You just cant give the GOD of cricket out and get away with it
by Raman Shiva on Oct 24, 2009 01:21 AM

Harper, better Apologize or else u will be called a racist Aussie who gave sachin wrongly out, whether he is out or not u just cant give him out and get away with it,Gavaskar was right, the stump was six inches short cause for sachin he is willing to change the rules, when sachin couldnt score in the leg side when Ashley giles bowled there Gavaskar said it was negative bowling whereas the same match sehwag smashed giles when he bowled leg side..
when Mike denness caught sachin red handed tampering with the ball they removed him,why cause u cant mess with the god of cricket.who cares about the rules?

Harper was wrong
by Reza Arif on Oct 23, 2009 03:56 PM

Nobody seems to consider the fact that there is a difference between .. not offering a stroke and taking evasive action ..

Benefit of doubt is not thr when batsman does not play at the ball, but while taking evasive action, benefit of doubt should be given to the batsman .. especially as there was a bit of doubt whether the ball would have hit the stumps .. some say it mite hv hit the bails... these marginal decisions should be ruled in favor of the batsman!!!

Anyways .. no point crying about spilt milk ..

Harper was right..
by Indian Guru on Oct 23, 2009 01:02 PM

They was a hue and cry made about the decision made by harper, but my take on it, Sachin was out.

The ball did not rise as expected by Sachin, and Sachin was crouched too low and was below the stumps.

Glenn Mcgrath Precision bowling did the rest, that piegion is never off target.

Bizarre dismissal but corret decision
by Sameer Bhagwat on Oct 22, 2009 11:04 PM

I remember that dismissal. Sachin ducked expecting the ball to bounce. Instead, it stayed low and hit him on the shoulder when he was in a crouching position. If the ball hadn't hit him it would have hit the stumps. It is not Sachin's fault that the ball stayed low, but he was out nevertheless. Some times on pitches with uneven bounce the ball just scoots through and hits batsmen below the knee roll. Sachin's dismissal was a similar situation except it happened in a crouching position.

Its not about the job; its your people skills
by Madhyam Dhwani on Oct 22, 2009 12:32 AM

Simon Touffel and Aleem Daar are technically superior. But what makes the great umpires is not their technical skills, quick and solid observation or correctness.

What makes them great are humane qualities. They are good with people and are known to appologize to players after the game if they are wrong.

They are professional yet Humane. They have perspective.

Billy Bowden is also known to have made mistakes but he refers to the third umpire when in doubt. Even he has a good rapport with players.

Daryl Harper is just not good we people and his Holier than thou attitude DOES NOT HELP!!!

Steve Bucknor is disliked because he makes too many mistakes. He was a good umpire but refuses to admit his poor sight and short comings.

Which game is that. Only winning game against oz where Kartik played was in Mumbai. He was out in both the innings quite quickly. May be you are confusing with someone else or just making it up to strengthen a point.

obviously he is just a normal fan and not the blind eyed worshipper like the way your worship AUssies.

I wish Aussie rowdies beat you up and break your bones instead of beating those poor Indian students on their land..

Yes I distinctly remember that. Murali Kartik even admitted when asked by Rameez Raja.

Guess what; Murali Karthik was dropped after the Man of the Match.

We can give a million chances to Kambli, Vengsarkar, Sourav Gangooly, RP Singh, Rathore, Ashish Kapoor but to a south Indian forget about it.

WV Raman, Sadagopan Ramesh, Murali Karthik and the list will continue.

When a North Indian is BCCI chief, he prefers north Indian. When a South Indian(Srikkanth) is BCCI Chief, he is fair.

Sachin was Out.
by A Singh on Oct 21, 2009 09:03 PM  | Hide replies

Look at the video again. The ball would have hit the top of middle stump.
Of course Harper could easily have ruled in batsman's favour, but he seemed to have no doubt.
Bill Lawry called it a courageous decision.

Agree. I think, Sachin not offering a shot didn't work in his favor. It virtually nuetralizes benifit of doubt. Also Sachin being short doesn't help matters

Itis said making a mistake by itself is not a crime but not accepting a mistake is a crime .So Darrel everyone to his view .all the best .The fact is when a ball is likely to hit the stumps and if it is piched in line - the ball when hits a part of the body other than the gloves an umpire can give LBW .The question is what are the chances the ball would have hit the stups .Many feel NIL.

Looking at the replays I felt ball was going to clip the bails if not middle stump. Tendulkar was out. See the replay. Ball has started dipping. Tendulkar was not offering a stroke, which means benifit of doubt(if any) doesn't go to him
