India should win convincingly
by sandeep kumar on Oct 20, 2009 10:49 PM  | Hide replies

Aus beat a weak England 6-1, and then had to beat Eng and NZ to win Champs trophy. They never had to play India. India always wins series between these two, and I expect 5-2 for India
Hoo Haa India..AAya India! COme on guys..Show that we are the best.

How about blaming the sight screen and the crowd of "third world countries" and claiming grounded catches and trying to influence the umpires ? wait and see raj arora, by the time the series is over, Ponting will be cribbing again about why his team is losing.

If numbers are not the true story, what is? Not sure what you mean there...

Rely on Rain??? There were days it worked for them too, for example, the recent test in Australia where they were saved on the last day because of rain? It goes both ways sir...

Skill? Can you please specify who has more skill than a Tendulkar, a Sehwag and a Yuvraj?

Hard work? This I agree with you! Indian bowlers are weak and have always been... with the exception of Kapil Dev, there has not been one single consistent hard working skillful Indian bowler who could floor the batsmen... and yes that is hard work but even more than hard work, it also calls for an attitude and some skill which Indian bowlers lack.

So, without any doubt, the Indian team is the best in the world when you look at it from a batsman's perspective and without any doubt, the Indian team is in the bottom four when it comes to the bowling department.

Bottomline - India is a great batting team and on their day, they can eat the opponents out... but since their bowling is weak, they can get beaten too! So, I hope people stop licking up the Aussies u know where and stand up to start respecting our team.

No doubts india are a strong batting side. what about bowling and fielding.
Without bowling and fielding you can win matches, even if you put 300 in every match

Please tell us whether the discussion was about the current Indian and Australian team or on the Indian and Australian team of the past ?

No one is comparing India with the great Australian team from 1999 till 2006. We are talking about the present scenario, and how India is at present a better ODI unit that Australia..

Indian team for one dayers against Aussies
by Rajendrakumar Bowrie on Oct 20, 2009 10:12 PM  | Hide replies

With Sehwag and Gambir being ideal opening pair, what tendulkar is going to do, breaking the Sehwag-Gambir pair. The 37 years plus star if at all required should be sent at No.3 or 4. Otherwise his presence will only harm the team. He is past his best. If Ganguly and Dravid can be dropped for filmsy reasons of age, then Tendulkar too should be asked to join GDanguly and Dravid.

Here are the batting averages and strike rates of Sehwag, Gambhir and Tendulkar in ODI cricket this year -

Sehwag: Average - 58.50, SR - 142.24

Gambhir: Average - 38.07, SR - 95.55

Sachin: Average - 53.44, SR - 96.78

Did I hear anyone asking Gambhir to partner Sewhwag as opener instead of Tendulkar ??

please dont say that in any way gambhir or even at the moment are palying better than sachin, this is the irony of india cricket, who dont have tendulkar know his worth n we cannot even bear a couple of his bad matches. We forget that the last two series we have won .i.e. in Australia & Sri Lanka was because of his genius. Otherwise Sehwag & Gambhir inspite of playing well in league matches could'nt do anything in the finals. We need to respect these great players otherwise it not far that indian cricket will again enter its old days where a win was so rare that even defeating bangladesh made us proud. I dont not why sachin has to prove himself in every match when players like Sehwag, gambhir, yuvraj are not blamed for their poor forms after failing in numerous matches. I am sure if Sachin fails in a couple of matches people awaiting those failures would open their mouths wide and start criticizing. Even today in present forms nobody can say that there is anybody who can replace Sachin, not even from the existing international side.

I agree with Sudarshan. I too believe that India will win the series, most probably 5-2. Viru and Yuvi are back! Although I would have liked to see Yusuf Pathan and also Dravid somehow squeeze their way into the team. Also, an allrounder like Irfan Pathan should be given another chance, while resting Ishant Sharma. Clearly, Ishant needs to sort out some things in his bowling..

yah irfan is clearly a better fast bowler..I saw one match in which dhoni was standing up on the wickets and he was was bowling 115 km/hr which I think is fastest bowling ever done by an Indian...I watched women cricket one time there fastest bowler is also close to that..so irfan shud definetly play..Ishant needs to switch to spin bowling cuz he looks like one..he can be a good underarmer..Go Irfan!!

Well, nice parody.. But, on a more serious note, I really think Irfan Pathan should be given another chance. Here's why... you ask any cricketer and they will tell you that in every cricketer's career, there is a phase where, after 1-2 years, the opposition gets used to your batting/bowling and figure you out. This is a learning process and lot of Indian bowlers in particular have gone through this... remember Agarkar after taking 50 ODI wkts in 23 matches? Same with Mohanty, Harbhajan, Prasad, RP Singh, Munaf etc.. then they go back to domestic work, sort things out, and come back fresher... Ishant is going through this phase.. and just an FYI... Irfan Pathan has bowled occasionally at 140kmph , although he is more comfortable as a seamer. His pace dropped considerably when his confidence dipped, just like what Ishant is experiencing now. But, overall, both Pathans are good allrounders, and need to be groomed.. along with Jadeja as they could potentially be very good ODI allrounders..
