Inspite of a tactical blunder by Dhoni, India prevails
by Nikhil Shah on Dec 05, 2009 10:18 PM

The introduction of spinners at the end of day 3 to bowl the 3 overs needs serious introspection. I mean, if you are that desperate to win then why not just take 4 spinners and prepare an underprepared pitch? Dhoni should have added 20-30 overs in the last stages, declared at stumps and started fresh with the seamers the next morning with the new ball. The problem with introducing spin early and not letting the seamers to settle down with a good spell or even an extended spell has been around for a while. Using the seamers to just wear the shine out of the ball is an old strategy which should have been abandoned. Hey, add to that Dilshan was not out twice, I mean how desperate can you get. So the idea has always been to give the seamers a chance with the new ball for overseas performance. Even in the last tour of NZ Dhoni has failed to an early declaration and did not enforce a win. India's strategy of a heavy batting lineup and a strong spin attack has to change for a better overseas performance. Can Sehwag score a triple hundred all the time?

This batting oriented strategy has really been a problem over the years when our bowling attack never gets tested.

Bowling should improve.
by avinash on Nov 24, 2009 09:25 AM

The bowling of the Indian Team should show a great improvement in the kanpur test. In Ahmedabad the pitch was a belter and provided no support to the bowlers.Considering the runs conceded and inability to bowl out srilanka even once the indian team will have to retrospect what went wrong in Ahmedabad and will have to bowl well. The Indian openers Sehwag and Gambhir will have to start well unlike in Ahmedabad.

Now Saurashtra coach has put Sachin in his place
by Raman Shiva on Nov 24, 2009 08:56 AM  | Hide replies

Saurashtra coach has put Sachin in his place,he has said that Saurav was a better player than Sachin in his younger days and Sachin flourished because of his Mumbai roots which was a dominating factor in BCCI those days.
Well it is true, think about this,Saurav came to team in 1996(after just one game in 1992)but still scored over 10000 runs soo fast and won sooooooo many ODIs...he was much better player than sachin as he was a match winner,at times even with the ball. But he was unfairly dropped after just 1 game and for what?ATTITUDE,nonsense, how can a guy who refused to take drinks supposedly be dropped?his game should be the criteria for a place in the team?
Whereas Sachin on the other hand had support from high lobby from day one,he took 74 odis to score first 100,and even today his 0s in his early days are forgotten and any other player wouldve dropped after his lean scores i his early days.
But Saurav for his part self destructed by playing too much politics once he proved himself as a captain, and slacked as a batsmen.

He is now trying to expose Sachins supporters in the high rank which is keeping him in team by sarcastically saying sachin can play as long as he wants and that he retired even though he has 2 years left in him and all that...
Sachin is great, but Gavaskars comments that he is the greatest since Sobers is making lot of people angry as it is not at all true,so everyone is now trying to put sachin in his place.
From Bal Thackerey to Mike Atherton

absolutely rubbish talks...
sachin scored his first 100 after as many matches mentioned on top since he was a middle order bat, only when Siddhu was injured that he started opening during the new zealand tour. Agree that Saurav was a great player and captain but he can never be compared to Sachin, look at his average in both tests and ODI's would mean he was consistent in both forms for all the 20 years he has been playing int cricket.
the bottomline is Sachin is the best

Ganguly never was a great player...not good against quality pace attack on a linely pitch in test matches...cant handle short pitch deliveries effectively throught his career...not in the same league of dravid and sachin in terms playing under all kinds of pitches and bowling attack....just a good timer of a ball on the off side on a good batting pitch...these are facts....dont attach greatness to each and every one...

Who is Saurashtra coach you are referring to? What is his name? I guess he has a very biased view.

Saurav was a promising allrounder, no doubt. But he was nowhere near Sachin as a batsman. Sachin scored century on debut in Ranji, Duleep and Irani trophies. ie. Whatever level he was put to, he succeeded.

When it comes to ODIs, Saurav and Sachin both succeeded after being made openers. Sachin batted lower down during the first 74 ODIs and never really got a chance to score a century. In ODIs it is difficult for anyone from outside top 3 to score a century regularly. Saurav also was a poor runner between the wickets and a poor fielder. As long as his batting compensated for these negatives, he could command his place in the side. In ODIs his batting was great.

