Ganguly is a burning example of how regionalism can ruin such a good cricketer

Ho ... Ho...Ho...Did Ganguly took us to world cup finals? 2003 World Cup

Against major oppositions where opening partnership was spoiled by Ganguly

8 v New Zealand at Paarl
9 v Aus at Centurion
19 v Eng at Durban
0 v Pak at
48 v Srilanka at Johannesburg
3 v NZ at Centurion
24 v Aus at Johannesburg

And now look Tiger against minnows

112 not out v Nam at Pietermaritzburg
107 not out v Ken at Cape Town
111 not out v Ken at Durban
24 v Zim at Harare

Not out against minnows to swell averages but mediocre batting performance. Now go and find out why we went to Finals who scored there? Keniya went to semis as England and New Zealand surrendered matches and points as protest against Zimbabwe regime for their safety. And those were supposed to be played there in Zimbabwe.

and as England and New Zealand surrendered their matches in protest against Zim regime Kenya came to semis. Ganguly is worser than rookies of 20-20 like Sharma Yusuf Uthappa and Gambhir all capable of replacing him in ODI

good cricketer?? ganguly is a legend. without his presence india would not have ever dreamt of becoming no 1. the fruits which dhoni and earlier dravid and kumble enjoyed as being the captain of no. 1 team, the seed was sown by ganguly.
history knows every legend has been subject to criticism by some non- knowledgable few but each time they have come out victorious.

sachin, dravid have scored tons of runs only because they were secured under ganguly's captaincy. people remember ganguly scored 7000 test runs but actually it should be 17000 runs when you take into account teh pressure of indian team captaincy. sachin was too buys making records at the same time and did not have to take the burden. anyways we all know how sachin and dravid are as captains. lol.

Some facts --- Was it a great innings?

Ganguly scoring 144 against Australia to save match.
Fact is bowlers were Gillespie MacGill ,bracken, Waugh ,Katich
No Macgrath Lee or Warne.

1 st day ----- Match started late due to rain on ended early bad light. Two rain interruptions in between
2 nd day ------ Match started late due to bad weather on ended early bad light. Good interruptions in between.
3 rd day ------ half an hour play due to bad light and rain
4 th day ------ play ended early Ganguly scored century at tea in conditions it was clear can not be played for result.
5 th day ----- play started late ended as draw with mutual consent of captains.

How this can be match saving innings when everybody knew that there wont be result. Indian first inning ended on fifth day

ndians solo fighters for team scoring tons while loosing in Test cricket

India lost 78 tests since 1996
Sachin 9 tons solo fights for team Aus 4 SA 2 Eng Pak NZ one each
Dravid 1 tons solo fights against Zim one
Laxman 2 tons solo fights against Aus two
Sehwag 3 tons solo fights against Aus Pak SA one each
and the last Saurav Big Zero tons contributed no solo fight.

These are either solo or sizable resistances while loosing others have not contrubeted enough so we lost. He scores when others soften balling by their pounding. Then the vulture comes to grab the kill

Super Ganguly!
by Rahul Ponting on Oct 19, 2009 12:22 PM

Scored a quick half century. This man can really bat well. I don't know why people say he's not good. I think he's one of the best cricketers to play domestic cricket in India. He may be a bunny playing against quality pace bowling, but he sure can score tons of runs against bowlers bowling around 115km/hr. It's sad that he is not considered to be a great batsman just because he became a failure for Team India. Now see he's doing great where he belongs, the domestic circuit. Ganguly ki jai ho!

by Crickbufff on Oct 19, 2009 10:50 AM  | Hide replies

to changing needs! He was self-obsessed with captaincy and with his place in the team.
He has outlived his time.
As for Dravid and Tendulkar - they have always tailored their game to the needs of the team. I think they merit a place for the WC in India.
It might be shocking but I would also like to see Laxman in the WC 15, drop Bhajji, bring in Ojha and Misra. So my team for WC would be:
My 15-member team for the World Cup
1) Sehwag
2) Tendulkar
3) Dravid
4) Raina
5) LAXMAN (yes yes yes!!) or Manish Pandey
6) Yuvraj
7) Dhoni
8) Zaheer Khan
9) Ishanth Sharma
10) Amit Mishra
11) Ojha
12) RP Singh
13) Piyush Chawla
14) Abhishek Nayar

talk some sense and logic...the selectors have not changed between CT and today but dravid was selected and now dropped again...so what has this got to do with regionalism. It's sad that educated people like you smell of regionalism everywhere.
BTW for people like you, there's hardly any player from the south selected for the series against Aus. For an Indian fan it doesn't matter who plays as long as the team plays hard and wins consistently.

No, this is wrong. Dravid earned place solely on his good show in IPL-2 & his vast experience in International cricket. He proved it by his good performance in Compaque cup & champions trophy. Also he is far more fit player than Ganguly.

I wouldn't wish to get into a debate into who is better between dravid or ganguly, but the fact remains that ganguly is a fighter and is even now much better than most of the youngsters we have. Yes, he was compelled to leave due to the intense dislike from former cricketers.
