Virat miss to break Dhoni's 207 runs record....
by Anurag Rathore on Jun 26, 2009 10:46 AM  | Hide replies

Delhi’s Virat Kohli set the Eden Gardens on fire with a 121-ball 184 that guided Mohun Bagan to a 97-run victory over Town Club in the P Sen Trophy final on Wednesday. Coming at No 3, after Manish Pandey got out in the second over of the match, Kohli took the opposition bowling by the scruff of the neck hitting 20 fours and eight sixes in his 134-minute innings. Just when it seemed he would surpass Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s 207, which the India captain scored for Shyambazar Club in the same tournament four seasons back, Kohli perished trying to hit Suvojit Chakraborty out of the park. He had to take a break due to dehydration midway into his innings, but came back and continued in the same vein.

“My team-mates told me about Dhoni’s knock and I had that in my mind. I was unfortunate not to get there,” Kohli said. About his innings he said: “I was determined to make amends after the failure in the semi-final. It was very hot and humid out there. But the wicket was excellent to bat on.”

ICC decisions reasonable
by binoj peter on Jun 25, 2009 08:34 PM

Day night test matches are waste of energy especially in a country like India as match doesn't attract many spectators. However if there is bad light towards the end of the day, then the required overs can be played under lights. Referral system is going to be tough on batsman. Centuries will be hard to come by. Only if you play 100% perfect cricket, a batsman will be able to do so. It is good that batsmen-friendly wickets are going to be termed "poor" as this help in making more result oriented pitches. As far as bad light, it is right that umpires just need to stick on to the standards fixed for ideal playing and if it falls below that, just call of the game rather asking the batsman.

Day Night Test Matches ??? Crazy ??
by Raghu Kummetha on Jun 25, 2009 07:59 PM

We know how difficult it is to save our engery resources, instead ICC is plannnig for a Day-Night Test Match. Even though i am mad about cricket but i am strictly against the day night test matches as it requires huge amount of power. ICC & BCCI...Please reconsider your plan. SAVE ENERGY, SAVE PLANET EARTH

Make test matches interesting one
by ganessin virappin on Jun 25, 2009 07:23 PM

In order to make test matches interesting one the curator should be encouraged to produce a result oriented pitches. In this way we can avoid boring draws and the matches will be exciting. There should be a monetary award for curators when the match ends with a win.
The current punishment for slow over-rates are not enough. There should be extra run for the batting team if the other team goes for slow over-rates. Let's say it could be 10 extra runs for each over that is missed out. If ICC does these regulations then we can see much improved audience for test matches.

Can a test match be played under lights? Can the red cherry be seen clearly with artificial lights? Will this lead to a change to white balls in test cricket too? I think they change the white balls in an ODI after about 35 overs. Will the same be applied for test matches too if they are played under lights? Plenty to be looked into before they really switch to day-night test matches.....

give more rest to senior umpires & get best out of them
by sachin kulkarni on Jun 25, 2009 05:21 PM  | Hide replies

Most of umpires also are tired by overkill of cricket & so mistakes are there . either give good umpires good rest or produce more simon tuffels . technology will take the charm out of cricket . Just remember how interesting it was to see bucknor delaying his decision & then his nod or still how Rudy courtzen gives slow death to batsmens . ICC has some stupid travelling rules which are not accepted by good umpires & so they opt out . Umpires like Piter willey & more . so insted of making everything machenical keep human sources alive .Teams still win against all odds . Umpiring never contributes to each & every loss or win .

You should remember what happened during Ind Vs Aus test match in Australia. How many mistakes happened in that Sydney test. Not able to digest that much human error. Why you need to live with error if there is a way to correct it. Two minus will not make one plus. Let us welcome the technlogy which can atleast reduce the error if not fully error-free.

Element of Surprise and Human factor should not be at the cost of match. We already witnessed what happens with some humans when they umpire for India like Steve Bucknor. The matches should be won by players not by the wrong decisions given by the umpires. Players and the playing conditions everything is still natural. Lets appreciate the new referral system which can atleast reduce the errors. We are only minimising the errors made by humans. Error correction is not unnatural.
