Poor Plannig. Business interests.
by Jagdish Reddy on Mar 24, 2009 10:10 PM

IPL and the Indian Government poor planning lead to this fiasco. Also it might have been partially influenced by the owner's of the teams such as SRK trying to get Pak players, to sell more tickets. Afterall SRK's dad migrated from Pak to India!!

cricket in india is private club sport
by sanjeev verma on Mar 24, 2009 10:08 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI (And also ICC) is a private club and like any other private club, they are free to decide anything related to their club and its activities.

Cricket in india is a private sports not supported by government officially. Indian goverment or its bodies can not conduct and control cricket tournaments in india. All the cricket stadiums and sports authorities are members of BCCI.

ICL (Whose chairperson is Kapil Dev) also another private club that also organize cricket tournaments in india. This is similar to football clubs in England/Italy etc.

We indian are fools enough to think that goverment can interfere in any of the BCCI issue. The only issue with BCCI is that it depends on Local police and administration (e.g Traffic personals) for secure and successfull cricket toournament.
If there would be enough private security personals in india, BCCI, being cash rich, can avail the facility but unfortunately its not the case.
Since this time government denied any local support to IPL, BCCI decided to conduct it in SA. Government is
not bound to support a private club. If we are so desperate about cricket then we should force government to adopt cricket as official sports, in that case you can blame government easily.

Local clubs in Italy/ England don't go and conduct their premire leagues outside Europe. We are blaming Modi and Co. for this whole incident and not the govt. It just leaves a bad taste in outside world who sees India as a major cricket ground.

You are right, we should blame BCCI/ lalit modi but not the government. If by chance any bad thing (And in today's scenario of terrorist threats) happens during the tournament, it would give message to the world that India cant handle a large scale sports event. Actually India (or any other country) can not handle two big events same time, in that case priority goes to General Elections only.

If I am not wrong- to conduct Commonwealth is Indian govt. responsibility but it is no way responsibiluty of them to host IPL. Also, we would not be having elections at that time.

The Delhi govt. has royally screwed with the preparedness of the games. Security will be another issue. The games body has already tapped The present govt. on the knuckles.

IPL is no important thing for us
by KrishnaSundar suggula on Mar 24, 2009 10:02 PM

Dear.. we need to give much importance to the the ordinary Indians who are suffering the most. All our fellow Indians will gain nothing if any of your said things happen. Lets think that it is blessing in disguise and the focus is again on two square meals for every derived.
We are not at all to be shamed for some body's silly entertainment business. Every body around the world have facing their own problems and they don't care or bother about IPL if not happened in INDIA or help elsewhere. But they will certainly take us silly if some terrible thing happens and the poor and weak people cannot exercise their vote and choice to elect their future

hi instead of banning IPL matches it would wiser to throw out the people who forced the situation, not only IPL but the entire country as a whole. Eradicate the diasease not the symptom.

Well Lalit Modi too wanted IPL matches to be played in India. But which of the congress government gave him security assurance. Do you think Modi will have a gun and protect international players during IPL. No. Its government's responsibility to protect players if it wishes to have revenue generated in India. Its people of India who are responsible for this. Had they elected the right government, security would not have been a concern.

PC Chidambaram is more interested in getting back to power than generating money for India. For congressis election is more important than India's pride, revenue and cricket.

victory for cricket
by Gireesh Kulkarni on Mar 24, 2009 09:45 PM

when it comes to each person of this country has different opinion, people are taking it as war between ipl/bcci(lalit modi)vs Govt. of India (mr.chidambaram) but both of them are correct. as for as govt is concerned most of the security personnels are busy in protecting politicians. n bcci is concerned of the money involved in the tournament , now all the things are settled down , everybody simply enjoy cricket n don't get involved in fighting. so its jai ho cricket....
