The Dhoni factor
by sujith krishna on Mar 29, 2009 04:19 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni is an essential part of the Indian team, not just because of his captaincy, but mainly because of his credentials as a player. Almost all matches he score runs. Even in the first test he was rock steady with Sachin. Which wicket keeper had this quality earlier (Indian). Dinesh Karthik drops catches leaves runs and in batting Harbajan is more useful than him. I dont think its the captaincy what matters the most. We are loosing the balance of the team. When Dhoni is there 7 batsmen and in his absence a wicket keeper who cannot keep prperly and bat 4 bowlers and 6 batsman.

You are absolutely right. Dhoni is among the very few reliable 'fighters' in this team. He may not have the technique, but he more than makes up for it with his grit and determination. He along with Rahul Dravid and VVS are the only fighters this team has. The tougher the situation ,the better they bat. Not good condition/1st innings/easy bowling bullies like Sachin.

I don't know much cricket but "afraiding" pitch for batsmen (which Sehwag needs) generally means "happy" pitch for bowlers (where Sehwag is not "possible").

Good analysis.

And when that balance also fails to click as in the final ODI of the series becoz of an unexpectedly seaming pitch, then we end up with similar performances that we saw in the first 3 days in this test...

Tomorrow Our best Cricketer Sachin ( As Said by his fans Not Me) will try to make one more century playing 50 overs. Indians will Try to draw it. If Dhoni was present it would be different. remember Dhoni's team chased 387 runs target against England. If others were captain at that time they would have thought for draw. Dhoni Zindabad

Just don't sit inside the confines of your house doing nothing, socially shunned and feel good by saying something. You're a a mighty loser who doesnt have the faintest clue what the hell you're talking about. Don't you feel bad about how stupid you are. When the test is in a precarious position, it takes batsment to adapt to situations. And you moron, try and understand that it takes spectacular technique and application for a batsman to bat through multiple sessions. Go watch bollywood you worthless nincompoop. And when you draw some intelligence, come and post your comments here

Sachin is best cricketer not only by his fans but also as per his stats and many former cricketer's including Sir Don Bradman, 387 runs was won because sachin scored a century, if one or two guys are not fans, then there is no loss for sachin or his fame

INDIA MAY STILL SAVE THE MATCH, BUT
IF DHONI WOULD HAVE BEEN LEADING, THE SITUATION WOULD BE REVERSE .
IT WOULD BE NZ TRYING T SAVE THE MATCH.
THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE DHONI MAKES.

Just recollect last Aussie Test Series,As soon as Kumble was out for one test and Dhoni led the team, India won the test.

Without Dhoni, India is back to OLD ways of 'Heroically trying to save a match'
and our old stalwarts like Dravid, Sachin and Laxman would get acclaim for 'SAVING' a match.

We dont want such defensive mind set. we have to be agrressive and oher team should be trying to save the match.

THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE DHONI MAKES.

Dhoni was the captain When we tried dead hard for a draw in the first test. It is wise to save a losing test.

If Dhoni would have been captain, it would be NZ trying to save the match.
He doesnt have defensive approach.

He would not have allowed NZ to score 600 plus.

THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE DHONI MAKES.

what bothers you so much about sachin? what could dhoni do? he is still the captain, though he isnt playing. they have to ensure that they dont lose, that is what the team is now doing.

buddy it is still dhoni's team only

And Dhoni's team made 387?... Great...

I thought India had won the test... :)

Similarly India is defending this match, as it was defending the last ODI when things didn't click under Dhoni himself..

Ya dhonis team made 387.. For last ODI we had already won the series so he had taken some new guys in field so that they can improve their skills. If others captained for india at final ODI then they would play for their personal score like sachin

Man:

You are referring to Sri Lanka's last ODI...when he experimented..

I am talking about the NZ final ODI, when the same winning combination was persisted with..

Since you feel that maintaining the same team amounts to playing for personal records like Sachin, then what does that make Dhoni, by your own logic?... :)

Whatever may be the case, we should salute Sachin's mental toughness. People like Yuvraj should learn this from him. He makes the most of good conditions/flat tracks/easy bowling, without fail.
