Seam bowling in India -- Part I
by Nikhil Shah on Nov 29, 2009 08:45 PM

During the early years of Ganguly, he introduced a very significant strategy in the one-day game which raised the one-day standards in India, by separating one-day and Test batting. There was more emphasis on batting strike rates in the one-days and with the emergence of players like Sehwag, Yuvraj and now Raina and Dhoni --- this has added the extra dimension to the one-day game for India --- With the return and resurgence of Sreesanth, we now have a new understanding of our fast bowling strategy. At one time Sreesanth thought that he will never play for India, but this was on the basis of his one-day performance. Both Ishant and Sreesanth along with some power plays suffered from this situation.

This happens when we separate one-day bowling from Test match bowling which requires more pace and higher bowling strike rates. In one-day bowling, the economy rates played an important role, but with the decline in Ishant whose economy rate of 5.6 and Sreesanth's whose bowling one-day eco rate is also above 5.78 This has led us to a new understanding of our bowling resources. For one-days Zaheer has been supported by Nehra and Praveen who have better eco rate ---- and in Test matches Zaheer has support from Ishant, and now the resurgent Sreesanth who is pacy and has a better bowling strike rate.

Seam bowling In India -- Part 2
by Nikhil Shah on Nov 29, 2009 08:41 PM

Both Ishant and Sreesanth are quick, but not quick enough to make a serious dent in the one-day game like Brett Lee, who bowls around 149kph on Indian pitches. This enables Lee to slow down the scoring rate. In our case, Ishant and Sreesanth just have the right pace to be scored on in the one-day game but nothing like Lee who can slow down with wickets. Hence the solution for India is to go with Praveen and Nehra. Interestedly, all the seamers we have looked at in the past decade or so have struggled in the Test arena: Agarkar, RP Singh, and even Nehra and hence accuracy was simply not good enough to succeed in Tests, some pace was required as we can see in the case of Sreesanth and Ishant.

Thus the future Test bowling pair for India may be the Ishant-Sreesanth pair and this may not be the premier one-day pair of future since they have eco rates of 5.6 and 5.78 respectively. An adjustment may be required for us to look at a seam bowling pair in the sub-continent of the quality of Zaheer and Nehra. Both Zaheer and Nehra are close to 30 in age and maybe Zaheer can take a break in Test matches on the sub-continent and let Sreesanth and Ishant focus on being a pair. Another improvement in Sreesanth we saw was his freshness and this means that just like Nehra who quit for 1-2 years resting your body completely raises your level and intensity and burn out the bowlers can be another factor in poor performances from the current lot, namely Ishant.

One consolation for both Sreesan

LOL...ever since Sreesanth got these 6 wickets Alan Donals has surfaced across the internet giving interviews to anyone that cares to listen to him, about how much he guided Sreesanth and transformed him.

When Sree was down no one including Alan spoke for him. If anything Alan was busy criticizing and ridiculing Sree for his ethics and temperament.

Now Alan is quoted as wanting Gary Kirsten to get Alan employed by BCCI (fat check ofcourse) as a fast bowling advisor, because Alan says he 'polished n transformed' Sree into the bowler he is today!

Anyone remember Alan sledging Rahul Dravid after Rahul lifted him for a straight six over Alan's head. That same Alan was till a few days ago criticizing Sreesanth's aggression. Just in case you guys forgot, ICC penalized Dravid for giving it back to Alan Donald, but not to Alan donald for starting the sledging.

And the same Alan donald wants to criticize Sree when Sree is down, and wants to claim credit when Sree is up and running!

LOL...what ridiculous convoluted logic!
You mean everytime any players says anything to the media, can we not jump up and say 'Why didnt you say this earlier?'. Do you really think Sreesanth or any other player who is trying to make a comeback or get into the team should give a daily media bulletin about what is going on in his mind. For example, if Agarkar comes back and plays and says the same thing ('I didnt think I could play again') you will jump and say 'Why didnt you say this earlier'. Lol!

And I didnt know Sreesanth was in EXILE! was he? Well may be in your imaginary world! LOL!

(And I really dont know how admitting that he feared not getting another chance to play for his country, translates to 'glorifying himself'. Are you sure you are not smoking something as you write? Whatever it is, sure must do interesting things to the mind!)

Crazy..exoticbronze.You think a guy like Allan Donald needs to bask in the glory of Sreesanth? I also read Allan's comments about Sree and nowhere I felt that he was ridiculing Sree. On the contrary, just as Sree mentioned in the article,Allan pointed out his mistakes in bowling action and mentioned that Sree doesn't have much correction to do and one thing he needs to correct is his attitude.Isn't it true? Like last match, if Sree manages to control his temper and focus in all future matches, then he can achieve glory; else as Allan mentioned, he would repent about his career despite having rare talents like keeping a straight seem and natural away swinger.

Sorry, then you havent read the same article I did. Google up and find the article where this same Alan who had problems with Sree's attitude, speaks glowingly about Sree's 6 wkt haul, and in the same breath says he would like to get a job as a fast bowling advisor to the Indian team...but laments that his request is not being worked on by the BCCI as fast as he would love to!!!

In short, yes, now that Sreesanth has got the wickets, Alan wants to use that as a reference to milk the cash cow - BCCI!

so, to your comment..."You think a guy like Allan Donald needs to bask in the glory of Sreesanth?" - Well Alan Donald may have been great in his playing days, but you see, the past will not keep delivering milk and potatoes for free on his dining table! He, like every one, needs to keep the cash flow going, and which better cash cow than BCCI in the world of cricket!

