When will we Learn
by subir jha on Nov 26, 2009 12:42 PM  | Hide replies

I am absolutely disgusted and ashamed by this absurdity going on in the name of discussion. It is becuase of such divisiveness that people liek Raj Thackeray and their ilk are flourishing and winning elections in this country.

Do you guys even imagine that where did this all started . Someone has posted a harmless photograph taken in Australia and we Indians - like a bunch of monkeys are fighting amongst ourselves. This country is ours and we should be proud of each and every state. At the sam etime all of should acccept our weaknesses and together remove them utilizing each other's strength. Thats how we would be a better nation.

Sorry for this long write up. This is the first time I am writing on rediff and please stop this stupidity

Is Mathew Hayden from Kerala too? I know Mathhews are from Kerala for sure.I have that name among Keraleans before. And Brisbane is Kerala too or is it far away from Kochi? I think it is pronounced Brrrisssh-baine in Malayalam. I love Kerala, God's own country.

and you must be a first generation city dweller, whose forebears managed to illegally grab enough land, unleash atrocities and exploit the poor landless labourers and the abominable caste system that props up your hopelessly out of date social structure, so that their precious spoilt brat could learn to read english, and speak in a terrible accent, and generally puff himself up with a completely baseless and stupid sense of superiority. Jatin, what about Mr. Bhagwat's comments makes you feel that he is 'burning'? If my eyes are not doing tricks, what Sameer Bhagwat wrote is simple and straightforward..."At least there is one place in India which we can show off without bending our head - so be proud of that Idiot norhies instead of burning".

What in that gives you the impression that Mr. Bhagwat is 'burning'. (I stumbled upon this travelogue by one of the American guys from TYT 'The young Turks' describing the horrible chaotic disgusting experience of his travels across most of India...and he emphasizes several times that the state of KERALA is the only exception, and the only single place in the entire country that he found organized with civic minded citizens. Please google up 'The Young Turks...india kerala'. this sit_e doesnt allow links, else I would provide it here. Mr Bhagwat's point was on similar lines, there is only one state in India that consistently is applauded for its cleanliness, HDI (human development Indiex), and rated among one of the 10 must see destinations in a human lifetime by National Geographic etc. Instead of appreciating and emulating that, we find jealous comments from other Indians like Dhar!

Which is why it is nice to see someone like Sameer Bhagwat write sensibly.

Jatin, may be you could give up on your scurrilous comments too.

Welcome to the cultured world!

Whether Kerala is good or TN is better or North is bad is latter. People from various places are found everywhere, including so many Keralites contributing to garbage in New Delhi as much as Punjabis or UPites. It is the place and its history, not people themselves which maintain/ed its cleanliness.

More importantly, it is clearly visible, SAM@@R BH@GW@T and @XOTICBRONZE is one person using both IDs to support each other. LATTER MORE THAN FORMER.

What is your home state by the way? It may not be a bad idea to reveal that before you wax eloquent about another state.

You ever thought how many talents a small state like kerala churn out... I can give a list but i'm sure you'd not be recognizing anyone, coz all you guys know is some khans and bachchans. Sanjeeb, Sudir is not an unusual specimen. Instead of being proud about what Kerala has achieved in terms of the Human Development Indices (that rivals the most progressive nations on earth) and its cleanliness and civic minded citizens...very often you would find Kerala's achievements bring out the worst in terms of Jealousy among non Malayalis, especially those from the North!

One of the most unforgettable memories of my life is a train journey from the North that I undertook with 4 north Indian friends (almost 20 years ago)...and most of the journey those north Indian friends kept ridiculing the South. I kept quiet since I knew that none of my friends had been to kerala before, and that they would be stunned by the sights, greenery, cleanliness, and beatuiful homes, backwaters, cottages, and school going kids all freshly bathed and wearing clean clothes...with not slums/shanties or people answering natures call on the streets or by the tracks.

Our train pulled into Kerala in the morning, and immediately the scenery transformed completely...the vegetation, people, cleanliness...everything about Kerala left my four north Indian friends dumbstruck. It was a deafening silence, and I sat silent smiling from ear to ear, as their eyes popped out of their heads. I really did not need to utter a single word! A picture speaks a 1000 words. In fact i took my friends on a tour across kerala, went boating across backwaters n feasted on seafood. Great memories for my northy friends!

i agree with u completely but don't generalize all north indians are hardly like that..i am a north indian and i go back to kerala time and again..whenever someone asks about touring some part of India i recommend Kerala...the people are really nice and the place is exotic...Kerala is part of our pride no matter how the politicians abuse our whole country...I am from West Bengal and i have traveled a lot , so i know what am talking about..and i understand exoticbronze's getting angry too.but its an earnest request to all north south east or west..there are great ppl and places everywhere
