Amarnath blames IPL for India's WT20 debacle
by cajetan coelho on Jul 09, 2009 10:35 PM

Playing for the country as a team requires additional preparation than just playing for the club. Players need to spend more time together when they go out on a mission as big as representing one's Motherland.

IPL

Nothing wrong with IPL as it gives opportunity to lot of players and some serious money too. But they have made it too lengthy by playing twice against each other. It runs longer than the ODI world cup. They should wrap the tournament like the ICC T20 world cup.

WC T20
by krishna Kumar on Jun 23, 2009 05:29 PM

I don’t want to blame IPL for the flop show of WC T20 Indian team. Because, IPL matches itself is a practicing and learning for all players. I believe that the main purpose of IPL is the make a mixed learning centre of different caliber of cricketers from world wide. So how can we say that team didn’t get sufficient time for practicing.

I believe that lack of leadership. There is a need to encourage and energize the players timely and properly. I also believe, they didn’t get it from captain and coach as much as they needed.

IPL Debacle
by ashish sharma on Jun 23, 2009 02:47 PM

Its not only IPL which has pushed India on back seat in T20 worldcup. It was India's hectic schedule where India is playing cricket for long time. They required a break during IPL to rejenuvate themself and then reunit for T20 worldcup clash. But instead they preferred IPL and aggrevate their tireness which even added injuries.

India should not be play too much. Atleast in a year a break of 4-5months is required in intervals.

Watch out for India's performance during ICC mini worldcup, India will be back after long break and players would be fresh.

Please BCCI enough of 20-20, Dont organise IPL atleast till 2011 world cup or else give necessary break to the players during this 2 years.

What he said is right. Our cricketers do not bother to lost their T20 title. BECAUSE THEY GOT CRORES OF MONEY FROM IPL. So why they are playing for Nation. It is only for Money.

MOENY CAN SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEM.

Amarnath and Garry are 100 percent correct
by Michael DSa on Jun 23, 2009 01:04 PM  | Hide replies

It is only IPL which made our players tired and left them without any motivation, desire and drive to achieve the T20 cup. Now the fact remains for all of us to see that the final was won by a team whose players did not play for this years IPL. Pakistani players were fresh, determined, united and played with lot of passion. This is the only reason one of the weakest team could win this years T20. Anybody any questions??

Vishwanath either you need to get your head examined or you have zero knowledge of India's cricket history. Mohinder scored 1000 runs and 5 centuries in 11 tests in 1982-83 season in Pakistan and West Indies facing upto Imran, Sarfaraz, Holding, Marshall and Andy Roberts. Even Gavaskar could not match this performance.

'What separated Jimmy from the others,' Michael Holding said, 'was his great ability to withstand pain . . . A fast bowler knows when a batsman is in pain. But Jimmy would stand up and continue.' " [3]

In the Bridgetown Test during India's tour of the West Indies in 1982-83, Amarnath had to retire for stitches after being hit on the head. On returning to the game, he faced one of history's most lethal fast bowlers Michael Holding. It was a given that Holding would try to intimidate Amarnath by bowling a bouncer, and indeed he did so. While most would expect that a batsman in such a situation would do the prudent thing and duck, instead Amarnath stood his ground and hooked the ball to the boundary. However the West Indies bowling attack would wreak their most lethal vengeance upon Amarnath during their 1983/84 tour of India by restricting him to only 1 run in six innings, during which Marshall scalped Amarnath three times for a duck.

Amarnath was noted for his conflicts with the Indian cricketing political establishment, famously having called the selectors a "bunch of jokers" [4]. This often resulted in his exclusion from the Indian team also.

Shows how much you know about Indian cricket history. He was one of the most consistent against fast, short-pitched bowling.

Vishwanath, lets check your GK in cricket...

Who was the man of the match in the world cup india won in 1983?... I know you don't know the answer.. Its Mohinder Amarnath

Why he won .... because he score 26 runs and took 3 wickets

He was awarded "Man of the Match" in the finals and semi-finals, having led India to their first ever one-day international title.

In his "Idols", Sunil Gavaskar described Mohinder Amarnath as the finest batsman in the world.

Imran Khan regarded Mohinder so highly that in his "All Round View" he went on record to say that in the 1982-83 season, Mohinder was quite simply the best batsman in the world.

Amarnath was noted for his personality, courage and determination. West Indian cricketing great Vivian Richards called him "one of the nicest men to have ever played the game" and former Australian Test opening batsman David Boon said "Concede didn't seem to be in his vocabulary" [2].

Gideon Haigh writing in The Age says: "In an era replete with fast bowling and unrestricted in use of the bouncer, he never stopped hooking - despite many incentives to do so. He received a hairline fracture of the skull from Richard Hadlee, was knocked unconscious by Imran Khan, had teeth knocked out by Malcolm Marshall and was hit in the jaw so painfully by Jeff Thomson in Perth that he could eat only ice cream for lunch.
