opportunity to lead such an incredible and dominating team.

@Dire Straits, who said to u ponting is greatest captain.......even ponting will not say this........ by the way good u admit that ponting has now a very mediocre team to lead...but with that team he beat SA in test series in their soil.....please tell me how many so called great captains had achieved that in past and its a gr8 achivement bcoz barring johnson he had no good bowler in SA...
And by the way by only statistics we called sachin the greatest batsman ever and we all know that is true...so seeing at his stat as a captain atleast give him some respect as a captain....no one had said he is greatest captain but he is good captain for sure
And having a gr8 team was not his fault.....its australia's talent..........but with those legends aussie selectors choose him ahead of them........so they surely saw some leading qualities in him otherwise I dont think aussie selectors would choose him(because that is Australia not BCCI where players were choosed according to region)

By telling "EVEN SEHWAG OR DRAVID OR TENDULKAR"... u r demeaning their calibre...they are also gr8...India have won in home because of poor umpiring decisions and crowd support and not because of bad aussie team

yes oz win series at home because of good umpiring and gentle/sport loving crowd.
dont even compare dhoni and ponting...if ponting is micheal jackson..then dhoni is himesh reshmmiya..dhoni sucks big time with his poor speaking skills...and always praises himself for all correct decision...
A INDIAN CAPTIAN has never had a fairy tale end to his carrer...and that will happen to dhoni as well....pointing rocks
