It is sad that he died a day before his latest work was to be published. Just as the title of his book, his days were well spent. His articles on cricket in various newspapers and magazines clearly showed his class as a journalist and stood apart. None of the next generation of journalists can be compared with him.
I have grown upp reading Rajan bala write in Deccan Herald. It was the time of the likes of Pataudi and Kalicharan when I started reading him although not regularly.
Later when I grew up and had to read others both out of choice and compulsion, I could immediately notice the difference in their writing styles and quality.
Rajan Bala's articles are like good strong coffee on a winter cold morning that lingers on and on.
siddhu once described his downfall n rise in ind ckt by quoting articles of rajan bala who earlier described siddhu as strokeless wonder in 1984(!), but the same writer praising him for his sixers in 1987 reliance wc.
Its a great loss to cricket lovers, especially the Hindu cricket column readers. Easy language and crisp english and enjoyable reading cricket column in Hindu. Whenever Hindu papers is opened the eye will go automatically to last but one page to see cricket column only. Really great loss to cricekt lovers.
