by venkat nr on Nov 02, 2009 09:50 AM  | Hide replies

This match india has to win so that inida will be world number one in the ranking. So indian has to plan accordingly. We don't have the two great batsman like Seghav and Gautham. Both are good players. Let's hope with the best. We have decent score. We can win very easy.....this match is depends on first batting....

again I say if India achieves number 1 ranking by winning a tournament ,then it is more creditable than by winning a one day series!
Look at aussies ,they know how to peak at the RIGHT TOURNAMENT!
India has to achieve this to be called a champion team!

Chokers Tag are given for team performing badly in the important Match. But i see we are performing badly even in the first round Match and getting out in the first round itself.
We are consistently Failing in the firs round (exception 20-20 in 2007)I think we won that because we never had any expectation (for a change evryone expected we would come back in the first round).

Do not attach too much to these rankings!!
by manoj krishnamachar on Nov 02, 2009 09:46 AM

since it is temporary!
also what is noticable is that India usually achieves this ranking in say some bilateral series!
If they can win a tournament and come up the number 1 ranking then that is more creditable!
If you notice Aussies may well lose this series but they peak at the right time for major tournaments like WC/CL and win them
Indians have to achive this milestone, then they can well and truely be called world number 1!!

Sachin is run-getter but not match winner
by bhanu prakash on Nov 02, 2009 09:18 AM  | Hide replies

Sachin is run getter but not match winner...his stats speaks hardly he has won 10 percent of his total innings for india are match winning innings...45 out of 450 which means only 1 in 10 matches....so watch 1 match and rest 9 matches to see him performing...where as people like gilchrist, duminy, lara, bravo etc have high percentage which goes upto 1 in every 3 or 4 matches they win on thier performances...In india there is more hype publicity than performance based publicity

Bhanu Prakash

Thank you for sharing the excellent statistics.

So you mean to say that Lara, Gilly and Duminy have won 25% of their matches. Very poor show considering that they failed in 75% of their matches.
I think Federer is far superior in terms of win percentage. Don't you agree?... :)

Hey,

I am a fan of Sachin and am greater lover of cricket.

Sachin no doubt is a great player but as to winnablity - he is not the best.

The players to whom he is compared to certainly ran better.

Yes Gilly, Lara and others have failed in 75%, but tell me one thing?

how many centuries has Sachin scored against the major teams (not Holland, Kenya, Zim, Bangla...) outside of Asia that have resulted in victories for India.

If my memory serves me right it is only 1 (one) the first century he scored against Aus in Aus recently.

His dominance and insistence to open the innings in ODI and rigidity not to open in Tests to show his technique in poor light.

For ex - Dada, Dravid, VVS and others have opened in Tests but Sachin never opened - where in Tests oopening bowlers are not stifled by the fielding restrictions and go all out dismiss the batsman.

Tell me the nr of times Sachin has been able to bat beyond the 40, 45th overs in ODI. If he is a innings constructor, he should last 35 overs consistently which he has not.

Were to claim himself to be a blazer in the mould of Gilly, jays or afridi, he should have had a massive strike rate which he does not possess.

Sachin can be classified at best to be a 45/50 of 37/40 balls opener.

His winnability is certainly shady.

sachin survived so far in circ team due to marathi dominance in team selection procedure. He is just a good player definately not the best one...there a whole bunch of other players who are better than him.

I am glad to see that Marathi dominance is so powerful that it scored 138 in the Tri series final; Marathi dominance scored a blazing 163 n.o. against NZ in NZ..
I think we need more Marathi dominance from Raina, Yuvi etc. too... :)

BTW, Dhoni has just found his Marathi dominance and he blazed a 124 in the second match of this Aussies series.
So Bravo! for Marathi dominance... great job!!.... :)

Use common sense dude.Dont look at the stats. It is a team game. What other players have done when tendulkar plays or does not play.If you look at 1996 , 1999 and 2003 world cup, you could see india has done a tremrdous progress just because of sachin tendulkar. How many test matches he has won for india. How many match he saved for india.Still he is a back bone of indian cricket.Whenever he is there in the game, opponent team still scared of him.He is called god of cricket and he remain so.

You just dont play the game to do tremendously and end on loosing side....ofcourse everyone wants to win..look at australia from 96 to 2008 they hardly lost a match or a series that doesnt means they kept people cemented coz they are not losing...they sacked waugh brothers, bevan , gilly n hayden forced to retire just to make way for younger blood...they dint sit like we sit that if sachin goes we cant find a replacement...no one can replace gilchrist but that doesnt means he will cement n play for 50 years..we all can see he still plays in IPL but australians think for their country and we indians think for money

world cup?
by Legionnaire on Nov 02, 2009 09:01 AM  | Hide replies

There was a time when Tendulkar was cut above the rest of the players in world and India alike. Today, Tendulkar is still the best among the current lot of Indian players but no more the best in the world. He is no more the supreme batsman which bowlders around the world feared. Today its more of a question of bowlers respecting him than fearing him. Virender Sehwag is probably more feared by bowlers than Sachin at the moment.

My feeling is Tendulkar will perform reasonably ok in world cup but still India will not be able to win the world cup. The best opportunity we had were between the three WCs from 1996 - 2003 when Tendulkar was in peak form and fitness. A half fit Tendulkar is still better than rest of the Indian players but sadly thats not sufficient to win the world cup.

Again a stupid point of 2003 finals - that time Aussies were far far superior than any team in the World, even if India batted first what they did in the league stage and got skittled out for 125 and Aussies won it easily. So decision of batting second was not wrong as propagated by the South Indian media ..... Ganguly was was by far the best cricket brain India had but unfortunately not lucky as Kapil so Aussies didnot choke in 2003 finals like West Indies in 1983 finals.

We indians have the tendencies overdoing everything. Lets see the situation on ground and go thru it. Dont expect too much of anything and of anyone including your own family members. Ofcourse media works for their own TRPs. Take evrything in stride. Win or lose part of the game.
