I see many criticise Sachin & Dravid in this forum. What they don't understand is that before Sehwag and Gambir we never had good opening pair. We saw S.Ramesh, Jaffer, Dasgupta and some more. No steady opening pair. They kept on changing and that affected Sehwag's performance also for sometime. Most of the times Dravid would come at 10 or 15 for 1 and Sachin at 20 or 30 for 2. They had to the job of both the openers as well as the middle order. Inspite of that also they had won many matches for India. Moreover our bowling attack especially the fast bowlers were not of the match winning mould after the retirement of Kapil Dev. Don't simply ctiticise Sachin and Dravid because wins always depend upon the collective efforts of 11 players and not on one individual. If one or two perform and the rest fail the team will bound to lose. Vettori and Ryder scored tons in the 1st innings and still NZ lost because the rest failed.

This is best to answer to those who crtisise sachin and dravid without any arguments.
Sachin is a best batsman no doubt, but still others are there. Remember in test cricket we have to take 20 wickets to win. It doesnt matter even if we score 1000 runs. We have other batters such as Sehwag, Wall Dravid, Stylish yuvraj who have not performed in first test. They are also match winners. Even in this match, Gambhir, Dravid, Yuvi, Dhoni, Zaheer played vital roles. Dont forget the most under rated bowler Munaf took vital wickets. Its team effort not individual. Hope India will win 2-0 as a team. Ofcourse it needs contribution of Sachin too.
Sachin has played yet another match winning knock and it has gone unnoticed. Some How in test cricket Sachin;s knock go unnoticed.People say he cannot play when India needs it.
Which include the coach Krikstin, Captain Dhoni , the 4 pacers (Ishant, Zahir, Munaf, Pathan), Veeru, Gambir, Yuvi, Sachin, Raina, spinners Bajji and KUmar.

The typical Indian heart is very big!We win a few matches and let the other team win the rest!(in true sportsman spirit?) We will never win matches continuously like the australians or south africans. Records in consecutive match wins: 1.australia-21 2.south africa-19 3.india-9 As is evident, there is a huge difference between the world's no.1&2 teams and us.Hence the chances of us bridging the gap and becoming no.1 or 2 is very little.

Dear friend. AUZ and SA may have had consecutive wins. But they have also a number of loss. SA lost to England 5-0. AUS lost to SA also 4-1. India has lost only two matches during the last fourteen/fifteen matches. Wait and see India will soon become No.1.
When India failed to even qualify for the Finals in a world is got this manager of Zee TV upset with the BCCI bureaucracy.. So he started ICL. But corrupt BCCI started IPL which was a blessing in disguise.. For the first time performance was MONETARILY REWARDED... That's when the Quality of India WENT SKY ROCKETTED..
That gave birth to DHONI and also to the killer instinct...
So stop evaluating any heroes.. The real one the the CEO of ZEE TV..
But how will Indians understand that.. 'Cos they never innovate only follow other leaders including cricket that was invented by England/Aussies...
GANGULY AT 21 MSD AT 5 LONG WAY TO GO STILL MSD NEEDS TO KEEP ALL HIS WEAPONS SHARP IF HE NEEDS TO SURPASS GANGULY AS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL INDIAN CAPTAIN
Re: MSD VS GANGULY

Dhoni has already surpassed Ganguly in more than one way. I am sure Ganguly didnt win as many matches as in the same period of time as Dhoni. So cut the Ganguly crap. Ganguly always rode on others performance. Remind me of a game where Ganguly won a match for India as a captain?
I predicts... INDIAN CRICKET TEAM WILL REIGN/DICTATES WORLD --- FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS FROM NOW. IT WILL BE BRUTAL FROM 2011-12 ONWARDS IN EVERY ASPECTS!!

Why do we have a need to rule the world ? Just enjoy the good times in Indian cricket and remember them when we falter. Enjoy the game as it comes....I think we take it too seriously.

At least in cricket Sachin has proved that Size and Age do not matter. The way he played makes me wonder whether he can play like that even with a walking stick.

We are blessed to have players like Sachin. Honestly age was neevr issue until some media created hype, bradman ,gooch, boycott, miyandad,Arvinda Dsilva,,Sanath all could perform beyond so called avg age players..and they performed better..Sachin is one of them.

Just want to ask you one thing, Is Players get retired because they were not able to play or they give opportunity to young generation. I have no doubt Sachin's ability now or future for more 15 years or so. But do you think he should keep on playing????
Re: Re: Re: Size and Age don't matter

Most of the greats walk away when a) they are no longer able to meet their own high standards (or) b) physical/mental exhaustion - age slows them down c) dulling of their passion for the game d) disagreements with selectors/coaches/captains about their role and contribution d) Only a few times they move away to aid in planning (that too maybe a series or two before they'd have anyway retired)
It is RIDICULOUS to expect Sachin to retire so that someone can try and maybe succeed. With so much cricket being played there's always scope for many players to get chances.
Finally it is a profession and nothing other than skill and performance should matter. When you retire at 33 from your job because there are so many youngsters trying to make it in your line of work you can get back on the soapbox and give your speech.

Its all about performance. If Sachin dont perfrom for couple of series (barring medical stuff), then we can talk abouit replecaement. OR else...He Shoudl Play He will Play...And NObody can do anythign about it. The man is not just great player, He is the best cricket brain this team has....Dont be too impetuous about youngsters..Youngesters are theer for every field..and in every generation theer are some unfiortunates one...thats just part of game. Rajinder Goyal from Delhi, Paddy Shivalkar were very good spinner during Bedi,Chandra Prasanna time..They didnt get chnace at all...Ind has good seconmd line coming but replacing Sachin right now is suicidal...You said somethign about 15 years moreSachin himself wont agree on that...

one who is doing well should continue. And there are 10 more places to be filled in. So waiting youngsters can fight for those places. Instead why ask a dedicated and experienced player to make way ?

50 test hundreds still at 42 it would take at least 2 years for sachin to rake up 8 more test centuries
Re: Re: Re: Size and Age don't matter
by venkat a on Mar 22, 2009 07:47 AM
Not really - now see ponting, he is struggling to get a 100, last time he was OUT at 99. And he started getting 90's fever as like Savhin in the past. But now sachin recovered from that fever, so it wont take 2 years for him to get 50 Hundreds, may be in 3 to 4 tests series....
