Consolidation after the Champions trophy
by Nikhil Shah on Oct 05, 2009 02:12 AM

With the conclusion of the recent ODI matches we have several players in our midst who are overated. Rohit Sharma was averaging a paltry 24 runs per match and with the problems with short pitch bowling the axe fell on him after the . We will see a similar outcome with RP Singh and Ishant Sharma. Their ODI economy rates are as high as 5.42 and 5.66 respectively and the introduction of batting powerplays they are exposed much more. In similar situations, Nehra, Praveen, Zaheer and Munaf have maintained their averages below 4.8 per over. For 50 ODI overs that is about 30-40 runs extra and has a bigger impact on the game when India chases 300 .

Even Zaheer thought Nehra/Ishant was a good pair. The ODI bowling lineup will consolidate after this loss and dropping RP and Ishant was not justified after the Sri-Lanka ODI win in the Compaq Cup which India won because of Sachin's hundred.

Let us look at the ODI only economy rates of the following bowlers:

Sreesanth 59 wkts @31.45 E/R=5.78
Ishant 46 wkts @31.40 E/R=5.67
RP Singh 65 wkts @33.86 E/R=5.42
Irfan Pathan 152 wkts @29.91 E/R=5.25
Agarkar 288 wkts @27.85 E/R=5.07

Nehra 110 wkts @29.33 E/R=4.84
Zaheer 225 wkts @29.18 E/R=4.86
Praveen 33 wkts @30.21 E/R=4.83
Munaf Patel 46 wkts @31.82 E/R=4.81

It may be worthwhile to bring back Munaf and when Zaheer is back from injury we will have a better bowling lineup to at least prevent a 300 run chase.

Grow Up Mr Dhoni!

Every time India Has lost, Our Mr. Captain has straight away taken names to blame. NEVER BEFORE I HAVE SEEN THIS IN CRICKET.Even the best of the captains never blamed individuals for their bad Performance. If someone is underperforming today, then he will be automatically left out. Well in the above statement from Dhoni, I was cruiously looking for one name : "R P Singh" Dhoni's Boyfriend cum Partner cum best buddy. He is totally left out of the bad bowling saga. Everyone knows their relationship and our media is too weak to bring that up. Praising Nehra and Praveen Kumar is too early, they did well against whom? West Indies C team. There Was No Gayle or Chandrapaul to test the bowling strength. Even Goa's Ranji team is better than W Indies. Why there is no mention of Ishant Sharma. Because these guys are given Permanant Protection/Berth by Mr. Dhoni and our selectors. One needs balls to drop either of those big names who are not performing consistantly. Just recent examples are: Andrew Symonds, World class Player dropped for his off field stories. Ricky Ponting dropped for 4 Odays after AShes Debacle, Brett lee, Shoaib Akhtar, Flintoff, Kevin Peterson, Hershell gibbs and more they all are Big names in today's game. However we all know that they have been left out at times and shown their right place. Do you think We are capable of doing so????? Not untill Dhobi is there. Time to Bring back IRFAN< SREESANTH, Rohit, And others and then see the difference..... Huh!

Agreed RP and Ishant should be thrown out because they are hardly consistent. Same applies to Yousuf Pathan who is riding on last year's IPL performance. If Irfan gets back to his form, he could be an all rounder, a bowler who could bat. Rohit Sharma is not consistent either.

I think India will be a better team if Sehwag, Yuvi and Zaheer come back to the side. Sehwag and Yuvi are batters who can also bowl. Our problems will be solved.

Yes indeed Mr. Dohni is running out of luck THERE IS SAYING EVERY DAY IS NOT SUNDAY, so, Mr. Captain should realise his own mistakes rather blaming the part of the team he is becoming ego to his nature and should go back to original one

My Dear Indians...

My Fellow country men and women.....Its still early years as a captain for M.S......critics will always point out the faintest mistake...let us not accuse M.S of loosing the match for India....Its the bowlers who let India Down....Although Ashish Nehra bowled well...have u ever see him chasing the ball in a boundary line??He literally runs like an injured dog who was run over by a motorcycle in one of his hind legs....he is a total disappointment in the fielding 11,same is the case with some of the youngsters who are taking this game so lightly,Agree that batting was below average,But also see how SRT and Dravid have batted through the series...Raina also tried his best,Yusuf was the only failure in the order who dint click in the match Against Pakistan,My sincere request is stop blaming the captain and see the team composure...We dint have the balance in the team,A captain or a coach can only do so much, but its left to the individuals to perform,Personally i think we should experiment like how Pakistan is doing with their bowling attack, pick a handful of youngsters who can bowl fast and run well in the outfield and are not afraid to loose a tooth or 2 trying to stop the ball in the boundary,we may get our star lineup back, but these are just my thoughts.Conclusion....We had a weak team for the event and I don't blame M.S for our early departure from this Tournament....Jai Hind...Jai Bharat...

"We had a weak team for the event and I don't blame M.S"

What does that mean? If you consider that a weak team then what made it weak? I blame it on Dhoni. Dhoni used up the time out in the middle for his own batting practise, never let other youngsters get better at that. Yusuf was on red hot T20 strick and considerd as cleanest hitter at that time. In T20 WC, Yusuf was barely allowed to play 8-10 balls.. Why? Dhoni kept comming at one down and eating up the overs.

It went to the extent when the international cricket expert started commeting on this, and even Shastri had to ask Dhoni about team's one down strategy at the post match presentation.

How many matches India played in T20 world cup? MS came at 1st down and it was appreciated because India got a good start and didn't need to lose a wicket.

Guys...stop mocking your own countrymen.M.S can only say what has been told by the so called wise wigs of the BCCI..Am sure if he were to speak his mind he would blast every single one of the bad performers...Learn to support your team in ups and downs, like every Indian even i was disappointed..sorry devastated when Indian was out of the tour but for me as long as those Paks don't win the tournament am a happy Indian...what say guys?? Do u agree??

Dhonis comments make no sense
by Mature Stud on Oct 03, 2009 02:59 AM  | Hide replies

Dhoni has ruined the team to some extent. He was lucky to win few tournaments in the beginning, because the Tendulya & youngsters who came in the team were performing outstandingly.

Then Dhoni started assuming the Best Indian Batsman's role. In that process he started downgrading youngsters to the lower order and kept promoteing himself. Guess what, the same youngsters who helped India performed better, started failing. And all of sudden they became susceptible to the short pitch deliveries, something that never was a big deal before..

These talented youngsters need to be nurtured, and Mr. Dhoni just can't keep thinking of himself and his batting all the time..

Ever wonderd why Chennai never won IPL T20? Dhoni's batting and constant tinkering with the batting order. Period

Only way this can be fixed is Dhoni needs to come down the order and learn how to slog it over again, give more opportunties to yungsters..

The only Dhoni innings really worth praising are those against Pakistan, when he was new in the team.

Why he became defensive now? And to hide his lack of skill, he declared "I BECAME MATURE AND MORE PATIENCE NOW".

What a joke!!

If Dhoni is fit for batting then why is he unable to bat in chasing matches. He dont know how to play over front foot.
