statistics are revealing
by ranjit roy on Nov 10, 2009 09:11 PM

in 6 matches:
sachin - one 50 score
sehwag - all below 50 (plays test cricket like ODI, ODI like 20-20, and 20-20 like ?)
gambhir - played well in first 2 matches - failed in matches 4,5,6
yuvraj - one 50 score in 5 matches
dhoni - did his bid in 2 matches but cant be expected to perform match after match
raina - 2 50's out of six

whereas watson, ponting, hussey, white have been the mainstays of the aussie - ponting and hussey have not failed in any match - watson after first two matches, rose to the occasion in every other match with bat and ball (should be man of series)

indian bowling - less said the better - pathetic is not the word

indian fielding in every match seems to gift 20-25 runs

Aussie fielding - saves 20-25 runs in every match

running between wickets including the hussey ability of finding singles at will and converting 1's to 2's and 2's to 3's - 15-20 runs advantage for the aussies

in 3 close matches india lost all three which means any one of sehwag/sachin/yuvraj/gambhir/dhoni match winners on their day failed to take the team home - india could well have been leading 5-1

aussies did not do anything extraordinary - gone are the flair players such as gilchrist and hayden - only ponting qualifies and to a certain extent hussey (a la bevan) - yet the team with 9 key players missing outwitted the indians in their own backyard - this is what captaincy, team spirit, fighting spirit, never-say-die, getting the basics right, and mental resolve is all about

IT WAS NOT TAKEN LIGHTLY, IT SHEAR INCONSTENCY...OF STARTERS
by shobha on Nov 10, 2009 09:47 AM

I disagree with Amarnath's statement, why he is trying to save them........
It was shear inconsistency, lack of technical play by Tendulkar(except Hyderbad until 20 balls to spare), YUVRAJ, SEHWAG, GAMBIR AND DHONI, HARBAJAN. I DO NOT BLAME NEW GUYS AS THEY ARE NEW.
DO THE REST OF THE PLAYERS EXCEPT SACHIN GIVE HUNDRED PERCENT??? DEFINITELY BEHAVIOUR IN ON FIELD /OFF FIELD COMPARE TO SACHIN/GANGULY/DRAVID/KUMBLE/SREENATH/ROBIN/VVS WERE ALL LEGENDS AND THE JOKERS(KEY PLAYERS) YUVRAJ/DHONI/HARBAJAN WERE NOWHERE CLOSE TO THE ABOVE LEGENDS IN ALL APSECTS.THIS AMOUNTS TO SOME PERCENTAGE OF ATTITUDINAL PROBLEM WHEN YOU PLAY.

IPL/Ranji performances
by arun on Nov 10, 2009 08:44 AM  | Hide replies

Selectors/Team management should not get confused with IPL & Ranji performance. If a player succeeds in IPL, give them the chance only in T20International. IPL performance should not be the basis for Test/ODIs. We have wasted many yougsters taking them based on their IPL performances. YusufPathan,Jadeja are examples. Moreover, they should be groomed in Domestic circuit before puting them in international level. People say Manish Pandey should be selected. Let him play some domestic season, let him be successful, then he can be taken based on his performance.Jumping the Gunshould not happen.

BCCI - Racist against own people
by Legionnaire on Nov 10, 2009 06:26 AM  | Hide replies

No where in the world there is a blatant example of racial discrimination in the worst form against own people then in India. There is nothing wrong in hiring a foreign coach if he is the best candidate among all, but it seems for BCCI being an Indian is an ineligibility for coaching role, you are already out of the contention if you happen to be Indian. It is accepted John Wright did some good work with India but after that what has these foreign coaches done for India?
1) Has Indian fielding improved? - Yes, only if you compare it with earlier teams when Ganguly, Kumble, Srinath, Prasad, Kuruwela were playing, Compared to rest of world? - Bangladesh is probably a better fielding side than India.
2) Has it made any difference to temprament of Indian team? We choke in most tournament's finals, series deciders, couldn't finish off in close matches, players get run out at critical junctures, bowlers get nervous in slog overs and destroyed mercillesly.

These fundamental problems were there in 80s, 90s and have remained today as well, so what difference have foreign coaches made? As a matter of fact we were winning more finals in pre foreign coaches era. In foreign coaches' era the only significant world class tournament we have won is 2007 T-20 world cup and guess what the coach of that team was Lal Chand Rajput! I wonder if anyone in BCCI or cricket public had ever offerred even a glass of water to him.

Continued from above:

BCCI openly without a care in the world with a discriminatioin policy in its worst form has made it fashionable to hire foreign coaches only. What is it that foreign coaches bring on the table that our Indian coaches can't? Or have we accepted the fact that Indian players can't be good coaches? If that so then BCCI should publicly state that in their view no Indian is capable to be coach of India and therefore no Indian should apply for coaching of team India.

