Aurigo Auri

I agree with you that DRAVID's technique, patience and cricket application is much better than Gambhir's. No wonder he is the MAINSTAY of India's Test batting since so many years. His range of strokes is very minimal and copy book - as exact as in coaching manual and a treat to watch. Nobody can fault Rahul's technique. Its a treat for any Indian to watch RAHUL play flamboyantly this gentleman's game in whites.

Having said all that we must not forget that GAUTAM GAMBHIR is another good Test player for India (DONT FORGET./..... Gambhir has won ICC Test Batsman of the year award last year).

That means he has performed consistently well and scored heavily with his bat. He is a great player to watch and always has aggression in his play, which to some people can mean Test matches are not too dull, draggy or boring. However the way Dravid can save a Test match by staying put like a Wall, Gambhir can do that only , only if he curbs his aggressive strokes only a little bit. He is no doubt a great player, skilled at the craft.

Gambhir can become the 2nd WALL for India if he calms down a bit and sticks at wicket for longer periods of time and applies himself more to the TEST MATCH way of playing. Sometimes he gets into the T20 or ODI mood I think. But he is a great player to watch, amazing stroke play, immensely talented and gifted with timing. He always has that hunger in him (you can see it in his eyes) to WIN matches for India. GAUTI - the future wall

BCCI killing Test cricket
by vikas nair on Nov 20, 2009 10:52 PM  | Hide replies

In reality it is BCCI's record breaking television deals that is killing Test cricket. They have signed televison deals which pay them for the number of days of cricket played. So BCCI wants cricket to be played for the whole 5 days.Anything less than 5 days will dent their earnings.Hence the idea behind DEAD PITCHES and 7 centuries and a dull draw.Hats of to Australia ,South Africa and Sri Lanka which still see a duty towards Test cricket and realize that it still is the foundation of cricket.

i agree. ind matches esp on ind pitches r boring. 5 days play with no results. just 21 wkts to fall in 5 days. rubbish ckt.
bury the tests if they r played in ind pitches.

blame sachin for fun
by Indian Mallu on Nov 20, 2009 09:57 PM  | Hide replies

This is how sachin haters comments goes.
if he got out for 1- 40 : Drop him he doesnt know how to play on plastic track like this. always fails in second innings. never played an innings to save test match,, one again let the team down.
40- 50: hez nervous on nearing on even fifties.
50 -75 : Threw the wicket after scoring selfish half century.
75 -99 : Hez nervous on nearing century
100 : scored a selfish century for himself.

How come none of these Sachin haters criticise Sangakara for unnecessarily dragging on the first innings to enable Mahela to score a triple hundred ?

See Sachins selfishness
by zen on Nov 20, 2009 09:46 PM  | Hide replies

He wanted to score 100 in the last hour, even though I praise him for helping India in saving the test why he shud run behind rcords alrea he is leading in that it doesnt make sense. Instead of that win more matches for India and win the 2011 world cup single handedly thats what matters now....

Yes you are right.Cricket is a team game. India won 1st T20 World Cup as a "team" without Sachin.

Because Sachin was not as young and super energetic and scoring heavily as when he was younger during 1999 World Cup or say 2003 World Cup.

During 1999 World Cup Sachin was amazingly quick and awesome to watch in stroke play because he was YOUNG (26 years old). During 2003 World Cup also he was just 29 or 30 years old (under 30).

Now he is 36. You can't expect the human body to always keep you fully fit and alert as you age, MORE SO when you are making that body continuously play 100s and 100s of cricket games under the sun and giving it so much physical stress, injuries, back pain, tennis elbow and all that. Even machines need rest, relaxation and enjoyment. We are afterall human beings.

Even the greatest of players like Brian Lara or Don Bradman retired after say 10 or 15 years of cricket, when they knew that their bodies were becoming less responsive. 20 years of cricket is YEOMAN service to India by Sachin. Hats off to him. The greatest player for India , no doubt about that.

But he should realise that age is catching up and that INDIA winning matches is more important now than him creating records for history books.

This is a dead pitch. There is nothing in it for bowlers on both sides.
