20 years back

When Sachin Tendulkar travelled to Pakistan to face one of the finest bowling attacks ever assembled in cricket, Michael Schumacher was yet to race a F1 car, Lance Armstrong had never been to the Tour de France, Diego Maradona was still the captain of a world champion Argentina team, Pete Sampras had never won a Grand Slam. When Tendulkar embarked on a glorious career taming Imran and company, Roger Federer was a name unheard of; Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was an unknown kid in the Jamaican backwaters. The Berlin Wall was still intact, USSR was one big, big country, Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to "open" the Nehruvian economy. It seems while Father Time was having his toll on every individual on the face of this planet, he excused one man. Time stands frozen in front of our Sachin. We have had champions, we have had legends, but we have never had a Sachin Tendulkar and we never will.

Again look at his career achievements he did all these years.. NO one can even come closer to all the achievements that he has scripted all these years in cricket. he has been such a great ambassador to India breaking all the records and battling single handledly in innumerable matches. We all Indians should be proud to have such a cricketer coming out of our soil. Long live his records.

Sachin the Best

It is no doubt Sachin is the Best Player and the same way BCCI has supported him.
There were many occasion Sachin was not playing but still Team Selection Board continued their support .
That is the advantage of having KAR in your name.
But sachin being somuch involved in the game , a good learner ,smooth personality , Role model, still he was an unsuccessful Captain of INDIA .
I feel if Sachin was more supported by everbody than any other player in INDIAN Cricket.

Dude "There were many occasion Sachin was not playing but still Team Selection Board continued their support ." is highly offensive. Get your facts right.. Even in his poorest times he was averaging more than 45 in tests and 35 in ODIs. Thats good enough to be in any team. He always been no 1 batman for India. If he is in his worst time he was still No2 at the most.

Everybody saying Sachin will not break the record for playing longest period of 31 years and similar to that.
Just see other players who have played those matches compare with Sachin
Sachin played almost 440 ODIS and 160 Tests which means around 1240 days of cricket. Just say what is the total days played by others maybe 250 to 600 days. Maximum Imran, Ponting, Lara, Kallis, Sanath, Dravid, Ganguly,Steve Waugh and Javed might have played 800 days.

So, Sachin played more days in International cricket which will not be broken by any body.
Go Sachin Go, play as long as you can
Make 100 International Centuries
200 Internatinal 50's
and 35000 International Runs
Whole India is behind you

Sunil Gavaskar is wrong in saying that Sachin is the only player apart from Sobers to have played for 20 years.

Here is the full list of the past 15 players who have played for 20 years or more:

1] W Rhodes (Eng) 1899-1930
2] B Close (Eng) 1949-1976

4] G Headley (WI) 1930-1954
5] J Traicos (SA/Zim) 1970-1993
6] J Hobbs (Eng) 1908-1930
7] G Gunn (Eng) 1907-1930

the point is none of the 15 players mentioned in the list 1) played continuously for 20 years 2) sobers, imran et. al.were dropped once or twice 3) injury kept imran and sobers for at least two to three years out 4) none of the players toured year after year to so many continents nor did they all play so many tests and odis and 5) none of these guys mentioned have scored more than 60% of the runs scored by sachin. they might have played longer but did not play these many international matches nor did they score or took wickets like tendulkar has done. period.

Sunni meant to say playing at the highest level consistently for 20 years.

W rhodes has not played between 1914-1918 due to First world war.

He meant consistently for 20 yrs. Among Indians in recent times, Mohinder Amarnath played almost for 20 years - 1st Test was on Sep 1969 and last ODI in Oct 1989.

He is perhaps the only batsman (Indian) to advice Sachin..
Sachin has been special and he should be reviewed by selecet few, not morons like manjrekar, that indian moslem wicketkeeper, i forgot his name..
They all not have made cumulatively the rund which sachin has made..

You can not compare Kapil with anyone. He is also once in a century player. Whatever way you compare he will stand out. Leading a country to World Cup win at the age of 23 is something none may be able to do. How many pace bowlers can bowl non-stop for 31 overs in a day in Test from one end as he did against West Indies in 1983 taking 9 wickets. There were many Tests in which he almost bowled from one end to almost lunch from start. Indian cricket team will never have a replacement who can even do a fraction of what he did.
