As usual premature celebrations. Rankings will be declared only at the end of the series by ICC.

hey u ignorant...kindly note that rankings in odi's are declared after each odi is over between any of the member teams....it's the test rankings in which they declare it after series....so no premature celebrations..india are officially no. 1 currently...though it remains to be seen how long they can maintain it...

by M Alem on Sep 12, 2009 05:20 AM

India has done all the right things since those little monkeys from Bangladesh humiliated us in a game that was fixed by bookies. India will reign for the foreseeable future.

FOOTBALL NEEDS TO BE PATRONISED AS WELL
by thewalk on Sep 12, 2009 05:13 AM  | Hide replies

cricket is there
in tennis we have 3-4 world beaters now
in boxing we have 2-3 promising talents
hockey blows hot and cold
an f1 race is abt to be launched in India soon
we have had geet sethi in billiards , advani and few others are catching up fast
vishwanathan anand is of course the world champion in chess

but what about Football the no 1 game in the wold
we are stuttering at 156 in fifa world rankings
the last and only time India played in a soccer world cup was in 1938 and that too our players couldnt progress further becasue they had no shoes
high time Football is given preference even we could be world beaters

by sameer bhogwat on Sep 12, 2009 02:04 AM
My apologies if this post is irritating readers, But If media including rediff doesnt post an article on it AT ALL, where do I post this.

Anyone who thinks I am being unreasonable, should watch that video. Then lets see if you think sucha news item should be suppressed.

BTW, the local reporters that shot this video HAVE BEEN ARRESTED.
Imagine how television media would have reacted if this had happenned in a non-Kangress ruled state.

Are we supposed to know only those things that KangressiMedia will allow us to know?
Isnt internet supposed to be the medium that cant be easily controlled by a totalitarian corrupt government?

FOR 1 FULL WEEK 4 MAJOR TOWNS IN MAHARASHTRA ARE UNDER CURFEW (MIRAJ, KOLHAPUR, ICHALKARANJI, SANGLI), YET NOBODY IN THE COUNTRY KNOWS ABOUT IT

If police is going to be MUTE SPECTATORS while extremists plant PAK FLAGS on police jeeps (see video on link given above), it goes to show WHAT IS THE MORALE OF POLICE in Kangress ruled states is.
After all they dont want to risk their careers by taking action. Then who will maintain law & order??

INDIA IS SLOWLY BECOMING KANGRESS-OWNED PRIVATE COMPANY & EVEN EDUCATED INDIANS DONT SEEM 2 CARE.

If you do care, find email addr of editors of NDTV, CNN-IBN, AAJ-Tak, Star News, ZEE News & ask them why they are not giving coverage to this news item.
If they ignore you, please STOP WATCHING THESE BIASED SOLD-OUT MEDIA CHANNELS. LET THEIR TRP RATING FALL so they know that we cant be taken 4granted

Lets celebrate !!!!
by Rahul on Sep 12, 2009 01:40 AM  | Hide replies

Lets now celebrate for conquering the world!! Its popular in just 7-8 countries. Except in some 2-3 third world countries, cricket takes backseat in the remaining 4-5 developed countries. I dont say we have to play a sport recognised by developed countries. But, at least let us not go gaga over some sport hardly known in the rest of the world. And how can we have a Cricket World Cup when, forget abt the world, people of some these 7-8 countries dont give a damn!! I find it so funny that we include or rather compel countries like Canada, Netherlands to make it look like a World Cup, when hardly 10-15 NRIs play cricket in these countries. Can anything be more farcial than this? We can only be competitive when we face the world, and not by celebrating Worlds Cups, Aisa Cups, Africa Cups etc played amongst these 7-8 countries.

If India does not do well in any sport, or comes in second or third or last, her harshest crtics have a field day lampooning the system or the players. If it does well and gains the number one spot even for a brief period, there are critics waiting to bash up her achievements. Come on, people! Will you ever be happy?

can u tell me why in America they play their games (football, bastket ball, baseball) within their country teams and Canada and why they call the winner as world champion??

Just don't think cricket is just 7-8 countries, check the population of these cricket playing nations.

Rahul, as far as ur `developed country' tag goes, u believe that england and australia are underdevoloped countries? It is the quality of the game and the quality of the sportsperson who play the game which is important and not the number of countries which play it! Do believe that guys like sachin are ordinary guys who don't deserve the grt status? Again, if cricket is played in limited number of countries, it is not india's fault. We have definitely played very well in the past 2 years or so and fully deserve the number 1 status. For a change learn to appreciate the success of cricketers who are also indians rather than jealous of them!

Rama, if u read my msg you would know when i referred to 3-4 developed countries, i meant England, Australia and New Zealand. When World Cup was played in England last time, you would hv seen the response of youngsters there. It went unnoticed amongsts the locals

Cricket is still better..look at the baseball. In USA they say it is a world series whereas they play within the league only. Cricket is playing in 7-8 countries and baseball mostly in USA and still they are crazy abt they boring game. After T20 I think cricket is far better game than baseball and we should proud that India is number 1.

India's performance has not been very consistent in the recent past. God knows how long we can sustain ourself in #1 spot. South Africans are only one point short.
