ind need to wake up and smell the coffee ind is the 2nd largest population in the world with cricket as its only sport and cricket is a small commonwealth sport on the world scale yet historically ind have lost a lot more cricket matches than they have won yet cricketers are treated gods in ind when nobody wud give a 2nd look to indian cricketers outside ind and what is this hype about tendulkar-its just that he has plyd long and has been consistent, nothing more he has won no world cups or champions trophies he cannot be compared to bradman, sobers, warne, viv and hobbs indian cricketers are nothing but a hyped lot they can just fool thye indian public not intelligent cricket fans if the indian cricketers were/are so good, then why the heck have ind never been the no 1 cricket team. i dont read posts i dont reply to

How many World Cups and Champions Trophies did Bradman, Sobers and Hobbs win ?
Eventhough he had tons of talent, he didn't convert most of them into reality.
Apart from that, he is not such an ordinary player not to be selected in any ODI world cup so far. The reason is he is not an athletic fielder as if the other persons in the teams are Jhonty Rhodes.
Most of the Indian players inluding Dravid, Tendulkar etc were not extrodinary fielders not to speak of Kumble, Ganguly etc....
It was/is rubbish on the selectors to treat a quality player like Laxman.
Indians are in a piquant situation. Indians played well in the India-Australia series and yet ended up in the loosing the matches. Indias two premier batsman Dravid and laxman are back and will add to the test batting strength. Still the loss to australia is a big let down for the country indian will have to show supreme temperment and return back to form it is good news that indian batsman dhoni and tendulkar are in supreme form with good scores in the india australia series. sachin as he as always been in a major threat to the srilankans. who have formidable spin attack with Mendis and Muralitharan to cope the contest will be evenly contested.
If India wins both the Test matches in t his series against Srilanka (i.e. 2-0) then they will climb up to the Top Spot in the ICC World Test Cricket Rankings...I read this in a paper. Is this true friends ?
If this is correct, then Indians MUST put focus hard and put all the dedication and hardwork and manage to win these 2 Test matches (the Indian conditions, home pitches, home support, home crowds, home climatic conditions etc...are all in their favour too).
It would be a great achievement for OUR TEAM INDIA isn't it ?
TEST MATCH cricket is the REAL ORIGINAL cricket (not ODI or T20 cricket) which tests the cricket players endurance to battle 5 long days and concentrate for long periods in the game and play a wide range of shots or bowl a wide range of deliveries and also tests the captains of both teamd to adopt to strategies from time to time in various sessions of the game on various days when pitch changes its characters based on climatic changes and the like. TEST MATCH CRICKET is the real battle for cricketing supremacy. Till now the Aussies have been at the helm and have shown the world they are Masters of Cricket because they are Masters of Test match cricket. The English team has also defeated Aussies in the ASHES and showed their prowess.
Now its time for OUR INDIA to RISE and SHOW the world what mettle we are made of.
Yes SACHIN, LAXMAN, , DRAVID - The world class batting legends in India along with talented 8 members can WIN this series

Srilanka have not won a single Test match on Indian soil (i.e. in any of their tours to India) and their confident captain Sangakkara is looking to reverse this and make amends this time around. Is this right ? Correct me please if I am wrong.

if sachin fires all cylinders India will win 3-0 otherwise it will be 0-3 for sl
One of the greatest players the game have witnessed. Truly agressive in the field, was an unsung hero because of the ODI format to which he was not a part. Austrlia's success in the tests owes a lot to this great opener. Sooner he will be a coach in any of the IPL teams. That is for sure, considering the amazing talent this person possess.
Re: JUSTIN LANGER- UNSUNG HERO:
by Orient Mystique on Nov 16, 2009 08:11 AM
Justin Langer was truly one of the heroes of Australia in test matches.
He couldn't do anything creditable while leading his English County side in the recently held Airtel T20 Champions tournament - personally with his batting or collectively as captain of his team.
Why then should any IPL team waste their valuable money on such a person and engage him as coach?
Also, it is time (in fact long overdue) people realise that good players don't make good coaches - as much as brilliant students need not be good teachers!

Mr.Orient, You may be true to an extent but A little correction: Instead of Good players don't make good coaches it can be Good players need not be good coaches. But, if the truly professional Australian board selects him as a batting coach, it will not be without any logic unless our useless IPL Jokers who select any TOM, DICK & HARRY & throw them the next day.