The best judges for rating Sachin are the great bowlers who bowled to him. If they say he is the best, we do not have to debate beyond that.

Jay,

U have a point that the best judges are the bowlers, but trust me no great bowler including Wasim or Waqar or Mcgrath or Donald or Ambrose or Walsh or Pollock or anyone for that matter who bowled to him never called him THE best, they said he was a great bat,but no one except Gavaskar is going Gaga over him. They all face interviews when they tour India and words are put in their mouth.
Infact when Waqar hit sachin in his nose and all the early flops of sachin happened Waqar said he never thought sachin would make it this far,he did cause he got lot of support from the TOP and ofcourse he also did good use of it.
Imran still rates Lara and INzi better than Sachin
Ambrose rates Steve waugh the hardest he has bowled against
Shoaib who knocked sachin for a zero in his first meeting with him says Lara is tougher.
Wasim and Waqar say he is a great bat but ViV Richards,Lara and Martin Crowe(as per Waqar played reverse swing better than anyone else)are better as they won matches under pressure

If u remember in a rating a year ago which comprised of Shastri,Ian Chappel,Manjrekar they chose Lara over Sachin..

Its only Gavaskar who the last 20 years is obsessed with Sachin
and for people who say he has all the records, its a lie
What about the fastest ODI hundred(Afridi, did it twice)?
Or the highest odi score(194 Anwar)
400 in Tests
he doesnt even have a triple century..

Bullshit....wat r u talking abt....sachin played these bowlers quite confidently over the years in test cricket ..we all sat and watched him playing against these great bowlers...and we know hpow he played against them...entire cricketing world knows this...wat's ur problem....he was the only player who is able to successfully tackle those bowlers on that efficiently....we watched those great inningses...we never forget them easily

We need bowlers
by Jay on Nov 24, 2009 12:04 AM  | Hide replies

When people ask how many Tests Sachin has won, how many Sehwag has won etc and compare with Ponting, Smith etc, it is a useless comparison. if Aus and SA have won more matches it is because they have bowlers who can take 20 wickets in a Test. The batting lineup which India had for the 1st Test was the best ever for India ( Top six as a group). Add Dhoni to it, we have the best batting lineup. But to win Test matches we need 4 very good bowlers. In the last decade or so, except Harbhajan in one series, it was only Kumble who looked capable of taking wickets. Now that he is also gone we are short of quality bowlers. Unless we have a group of 4 strong bowlers as a group, we can not be competitive. Only Zaheer (when he is fit) can be selected for the 4 slots. The remaining 3 voids are to be filled to make the team a strong one.

Agree. India need bowlers. Zaheer is the only one.

Bajji is living on his past!
Rest is just garbage.
BCCI is sleeping at its wheel!

BCCI is pure garbage in quality. The guy Sashan whatever has done nothing other than sitting on his BIG ask.

Did u see the BCCI didn't even bother defending Sachin when the crackpots from Sena attacked his very just statement?

BCCI should remember that it is Sachin's brand that brought them all this money. It is not Seshan or Pawar playing cricket that people care about!

But Sewag is a quality opener that has scored 300 runs twice. I dont doubt him.

Bhajji is extremely talented batsmen.. But just tired of dirty politics.. It is his chance of getting a hundred too.. He would have got plenty of them if he would have batted as an opener or top batting line up.. But he sacrificed his batting for this team.. Like a true Punjabi he only knows to win matches for India.. What a champion Bhajji is

Mr Sunil, We dont need batting skills from Bhajji. If he can take 5 wickets in a test match and score 0 in both innings, thats perfectly fine. He is in the team as a strike bowler and should concentrate on that

He has lost his motivation. Drop him and may be he will find it back.

I do not know why Bhajji is in team till now. His bowling has gone worst. His wicket taking abilities after his first 3 tests has gone down. it is not like that he is the only spinner in india who takes his place granted. try to bring some other spinners and give them chance.
