A brain washer for Sachin haters
by Ramelton Pandya on Nov 06, 2009 06:10 PM

Over these years, Tendulkar has been key to Indian fortunes - he averages almost 57 in matches that India win, but the slumps to 33 in games India lose. His 32 centuries in wins is more than any other batsman has scored in his entire career, which is a telling statistic of how far ahead of the pack Tendulkar is.

Tendulkar has also scored more than 19% of the runs that India have scored in the games which he has played. It's more than the corresponding percentage for all batsmen who've scored more than 10,000 runs in ODIs. Among the other prominent openers who haven't touched 10,000, Desmond Haynes has a slightly higher percentage - 19.58, to Tendulkar's 19.34.

Percentage of runs scored Batsman ODI runs Team runs Percentage
Sachin Tendulkar 17,168 88,765 19.34
Sanath Jayasuriya 13,377 85,829 15.59
Ricky Ponting 12,286 72,683 16.90
Inzamam-ul-Haq 11,739 76,991 15.25
Sourv Ganguly 11,363 63,702 17.84
Rahul Dravid 10,765 68,996 15.60
Brian Lara 10,405 56,047 18.56
Jacques Kallis 10,328 60,518 17.06
Adam Gilchrist 9619 62,716 15.34
Saeed Anwar 8824 48,502 18.19
Desmond Haynes 8648 44,167 19.58

Tendulkar's overall average is an impressive 44.59, but it gets even better in games

We Lost The Plot
by Sanjay Roy on Nov 03, 2009 12:49 PM

After having thrashed the Aussies in the previous two one dayers we just let the advantage slip on a lobvely batting track. Shwag though gave us a fantastic start he just seems to lose his way. Being a senior in the team he should have realised that it was time to consolidate...He just gave his wicket away. It is difficult to fathom how Virat Kholi can come at No 3 when poor Raina had held that position not so long ago. Kholi has done precious little to deserve a place in the team. Ishant has been very inconsistent for too long and should make way for Munaf Patel who has done well off late. It is also time to relook at the opening pair of Shewag and Tendulkar. If Gautam Gambhir is fit...then he needs to open with Shewag and Tendulkar should come down the order as in any case his batting today does not take advantage of the power plays. Besides he could add a lot more stability in the middle. I don't understand this attitude with India where because he is Tendulkar he cannot me moved up or down the batting order. We need a lesson in professionalism from Australia on this. Though Tendulkar got out to a bad decision it took him 68 balls to score 40 runs in a batsman friendly wicket. His past scores in the previous 3 one dayers have also been too slow. Its time to relook at his position.

statistics of Mohali ODI
by Raghu on Nov 03, 2009 12:41 PM  | Hide replies

Sachin was too immersed and selfish in reaching 17000 runs and Gavaskar and all the kar's were awaiting the moment that in the process sehwag got frustrated and threw away his wicket and 2 glories maiden overs granted to siddle by master blaster sachin tendulkar. if sehwag was around for another 5 overs - india could have run away with the match...

Good plot. You can write some good novels and get them published.

Just don't advertise them as "Cricket Books" please. That's the only request. :)

Virat Kohli
by Hemant Bisht on Nov 03, 2009 12:32 PM

Why Virat is playing in every match, seems great approach in BCCI, Its better for team India to play with extra inspite of playing with virat, he is useless.

What Else India Neeeded to Win @ Mohali !!!
by unknown on Nov 03, 2009 10:45 AM

India (Dhoni) won the toss, which generally becomes crucial for any match especially for a day-night game, dew factor.

- Indian bowlers especially spinners did well keeping aussies total to a medicore one (a total of 280 or more was a competetive one)

- India found great start (almost a T-20 style).

- Required Run Rate was ever in control, even till the last ball.

- Aussies hadn't their top side playing in this match, while Indian had all top players except Zaheer and Gambhir (since bowlers did well Zaheer wasn't missed and if 7 batsman were not able to chase 250 then saying missed gambhir will be too much)

I think this much is enough for you (the people who are citing different excuses such as Sachin's wrong LBW decision etc) to enable to found the actual reason for India's defeat.

Ishant needs to be replaced
by Guest on Nov 03, 2009 10:16 AM

Ishant needs to be given a break from international cricket for a few games. The layoff will give him time to honestly and carefully analyze the reasons for his deterioration. How long can you keep someone in the team that seems to have lost his confidence and swagger and is consistently falling short at the expense of upcoming youngsters like Tyagi and even Munaf who are knocking on the door based on their stellar domestic season performance?

Poor selection again !
by Navneeth on Nov 03, 2009 09:29 AM  | Hide replies

Wonder how many matches Kohli has costed us coming up the order , he is yet to prove himself at domestic level and has age by his side. Why expose him so early in crucial matches?Raina is better at No 3 in the absence of Gambhir or even Dhoni.Kohli and Jadeja should be left in the domestic circuit to hone their batting skills.Likes of Badrinath who have played long innings now and again might be given a chance at No 3. Ishant needs a rest , Munaf should play instead of him. Mishra's talent is getting wasted literally. Why is the Mohali flash screen more concerned about 17000 runs for Sachin instead of 250 runs needed by India to get to No. 1 ranking in ODI's ? Certainly he is a great player but not greater than the Indian team at the top of the world. I feel in real time he was LBW , just that the media is hyping it up especially that Boria Mazumdaar..Hawk eye is trying to turn a straight arm ball ..what a stupid technology ! Sachin was playing for himself yesterday wasting the start giving by Viru who has lost his game in ODIs too

correct, and i dnt think it was for the first time that sachin seemed so mean, whenever he is on a verge of accomplishing a milestone his sight from the aim concerned gets diverted. virat hasn't proved himself yet & jadeja though a good bowler and fielder ws selected to provide strength to batting & nt other sectors. the way sachin played really dissappointed me,he is my hero bt i really think he shud leave his place for the sake of good.

I 100% agree with Navaneeth, for sachin and ppl who consider him God (like the one above) , no matter india win or lose, his personal records are important..on such a batting friendly track, where viru scored 7 4s in 14 deliveries, he was struggling..and scored at snail pace (40 odd strikerate)..

Why Should he be thrown out? Truth always bites.. I completely agree with him. No matter how genius a player is, he is not beyond the game and team.

i feel that we should groom Viraat Kohli and Jadeja, Raina has been given a lot of chances; why is Rohit Sharma not in the team?I think he is better than Suresh Raina.

also, yuvraj seemed so casual yesterday; he thinks 1 MoM AWARD books his place for the next series and then takes his place in the tean for granted

Overconfidence did them in
by Anil Menon on Nov 03, 2009 09:19 AM

It was over-confidence by some of the players that did them in. Sehwag looked impatient and wanted to finish off in 15 overs, rather than concentrating on staying at the crease and taking singles to win the match.

Whereas Saching was focussing on his next feat - 17000 ODI runs - supported by the continuos flashing of --- Saching need --- runs to reach 17000 blah, blah, blah...

Yuvraj ran himself out because of his lethargic run. He took the challenge easily and was looking for a repeat of earlier match. His lethargic running between the wicket cost his wicket.

Jadeja, Raina, Kolhi... no use .. I wonder they would fit for playing Ranji matches.

Harbajan & P.Kumar are best batsmen down the line, I think they should be sent up the order.