You are contradicting yourself first you say that he was not a part of Australia's one day squad and then you say he will coach IPL team because of his talent. Write sensibly so that people will not laugh after reading your comments
The ideal team for Tests should be 1. Gautham Gambhir. 2. Virender Sehwag 3. Rahul Dravid. 4. Sachin Tendulkar. 5. VVS Laxman 6. Yuvraj Singh. 7. Dhoni 8. Ravindra Jadeja or Ashish Nehra (Eventhough he is not in the squad) 9. Ojha or Harbhajan Singh (If he regains form as a bowler). 10. Zaheer Khan. 11. Sreesanth.
Munaf, Irfan Pathan, Koli etc.. should not be selected at any cost. Ishanth Sharma too needs a break and should be tried only after an year unless there is injury problems to the main bowlers.
Re: BEST TEST TEAM:
by SATHYAMOORTHY on Nov 16, 2009 08:33 AM
An alternative idea: At No.2 Suresh Raina instead of Veeru, No.8 Ashish Nehra only, No.9 Harbajan only and No.11 Ojha instead of Sreesanth.
Re: Re: BEST TEST TEAM:
by Srinivasan Renganathan on Nov 16, 2009 08:58 AM
Mr.Sathya, What I suggested was just one of the combination.
Virender Sewhag is one unpredictable guy who is always a 50:50 risk. Yes, if Sewhag fails in this series, he can be permanently shown the door in Tests and later in ODI's because u have that "fielding restrition" bonus in ODI's.
Ashish Nehra is an equally good bowler like Zaheer Khan. Since, he is not selected, I have put him as an option.
Sreesanth should be played (Extra fast bowler), depending upon the pitch conditions.
But, unless Harbhajhan bowls well, it is worth to give Ojha a chance, who is a better bowler than Harbhajhan in ODI's. But in test cricket, we have to wait and see.
Going by the various comments by fans, it seems like that India has lost its war against Pakistan or China. Very Funny, because after the third one dayer (India were 2-1 up), everybody including out great Ravi Shastri was telling about a 6-1 sweep for India. But, suddenly everything has changed and now the Indian team/ selectors are blamed. If one has any logic, Indian Team except for the bad defeat in the 6th ODI, almost won all the matches, that too against a world class team like Australia, considering their bench strength to be the best in the world. So, there is nothing to lose hope except for a few changes in the team. The ideal team for ODI’s should be 1. Gautham Gambhir. 2. Virender Sehwag (Flat batting Tracks) or Parthiv Patel (In seaming/bouncy tracks as an opener/Wicket Keeper instead of Sewhag/Dhoni. 3. Sachin Tendulkar. 4. Suresh Raina. 5. Yuvraj Singh. 6. Dhoni or Robin Uthappa (If Parthiv Patel Plays). or Yusuf Pathan. 7. Ravindra Jadeja 8. Praveen Kumar. 9. Ojha or Harbhajan Singh (If he regains form as a bowler). 10. Ashish Nehra. 11. Zaheer Khan. 12. Sreesanth. This is the present available talent in India. Nothing more rather than everybody is shouting. There should be no place for Munaf Patel, Irfan Pathan, Rahul Dravid etc in the ODI, 20-20 format. Ishanth Sharma can be tried only after an year. If we follow this, we can win most of our matches, including against this world champion Australian team. we can definitely easily win agai

Game itself means for crazy Mr.Tandon. We have seen England the pioneers of this game have changed their captain during certain circumstances like strategy to stop defeats or to make a distinguishable approach.
Re: BEST ODI TEAM:
by Against Pseudo on Nov 16, 2009 08:24 AM
just one suggestion: it can be sachin (on flat tracks/ weak bowling attacks like zim/kenya/ ausi b team)otherwise play dravid/laxman
Re: Re: Re: BEST ODI TEAM:
by rahul bajaaj on Nov 16, 2009 08:44 AM
AP, Dravid was & is a burden in the ODI format but how many chances was Laxman given. Laxman is definetely a better choice in ODI. If fielding is the criteria, then how does Munaf Patel, Kumble etc... and most of the players fitted into the ODI format till recently.
Re: Re: Re: Re: BEST ODI TEAM:
by Against Pseudos on Nov 16, 2009 08:48 AM
Rahul Bajaj:
Strictly speaking no one is a burden on the team if they perform their bit.
Dravid, most interestingly actually performed quite decently in the Champions Trophy.
It is just that my namesake with a missing "s" suggested that Dravid / Laxman combination is better than Sachin that I responded tongue-in-cheek. :) As for Laxman, he sure can be tried, but the question is whether he is game? His fielding is quite superb in the slips, but again, with our type of bowling attack, slips is the first thing to be taken off after about 3 balls are bowled in the innings. So adding another batsman to a side desperately crying for a couple of decent consistent bowlers - hmmm... not sure. :)

Mr.AP,
I have neven seen u posting a single useful comment in this forum except for some sarcastic comments.
Being u a loyal Sachin fan, who dont accept tendulkars dismissal (even praises on how tendulyas middle stump was uprooted stylishly, since it was Sachin's batting), we cannot expect anything useful from u any concrete suggestion in this forum.
