Kumble is not that great what has been projected. His balls never turns even on the sub-continent pitches. He himself is a very bad fielder but shows attitude when someone misfields on his bowling. How he could be a true gentlemen?

kumble is great in the sense that he is a great tactician. There are lot of talented bowlers, but they dont apply their mind. Also, if you are bad does not mean that you cannot expect others to be good. It is like saying that a teacher cannot expect his student to win a noble prize unless he has won it. what a logic!

He got capitancy just before his retirement and you must note his capitancy record was not bad even for that short stint.

Because Kumble Saved his job as the coach of RCB team.. a team which had touched the bottom and had come almost equals to joker Knight Riders team whose owner is hiding his face here n there. Otherwise next time Mallaya would have fired this coach as he did last time with Charu Sharma and Rahul Dravid! He should have infact called him God..but anyway ended at just Legend! I tell you, in present date IPL now carries more international craze than any international ODI match. What you perform here becomes your international status. See how badly Peitersen is being treated after IPL fiasco or same with Symonds and Flintoff.

Why Ray Jennings took so long too understand greatness of Kumble. why he was not appointed Captain in the beginning. Ray Jennings is just riding his luck by winning few matches

what matters is the 4th column titled wickets...what's the use if you bowl big leg spinners and they always miss the edge.. Kumble is a thinking bowler.

Mr Raj. It is not 0 controversy which makes a player legend. It is attitude on and off the field which makes a player legend. Kumble did that as an international player (stats and off field behavior proves them) and is currently doing in the IPL. He lead them to this stage. So, he is a legend. It is not a joke to take 600 wickets. I think all 600 wickets takers are legends on their own right.

No doubt he is good Arvind but not a legend. The amount of non-stop cricket he played, nothing great if he took 600 wickets. Mark my words, with the amount of cricket being played now a days, there will be many many who will be taking 600 wickets

He has won more matches than any batsman in the team.He is the reason for most of India's victories b/n 90-2008.

He is great because despite him not being a big spinner of the ball he is there right at teh top with Warne and Murli...let another bowler from India come close to the number of wickets Kumble has taken and number of matches he has won for india...wait...is there any other player including Sachin who has won such a number for India?

Sachin too is a great player, a legend, a master. But he could not bring the world cup. He did not succeed as captain. His team MI is out of contention in 2009 IPL.
But he is still great. Kumble is in the same category. One can not judge people by the immediate past records.
What is also important is that the blame for loss and credit for win goes to captain whether or not he was directly responsible. You can see happening with MSD.
