A lot has been said in the recent time regarding form , approach talent and all , but in my opinion there is no one at no.3 who can stady the inning, its ok if u get the flying start n dont lose any wicket till 15 overs but wat abt losing the wicket on the very frst ball e.g. 2ODI who ll take the team out of danger , do u think Rohit or Uv can hadle the nasty bouncers , atlst i dont think so the only player who can see through those deliveries is Dhoni so he should come at no.3 . In the later part of the inning u have yusuf nayar infact rohit too at no.5or 6 who can hit big shots . MY team for the 3rd ODI is as following Vijay Gambhir Dhoni Yuvraj Yusuf Nayar Kartik Bhajji Ojha RP Singh Praveen kr

because he is an ordinary player. It is not that the role has been assigned to him. He can not hit 4 and 6 even on flat pitches and on blower friendly pitch he can not even hit the ball between the fielders. What does he do? He tries to project himself as sheet anchor and get away with his weakness.
In the later part of Indian inning in 2nd ODIagainst WI, pitch became good for batting but he never tried to accelerate the run rate or get his team total around 250.
I tell you, only if Yuvraj plays well in the remaining matches, we can expect wins. Otherwise, there is no chance.

Yes, he is trying to play safe, we have been seeing it ever since he took over the captancy. If the situation is critical he sends either Raina or some one in number 3, if it is otherwise he himself comes 3, it clearly shows how smart he is. I think he thought no one is monitoring him as if he is the smartest one in the world.
East or west...Dhoni's the best. Cummon guys cheer up Team India...they can do it...we have champions trophy coming up so we need to boost our teams' moral!
Sometimes I wonder do Dhoni really need appreciation for his innings of 90 odd runs or not?. The answer to me is NOT.
I have reasons to share with readers. Dhoni has recently changed his style of slam bang approach (I personally feel that he is better slogger than a sheet anchor) to playing a sheet anchor. Its no wrong play as SHEET ANCHOR when there are others around you who can dominate bowlers of the opposition and you rally around them. BUT and this is most crucial, when you do not have players around you who dominate the bowling, what your role should be, again keep on playing SHEET ANCHOR. Ridiculous as it sounds. Had RP Singh would have got bowled in first over he faced, what total we could have got, 100 odd. Where then DHONI's patient 90 runs would have figured.
To my views (and everyone else can beg to differ with me), Once YUvraj got out, Dhoni should have stepped out of his SHELL and asked players around him that let me know take the centre stage and just be with me. He did otherwise.
For last few months, DHONI wants to play full over in any format, so that he ends up having 40's, 50's and 80's and of course with so many hitters in the squad, the run rate will automatically be taken care off. BUT THEN WHAT, when all hitters are out. DHONI still can't hit the ball as he has shown when he took third power play, but could barely hit 1 odd boundary.
To me his SHEET ANCHOR approach is uncharacterisitc to him and for this I do not appreciate his efforts.

Good question and an extremely important point..... now perhaps we can begin inspecting the contentious issue of "Sachin did not win us many matches" syndrome....
As you rightly highlighted, it takes two (or should I say eleven) to tango...

Your point is well taken, but u also need to remember that when the going gets tough, our superstars invariably failed and then what is the difference between our superstars and `ordinary' batsmen? Here at least dhoni played well when we were down in the dumps. On how many occasions have our superstars having much greater talent than dhoni played such an innings?
