I agree with sunny. Look at all no. 7 and 8's in the world cricket. Haddin, Mitchell Jhonson, Jacob Oram, Albie Morkel, and the list goes on. These are Gladiators in their own sense. However the most interesting part is that it is a big gamble that the team takes after no 5 is out. Depending on the situation. These guys have been groomed or tailor made for these Kind of situation given confidence that their place is secured. You cannot expect a century out of these blokes as they have to be most selfless in the team batting line up. However these guys are always being supported and judged with their overall skills in fielding, bowling, and batting aggressively is an added advantage. In Yousuf and Irfan's case, I think They never were given that Sense of security over their place in the team. Imagine if Yousuf comes in at 7 and Irfan at 8 where will you get that sort of understanding between the wickets as they both are world class in their own and can contribute to the teams best in all field. I belive that We almost missed a plot over here and our batting and bowling will be toothless and ridiculous without Yousuf and Irfan. Another thing one wonders is : yousuf has hardly sent up the order to prove his true colours. That privilage goes to Mr. Dhoni and his favourites... Another major factor is of a presence of a strong Figure in the team who has got a deadly reputation in the game. Yousuf on no.7 and Irfan on no 8 ticks all the boxes of a champion tail line up....

Yousuf omission - correctly done

Irfan pathan is reliable and good batsman than yousuf. Team can depend on Irfan for quick 20 - 30 runs in the end overs.

Just a simple and quick solution for the team

Yes.. well said… Yusuf and Irfan did not get enough chance after giving them in no7 and 8 position and still they won the matches for us. Its not fair if not giving chance in upper order and judge a person when its need quick runs. If you take an example Dhoni promotes himself at no 3 or 4 and failed many times … but still comes in upper order and try sticking there for runs at a strike rate of 20 or 30 ….. this can be done both Pathan brothers easily and both are well ahead with the abilities than Dhoni…..

So its more over how the captain use the players and Dhoni never seen promotes any of these guys ….we will have to kick Dhoni out then all team India will get stable..

Exactly … Dhoni not know how to use utility players ….. and he think himself as a utility player and try covering no 3… and greatest joke is trying bowling as well , because he is worried about the krathik’s good form which will lead wicket keeper place from him … so something Dhoni has to do now …. As a part of captaincy which any how very poor now.

T-20 should not be a criteria for ODI team selection....

Yousuf was never a better choice than Irfan in ODI. But I also feel Yousuf didn't get enough opportunity, specially in higher in the batting order.

It is totally the team work that works for Trinidad & Tobago team in CLT20 Cup. Ganga has been very inspiring. The youngsters are flamboyant. It is now proved that even without heavy investment on it a team from a poor nation can rout other teams easily. IPL teams bit dust as for them money was above cricket!

For the first time I hear Gavaskar talking silly. Does India is really that poor that it can not find a good player in place of Yusuf? This Pathan has no quality in batsmanship. He has no match temperament. Selectors have given many opportunities which he could not prove. Gavaskar should have supported Rohit Sharma than Yusuf Pathan. Rohit also failed several times but his techniques are far better than Pathan's. We should try new youngsters in this position which is very important for India to keep its higher position in international cricket

No Indian bowler is bowling over 140??
by Crickbufff on Oct 20, 2009 07:06 AM  | Hide replies

Look at the T&T bowlers!!
If Ishanth or any other upcoming fast bowler bowls at 140 it will make a difference.
We need a good bowling coach like Akram, Waqar, Walsh or Ambrose!! Prasad has done his bit. Its time for bye bye!!

Agreed, but i think is with the bowlers. Oncve our `fast bowlers' establish themselves in the team, they slow down their pace to prolong their career which is the main problem. We need a pool of real quick bowlers which would ensure that no one takes their place for granted!

Bowling and fielding coach
by Crickbufff on Oct 20, 2009 07:04 AM

I think Venkatesh Prasad and Robin Singh have done their bit.
A new thinking is certainly needed.
Bring in Wasim Akram/Waqar/Ambrose/Walsh as bowling coach for this Indian team and Jonty Rhodes as fielding coach!!
Besides Jonty and Gary gel well.
