Sachin V/S Ricky Ponting have always evoked strong response from bloggers. Just a quick pick from Cricinfo - batting stats for Tendulkar and Ponting for the period 1999-2009 and for Tendulkar for the period 1989-1999. Following results are obtained For the period 1999-2009 Ricky Ponting - Tests: 108 Runs: 9684 Avg: 59.41 100's: 34 Sachin Tendulkar - Tests: 88 Runs: 7161 Avg: 53.04 100's: 21 For the period 1995-1999 Ricky Ponting - Tests: 29 Runs: 1661 Avg: 40.51 100's: 4 For the period 1989 - 1999 Sachin Tendulkar - Tests: 71 Runs: 5612 Avg: 56.68 100's: 21 For me it reflects primarily two things: 1) Sachin was and still India's best batsman. We can't hope to have a better batsman in Indian team except him
2) Ricky Ponting has given a serious challenge to Tendulkar in the last decade, so all those claiming to have cricketing knowledge must also learn to respect Ricky Ponting's batsmanship over the years.

no...Rahul Dravid is still india's best player....better than sachin interms of playing for the team needs, responsibility and performance ...whenever the team in trouble team management approaches to dravid to play at a crucial position and he does that with admirable determination....sachin is not flexible in his approach...that differentiates betwwen a good and a great player..

agreed, thats the reason when there are 150 runs required in 85 balls, dravid still hits singles ,cant hiot a boundary, bullshit, south indian ppl wont change heir bullshit attitude towards dravid n all.