WINNING T20 WC WAS REALLY FLUKE, IT WAS POOR SHOT OF MISBAH BECAME GAIN FOR INDIA. IT WAS NOT A CONVINCING WIN PLEASE. IF SREESANTH WAS NOT THERE OR HAD HE DROPPED THEN WE WOULD HAVE LOST IT. I DO NOT AGREE AS T20 WC WAS AN CHALLENGING. IF ONE SAYS WHATEVER WIN IS WIN, UNDER ANY GAME WE CAN BE PROUD BUT ALALYSIS DOESN'T AGREE WITH IT.

Pranav, I think you missed the point. The point is you take any coach for India the results will be more or similar. The Indian coaches haven't done worse then their foreign counterpart and foreign coaches haven't done anything great to warrant a total monoply of the position of coach for India.

NZ beat Pakistan in the 3rd ODI
by Ramesh Kapoor on Nov 10, 2009 12:50 AM  | Hide replies

Reading through Cricinfo, the match results show that the last pair scored 103 runs taking the score from 101 for 9 to 204 all out, and NZ won by 7 runs. Its the way the last pair took the game to a conclusion for trying, and the same can be said of the two bowlers Jadeja and Praveen Kumar. Why is it that the openers and the top order batsmen fail. Rash strokes, overconfidence, lack of planning, and or is it ego of the top order that they are invincible that must be blamed. We applaud the team on its victory and immediately start sending congratulatory messages just to throw brickbats on their failure. We should stop this excessive praising on victories and stop yelling when they fail. A game is a game, some have good days and others not so. Rationality rules, that consistency is what should be expected from the players and if they cannot provide the same, they should hang their gloves and not become subject of ridicule. As for selectors, they have a task and a formiddable one at that. Let us see the composition of the team for the 7th ODI, and team against Sri Lanka.

Rotation Basis - Bigger pool of Players?
by km vb on Nov 10, 2009 12:29 AM  | Hide replies

Zone players are protected.
Dinesh Kartik is now doing the role as like Dinesh Mongia did earlier.Dinesh Kartik is being used to protect zone players.
If selectors and Captain wanted to test players in reality, they would have given a chance to.....
1) Shekar Dhawan
2) Murali Vijay
3) Mukund
Opening slot and one down slot can be tested with these three but as selectors and captain wanted to protect Sachin till 2011 World Cup,they are using Dinesh Kartik as a temporary adjustment for injured/Sick/engagements if any.
Slectors need to pool all zone players and give them a chance. For example one may calculate for how many matches Murali Vijay was there in team as an extra player(12th,13th,14th&15th man)and how many matches he was given chances. Now he was sidelines and do any Indian can imagine Murali Vijay is going to get another chance to cement his berth?
Every selection is on the basis of understanding but not on merit to give fair chance to really deserved players.
Retaining Sachin till 2011 world cup is a big mistake and Sachin's place should be given to a deserved players like Murali Vijay/Sekhar Dhawan/Mukund.

Ab-so-lu-te-ly. If Sachin keeps scoring 175 in 141 balls, it doesn't show our YOUNG Tigers Dhoni, Yuvi, Gauti etc. in good light. :)

Sachin should immediately be barred from ODIs... :)

I think km has a point. Sachin is great ,no exceptions. But lets imagine a situation. Sachin gets injured just before 2011 world cup. This is sachin's dream. Whether he will fake the injury as Sehwag did during champions trophy. I dont think so. Number of alternatives becomes less. You dont want to bloodin youngsters/inexperienced players in a major tournament. That is why we need to rotate the players. With the amount of cricket being played, it is sure that the players fitness will not be 100%. Just think Dhoni getting injured before the tournament. So the selectors have to bite the bullet and give chances to new members.

Obviously! Thats exactly why also quoted Dhoni as well. I understand Pro-Sachin :)
I am just saying rotation should be there and there should not be stopgap arrangement all of a sudden

It just shows that Australians are lot more determined to win. It is the mental aspect of the game. Indian bowling was not up to par because of injuries and lack of form.

WITHOUT DRAVID TEAM LOOOKS UNBALANCED
by pranav on Nov 09, 2009 10:29 PM  | Hide replies

AMARNATH --------ABSENSE OF DRAVID IS SHOWN VERY CLEARLY HOW BADLY HIS ROLE WAS NEEDED IN LAST TWO MATHCES. THOUGH SACHIN SCORED HUGE KNOCK AN HIGHEST EXPERIENCED SO CALLED GOD OF CRICKET DO NOT KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THE SITUATION IN AN EASIEST FLAT PITCH.
IT WAS UNAVOIDABLE BUT KUMBLE SURELY WOULD HAVE BOWLED MUCH BETTER IN GAUHATI. HARBAJAN IS NOWHERE CLOSE TO KUMBLE AS PEOPLE THOUGHT.