You still didnt get the irony of a man who sledged viciously preaching temperament to Sreesanth. But such is the Indian mentality! When a white player screams at Indian player, we loser indians call it 'agressive attitude'. When Sreesanth or Ganguly do the same, our own loser indian media isthe first to criticize them for being 'indisciplined'. Remember the flak Ganguly got when he removed his shirt and waved it at Flintoff after defeating the English team, just to return Flintoff's favor. Well the Indian media took Ganguly for task for doing that, but the English media was okay about Flintoff!

THE ART OF FAST SWING BOWLING
by Ryan Christopher on Nov 26, 2009 11:35 PM  | Hide replies

SREE, YES THE COME BACK MAN, THE PHOENIX, HE TURN TO ASHES, ONLY TO EMERGE AS A TRUE HERO FROM HIS OWN ASHES, THAT IS WHAT MAKE HIM A WARRIOR, A CRUSADER, WITH AN ATTITUDE OF , SURVIVOR IS THE BEST, AND HE IS A SURVIVOR. NOW ABOUT HIS BOWLING, HE ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT SWING BOWLER, HE HAD GENUINE PACE, THE AERO DYNAMICS SAYS ONCE U PASSS THE MARK OF 137 KPH THERE IS LESS CHANCE OF GETTING SWING FROM THE BALL, BUT IT IS A MATTER OF WONDER, THAT EVEN CLOCKING OVER 140KPH CONTINUOUSLY AND MOSTLY, STIL SREE GETTING THE MAXIMUM OF SWING, IN MY UNDERSTANDING THERE ARE TWO MAIN REASON, ONE IS THT HIS POSITIONING OF THE SEAM, NO OTHER BOWLER IN THE WORLD TODAY, WHO CAN PLACE THE SEAM BETTER THAN SREE, SECOND REASON IS THE ABILITY TO USE THE LENGTH OF PITCH WELL, HE IS NOT AFRAID TO GIVE A WAY SOME RUNS AND NOT AFRAID TO PITCH THE BALL UPTO THE BATSMAN, BY DOING IT HE KEEPS THE BALL MORE IN THE AIR, THE MORE IN THE AIR, THE MORE THE CHANCE OF SWING, AND THE THIRD FACTOR IS THE FINISH OF THE BOWLING ARM, IN SREE IT IS PERFECT, THANKS FOR MR DENNIS LILLEE OF MRF, HE HAVE ONE OF THE MOST BEUTIFUL FOLLOW THROUGH. AND THE HELPING HAND OF GOD, ALL THE WICKETS HE TOOK, EITHER BOWLED , CAUGHT BEHIND OR CAUGHT AT SLIP, WHICH CLEARLY INDICATES, THE AMOUNT OF NIP, PACE AND SWING HE GETTING. AND HE ADDED THE OLD STYLED LEG CUTTERS( WHICH IS OLD FASHIONED ACCORDING TO THE NEW ERA OF FAST BOWLERS, AS IT IS THE MOST DIFFICULT DELIVERY U CAN EARN) THANKS TO SIR HADLEE FOR THAT. U DOING IT RIGHT SREE.

Mr Ryan has explained about why he ( Sree) is a once in a generation Swing and Seam bowler, not a Veggie Bowler. Now don't write Shakila, Lungi, appam etc etc. Try to respect real Indian Heros like Martyr Unnikrishnan, Sreesanth, PT Usha, Sashi Tharoor, Myself etc etc Losers got there Chapathis and Veggie Dhal Makhani

It is a matter of pride to go anywhere and earn an honest living instead of spitting paan on the roads and answering natures call on the streets like northies.

Mallus are industrious clean and civic minded...which is why Kerala is rated one of the 10 must see destinations in a human lifetime by National geographic!

Now ever wondered why jharkhandis UP Bihar MP wallahs dont get that recognition. Let me help you with that...because most of those guys are illiterate, or busy creating riots, or killing based on caste, or buring women. Just yesterday I read about some brave men in UP parading a pregnant woman naked and beating her to the point that she had a misscarriage...all because she protested when those men encroached on her property! Will such an event ever happen in Kerala?! NEVER! If it did...the state would be upside down...well in the north...it barely makes ripples!

Being jealous of Mallus and Kerala's beauty will not get you anywhere...how about cleaning the mess in your states, and aksing your lazy semi literates to start doing hard work to improve your lot?

Sreesanth speaks with his bowling

Out of the world performance bettering Kapils record against Sri-Lanka in India on a slow pitch. God save the one who call "surya the great" himself who must be burning himself under the shine of Sreesanth's sparkling performance. All credit to Srikanth & Co for putting trust on the bowler who has the best test average while getting first 50 wickets. An eye opener to one and all including Hayden who ignored his cricketing sense and judgement to criticise Sree due to personal vendetta.

His reported statment reading - "But I don't think I would change. I will do things which are right and not things which people say are right," - is where the catch lies. If he indeed practices what he says any further, God alone can help him.

See, after a single performance he's talking as if he's McGrath. Good time for this guy and I'm sorry to say, a bad, really bad time for Dhoni and Indian cricket team. I wish in next IPL Matt Hayden thrashes his confidence and puts him in the back burner for ever. A Happy Day for everyone. Let alone cricketer he doesn't even to be fit as a human being. He is talking to the media and answering questions asked. There is nothing like talking like someone. how else should he talk? Should he ask the media to wait and run to you 'Surya the Great' to find how to answer, and then reply.
