Lack of quality fast bowlers
by seejo paul on Oct 25, 2009 02:22 AM  | Hide replies

India's main problem is that we dont have good fast bowlers. Zaheer is good. But he is not available. Munaf is a better prospect. But I wonder he failed to be a consistent member in Indian team. Sometimes he was removed without much reasons, despite not so bad performances. Praveen is good but if the conditions are bowler friendly. In Australia he was pretty successful bcoz he was a surprise package for Aussies in the finals. But now that is not the case. In the present conditions I think Nehra and Munaf should be in the team. The third seamer could have been Sreesanth if he was selected. I know many will disagree bcoz many doesnt like him. But the truth is he is one of the rare bowlers in India who can bowl consistently at more than 140kms. Even I also agree that has not got a good temparament. But I guess like Aussies handled Shane Warne, who was also a cricketer with not so good habits, we should handle him. In Aussies, coach was given special assignment to take care of his mental fitness. Wat is important is India should have good fast bowlers. Our like or dislike doesnt matter. We shud c whether county cricket has done any good for him. He was in pretty good form there. If Ishant was in good form then he could have been the first choice. But I dont know why like many of his predecessors he also cut short his pace quite notably. He is not the same, we saw in Australia.

dear frnd, the problem is not only the bowling but also our middle order.some people dont want "the wall".Am sure if dravid was there India is now leading the series 1-0.The point of bowling also very important,i dont think so India have the right bowlers to became the no 1 team in the world, thats true also.we need aggressive bowlers like sresanth

Agree with your choices and Sreeshant makes a good case. Munaf has done well, 'cause his time in the wilderness has served him well!

Why can't we have someone like VVS Laxman bat at no. 3 in ODIs, who has played some outstanding cricket against Australia ( 6 out of his 12 hundreds in Tests is against Aus ).

That is a very good choice. To select LAxman, who the aussies just cant get out, would have been very good choice.

That requires out of the box thinking. The selection committee headed by Cheeka is not doing any of that!

Dhoni is a bum that doesnt have a clue how to select a good team. Looks the the way he sent that Raina guy to bat at #3 against the crucuail England match in the Twenty Twenty worldcup. Anyone with some common sense would have avoided the step, as you could see the english bowlers were asking the batsmen to cut and pull. This Raina can do neither. Yet. Dhoni and Mr. Coach sent in this waste of a player to bat at crucial #3.

The current captain and coach needs to go plus sacking of this selection committee will bring some life into the proceedings!

Look at the Aussies. They are already looking ahead to the worldcup. BCCI and the bums are probably more worried about the next season of IPL.

The thinking is he cannot field and he is aged. Why Laxman...Even Dravid is not in the team!

Aged. What does that mean? Is Sachin Tendulkar Aged? Are you aged? Get a life. The bums at BCCI don't have a clue what is next?

Have you looked at the recent number of catches dropped by Vurat Kholi, Yusuf Pathan and the way they cant even collect or throw the ball? Are they aged, too?

Why don't we have a top-quality batsman like VVS Laxman at no. 3 who has 6 hundreds ( Tests ) against Australia ? VVS is one who has consistently done well against Australia . He has played some outstanding cricket against top rated australian bowlers Warne , Lee & Mc.Grath.

And why can't we have M.S. Gony in the bowling line-up ? He may be a good find for Team India in International Cricket

Agree that Laxman is a good choice. But, if you carry him, you need to carry him thru. the world cup. Otherwise, it would be an inconsistant policy.

If they can exclude quality players like Laxman and Dravid because of their age, then the indian team should have 11 bums that are 20-25 years old that cannot bat cannot field and cannot bowl. My guess is we are getting closer to that with the selection of Suresh Raina, Virat Kholi and Yusuf Pathan. Just eight more to go.
