What a historical and unforgetale innings it was ! I can not forget this innings ever till i am alive. Steve Waugh was surprised and stated that he has never seen such a class innings and Sourav stated that it is the best innings he has seen ever. Laxman is a champion but he did not get so fame as he deserved. But no problem. he is a gem.

My personal opinion is beacuse of dravid his glory was unsung.. everybody was praisng dravid as a wall and sachin as a god and this guy got in to a shadow.. but he was better batsamn than dravid and he wasn't allowed to play in fixed batting position...

Laxman is a class no doubt but he was always made to interchange positions with saurav (no. 5 and 6). When India played 5 bowlers, he was always left out. This has nothing to do with Dravid as he has been the best at no. 3. As far as singing of glory is concerned, we Indians always do hero worship and it's always Sachin! People forget match saving and winning inngs of others (Dravid, Laxman, Saurav, Viru to name a few) as Sachin has most of the WR and we tend to give more importance to that. Ultimately cricket is a team game and the players (bowlers and wk included) who are all in the team for such a long period making India a good team all deserve accolades.

i completely agree with both... is he one the best test cricket player in the test cricket. he is the 2nd player who can play single ball in 6 or 8 different ways... the only other player is LARA. he is that much capable ... he dint get the fame because he is from andhra and not a mumbai...or north... and

My aged uncle says that, both Viswanath and Laxman use the bat as painter's brush.

It is correct. VVS is similar to Viswanath & Azhar. He is equally important to the team as Sachin & Dravid. These 3 have provided a solid middle order for India for many years now. Now adding Sehwag & Gambhir also makes it a strong top 5.
Shewag tumbles in test matches, because he lost patient while playing test.gambhir was derserved for impose new ranking. As far laxam striving to move ahead. I'm happy to appreciate his moitivation.Shewag should retalitate in 3rd test, which has he missed his batting at 2nd test.Dravid remains at same position, eventhough he put some effort on last game. What is my findings so far,our team can adapt to new condition easily and thrash the opponent in both limited overs.my opinion is to imply rotating method for giving chance to rest of the players to play for india. We have lot of talents around the country.Bcci should disseminate to the individul state regarding to trace new talents for india instead of intimidating icl.

Either India will rise or in the worst case remain in the same place, how can India drop in ratings after winning a series?
Re: Re: what if the match ends up with 1-0???????
by naveen sethuramalingam on Mar 31, 2009 07:23 PM
coz it is clearly mentioned that if India wins 2-0 it stays in same rating
Re: Re: what if the match ends up with 1-0???????

NZ is a lowly ranked side, hence, we are expected to atleast win 2-0. The ICC ratings depend on who the opposition is and what their current rating is. If we face Bangaldesh, we are expected to win 3-0 to retain our rating.

I would put Kumble at number 3 and push Dravid to number 4. Kapil dev is ahead of Kumble because he is the greatest Indian alrounder and has inspired the team to world cup fame. So, he is just ahead. With due respect to Dravid, I would push him next to Gavaskar. Gavaskar is an average ODI player but he is the best Indian test batsman ever. He is the one who taught other Indians how to play quality fast bowling. That puts him slightly ahead of Dravid.

Gavaskar is the best among all time greats. He left nothing untouched. 13 centuries against ferocious West Indies is enough to talk about his great skills. Remember he never wore helmet. He made a magnificient One day century against NZ when bowlers had no clue on where to bowl. Till Azhar's record, he was the fastest scorer of century for India in tests which was again made against mighty west indies. the person who can be next is none other than Kumble for his fantastic match winning performances.

I think Vengsarkar was missing there. In those days when India used to celebrate the drawn tests, he was one who won many tests. He was the person who adjusted quickly to Onedayers and made the first 100 for India. All 4 tests that Kapil won in his life were gifted by 4 beautiful centuries from Vengsarkar. His century at Leeds when the team was bundled out for 230 was the career best and was rated as 21st best ever innings in the cricket history by wisden. Among the list, I feel Ganguly is one person who can be taken out.

Viru Sehwag should be in that list, He has 2 300's in test matches which is equivalent to Sir Don Bradman and Brian lara.

i said overall that is odis, tests, captaincy everything may be u can put ganguly at no 6 and veeru at 7
lakxman was equally at par with dravid in every sense... some times he edges out dravid in times of quick runs needed for the team at crucial moments...

VVS laxman is class batsman, Rahul Dravid is like batting machine(Only defensive) :-)
Re: Re: Lakxman and Dravid!!!!

We cant compare Laxman and Dravid as both have their own class. dont degrade Dravid saying that he is defensive. I remember the way he blasted bowlers like Donald at bowler's peak. We forget many things and make judgments on current forms. Laxman has been playing very well in the last 9,10 series and he is a great player to watch. But dravid played consistently for seasons and his stylish way of batting too was very attractive in those days.
Gavaskar Ghambir A lethal left right combo Rahul Dravid - A class player who can adapt very well Sachin - I am too small to talk about him Ganguly - Can be agressive and a slient killer Dhoni - A vastly improved keeper and an astute captain Kapil Dev - Wow what an allrounder Manoj Prabhakar - A perfect support for Kapil Kumble - A jumbo of a man. Always gives 100% EAS Prasanna - A wily off spinner Srinath - Probably the best quickie

Viru Sehwag has 2 300's in test matches, Viru Sehwag can score so many runs in 1 hour that Gavaskar or Dravid can score in 1 whole day.
For example: Viru Sehwag can score 100 in 1 hour wheras Sunny Gavaskar and rahul Dravid wiull take whole day to remain not out on 99 :-)

I fully agree with you. But when you have two agressive players in gautham and sehwag it might not be a good idea to have them at the top order.
Re: Re: Re: My pick for the test team

Viru Sehwag and Gautham Gambhir are the best opening pair in world :-)

i ll put haynes n greenige frm windies at top coz dey were best openers in both form of d game odi s wel s test..............agreed dat sachin n saurav r oll time bezt in ODI but dey r not regular openers for tests so i think windies duo is d bezt as openers in world
VVS Laxman was better ODI batsman than MS Dhoni coz VVS laxman scored 6 ODI hundred's in 120 matches scoring 4000 runs(apporx.) in which he scored 4 100's against Australia when they were considered to be no1 ODI team of all time.
MS DHoni now bats at the same position at no6 in ODI's and he has scored 4 100's in 130 matches and most of the hundred's are against weaker teams.
So, VVS Laxman better tbatsman than MS DHoni in ODI's :-)

this comparison is absurd as VVS is in team as mainline batsman where as MSD is in team as WK batsman. I feel these two can not be compared.
