Pawar politics
by Arnab Sen on Nov 10, 2009 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

The biggest cricket, or for that matter sports, loving city, kolkata gets just one match, and neither a semi final, quarter final or final????

Crude politics and shame that the greatest crowd gets to see just a match with England

First...Pls check again ....Sports friendly people in Kolkatta have got 4 matches...of which 1 features India.
Secondly...it was this SPORTS FRIENDLY people who did not allow completion of a semifinal in 1996 world cup...i think we should learn from mistakes...better to avoid than repeat....

That is why Pawar's own Mumbai gets the finals.

As far as I understand, Mohali is the best ground in India and Eden the best atmosphere.

How long will you live the ghost of 1996.

Eden is the ground where people are most knowledgeable about cricket and moreover cricketers all over the world acknowledge that.

Shame on Pawar for petty politics with Dalmiya

some noted events for Eden gardens (Source wikipedia)
- Rioting has been seen at the ground during the 1966/67 West Indies and 1969/70 Australian tours.
- The 1996 World Cup semi-final was called off with Sri Lanka on the verge of victory over the home side.

sports friendly....ha ha ha ha ha....
I would tend to think people in india are arguementative....never happy with anything...arre yaar....even if Pawar has given the Final to Wankhede stadium ....all it means that now even Wankhede stadium would have world class amenities, by 2011....

but i think you want that....as per you the best should stay the best....with no improvement in others...

Arnab Sen

We should have 126,773 World Cup Finals in 2011 schedule.

One each to EVERY stadium that exists or will be built by 2011.

Else you'll accuse Pawar of petty politics. :)

Boss if the final is in Eden Garden, how is it NOT petty politics?.. :)

Alok, by that argument, when in England they should have finals in Headingley or somewhere else and not LORDS.

Eden has an official capacity of 90K, which is the largest in India. Btw, Wnakhede has about 45K, even if it is refurbished, how much more do you think they can increase, certainly not 90K.

Don't you think maximum number of people should be able to witness the finals?

If not finals atleast one major match should be alloted to the ground.

Against pseudos:
You have a bizarre logic, you cannot compare eden to any tom-dick-harry ground of india man.

just like you cannot compare Wembley to any other ground say, even Stamford bridge or Old trafford.

Sen:

Similarly you can't compare Wankhede to Eden either. :)

As to 45K v/s 90K, billions will watch it on Telly I am sure. :)

Not all, but whenever in Australia they do have finals at MCG only.

Since this is in India, the biggest capacity is in Eden.

Anyway, us arguing won't change the plan.

I presume all of us want a good and peaceful world cup.

Good arguments Mr. Sen....appreciated....but
by your logic...we should have all matches in MCG...because its the best and has the largest capacity...

I think let not get into a long argument...i think and feel that its fair to allot matches to other grounds...Its my point of view...People are free to disagree...

Let hope every thing in the 2011 WC starts and ends peacefully...

Happy news for indian cricket fans. Probably 20-mar-2011 will be the last match for SACHIN. See the schedule that is the last leauge match. Anyhow if India enters the quarterfinals and semifinals that would be the last match. But I have strong beleif in India team for the early exit (2007 world cup)

You are very happy that the YOUNGSTERS will finally breathe a sigh of relief? .. :)

With his almost continuous display of superlative batting which doesn't seem to stop, M/s Viru, Gauti, Yuvi and Dhoni are definitely under tremendous pressure to save their rapidly eroding image. :)

So your point is well taken. :)

WORLD CUP TEAM SELECTION
by Mohan on Nov 10, 2009 09:58 AM  | Hide replies

If India want to stay ahead of competition then please include DRAVID and in one year please try Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa. Give them a fair chances. They are capable. If Dravid fails to perform in the mean time he can be dropped. But he will give 100% and worth it. Even if you loose, loose respectfully.
