same format but double the matches
by Ravi Ledalla on Oct 06, 2009 08:51 AM

Yes, The world cup should be with the 8 nations divided into two groups like the Champions Trophy but each team should play the others twice in the round-robin league. This way teams will have a chance to fight back even if they loose one game due to a bad day or weather etc... This is how the initial World Cups used to be (1975, 1979, 1983 & 1987). This format will make the teams to be more consistent and not depend on one individual brilliance in one game.

Sounds Great! Let each team play other twice
by Guest on Oct 05, 2009 12:37 PM

Its sounds very interesting format as all the best teams will be competing. May be it will be a good idea for each team to play the other twice, that will also give good team a chance if they have couple of off days

WORLD CUP AND EIGHT TEAMS
by Rajesh Vyas on Oct 05, 2009 12:16 PM  | Hide replies

This is a perfect recommendation. Let there be real good matches and not opportunities for players to improve their batting and bowling averages. Also, Round Robin tournamnets amongst the eight team would restore interest in ODIs.

World Cup format
by Ravindra R. Patil on Oct 05, 2009 12:15 PM

Yes, we do agree! But, we have seen many rocks and shocks in world cups like in 1996-Kenya bt WI. Also in 1999 Bangladesh & Zimbabwe beating Pakistan and India resp. So, for this we need to have only 2 groups like the one in 1996. Not more than 2 groups and top four teams should have quarter finals and then semis.... I think this sounds better.

All eight teams should play each other and then decide the semi final slection .The current format is too chancy and rain hit match can change the scenariobadly at times . Ofocurse in the current format the useless team got elimated and did not matter much becuase of rain.

Teams like Bangadesh / Canada / Bermuda are rubbish and time waste...Look at Bangadesh they still dont know how to play cricket....All these minnows shd be eliminated...only top 8 teams like what happened in 2009 Champions Trophy..

Totally agreee. That way the 1992 World Cup format was a very good one with each team playing each other once and only the top 9 teams participating.

what rubbish if you do not give them the chance how will they improve it may be good for viewing but to sustain the globalisation of Cricket we should encourage the minnows also.

Hmmm good argument ... but if the intention is to promote cricket then why ICC does not make Australia/SA/India play Canada/Bermuda regularly. Why the minnows resurface in world cup only?
