ICL VS IPL,
by uknowit on Jun 03, 2009 10:05 AM  | Hide replies

I pity Subash chandra, he might have copied the idea, worked to start his own sports channel, but yet the rise of hight profile IPL is the cause of subhas chandra's ICL. BCCI is cricket mafia, they have sabotaged the game of cricket. even BCCI is non govt, so how can a non govt body sabotage other body, lalit modi have done injustice to the game of cricket, he or BBCI are the uncrowned discators of Cricket, and I pity indian Govt, be it UPA. NDA, they dont dare to tell BCCI, to become a govt body and team india as Indian cricket team, representing INDIA not BCCI.

Shame on indian govt

I agree with you. You cannot be rebellious in sensitive issues. ICL was never accepted by people of India. Any match will lose its sheen if INDIA tag is missing. But it should be remembered that only because of ICL, IPL was formed and IPL has been successful for TWO years. It is high time that people realize that they should never support any rebels, be it cricket or country. It is also requested that the former ICL players are treated with dignity and they feel comfortable on their return to home teams. Congrats BCCI. WE love you and support you for this great stroke.

Who told you ICL was never accepted by people of India. Lets face it ICL was a hit untill IPL arrived and it had it's own flavour of competitiveness. Zee sports made record TRP while these matches were own only to be downsized by Sony and IPL. But dont tell me it was not a hit. Bars, resturants, hospitals showrooms everywhere people enjoyed and watched and cheered their respective teams. Lets face it ICL braught new concepts of cricket league to Indian public before IPL took over the craze.

ICL Players Return to BCCI
by Hiten Sheth on Jun 03, 2009 09:06 AM  | Hide replies

The reason for ICL players returning to BCCI lies with the inefficiency of ICL. It was launched in 2007. All the players playing in it were banned from playing any international or domestic cricket for their countries. Their careers came in danger.

Since then ICL kept on saying that it would take legal action against BCCI and ICC. ICL just kept on barking that they would take legal actions to rescue the careers of affected players. But they never bite and took any action. even to play in domestic cricket, these players had to fight their cases individually in their countries.

Kapil dev, kiran more and Zee are responsible for spoiling the careers of these cricketers for 2 years. Only achivement of ICL is that because of it, IPL was borne. Now every cricketer in the world dreams to play for IPL.

Need to control leagues
by shantanu on Jun 03, 2009 09:05 AM

The BCCI infact saved world cricket, such leagues need to b controlled,in a country like India with so many millionaires almost every guy could start a league, and test cricket and international cricket would suffer. Its very important to contol such leagues, how many more international players could have quit for money. The IPL saved test cricket, with sa-aus-nz having one league,it satisfies their domestic players.it all needs to be done in a controlled manner.Kapil Dev is sum1 we respect and love, but he shouldnt take us for granted thinking we r dumb.He was given every important post in the BCCI,right from chairman of NCA to help younger cricketers,he was even put on committee to make sure we made good pitches i believe,to being the coach of the indian cricket team, wat else did he want?? i believe he wanted to b the BCCI President which led him to the ICL.Yeah dude u won us the world cup,u r the best we ever produced, but we love the INDIAN CRICKET TEAM AND INDIA more than u.

I congratulate BCCI for granting amnesty to the ICL players. what a masterstroke! In one stroke , BCCI has finished ICL and at the same time given players a chance to play in IPL from 2010 onwards. ICL was more like Indian Comedy league which benefited players from bangaladesh and pakistan more.Congratulations to Modi and BCCI for the outstanding success of IPL1 , IPL2 which is modelled on the English Premier League. Long live Modi , Long live IPL, Long live BCCI , Long live India . Jai Hind

ICL deserves it
by shantanu on Jun 03, 2009 08:46 AM  | Hide replies

The sole purpose of starting the ICL was television rights,if he really cares so much about indian sport he should have invested in hockey, shooting, wrestling, boxing. The reason he came to cricket was just MONEY.Young boys who play on the domestic circuit were lured with money reducing the talent pool which hurts the indian team.Where was ZEE when cricket in india didnt have the money?? The BCCI stood by its players in the toughest times right from the beginning, since 1995 it was freed from doordarshan and made money which it pours in the pockets of players, bigger stadiums, better payments in domestic games.Name another sporting body that cares about its players?? We pay crores to sportsmen when they win olympic medals, but dont give them the money when they need it to prepare for the olympics,if u say other sports have no sponsors, remember sumthing the GOVERNMENT is the biggest sponsor, boxers had to plead to force the sports ministry to send trainers with them to beijing, wrestlers were not given messuers, thats the condition of sports in our country.BCCI being a pvt organisation is showing others how its done, yes they have their faults, but atleast they do a better job then most sporting bodies in this country.Dhanraj kicked out unceremoniously, resquinha quits cuz of bad treatment, jugraj still not making it to the team,P.T.Usha begging for a synthetic running tracks for her academy,Rooms for the womens hockey team are dirty and filthy ,stink of piss.BCCI is far better.

SHAME on Lalit Modi........
by Guest on Jun 03, 2009 06:44 AM  | Hide replies

It is very shameful and bad to imitate the concept of others. First ICL was kicked off n then this man got an idea of making an IPL. He did it and it was a huge it. But as everybody knows bollywood producers/directors even copy n paste the complete movies, why not cricket's concept? Shame on Lalit Modi, because he has cheat the ICL and imitated the whole concept.

SHAME on ICL which promoted chaddi cricket to such an extent. IPL was started just to ensure that players have official cricket to bank on rather than fall prey for private leagues who care for nothing but money. ICL has not even paid salary to the players, what a SHAME.

SHAME ON BCCI...Please read this...
by supernova on Jun 03, 2009 05:33 AM  | Hide replies

How many of us know that the concept of 20-20 in India was first started by ICL /Subhash Chandra. he took lots of pain and spent his OWN money to float ICL. he visualised and designed it.. Then came the dirty cheat called Modi with his BCCI team... By sheer money power that they have courtesy the BCCI and the political clot of sharad pawar, they sunk ICL and copied the whole concept of ICL into IPL... Friends, this is the game of deceit.. it is a cheating cocnept of making money.. There r no freinds..only cheats...instead of talking with ICL and Subhash Chandra and bringing him together crediting him with the effor the had put in into the game, they kicked him out with the big money they had made courtesy the Indian cricket lovers.... This is INDIA....

ICL was copied from English County, which started 20/20 concept way back in 2003 you moron. Both Subhash and Modi just tried to make use of it against foolish Indian public.

BCCI is a private body. When we play test cricket, One day matches, isn't the team representing BCCI rather than India.

Indian government should auction the license to use and play as Indian team. Anybody like BCCI, ICL, Ambani, Tata, can bid and own the Indian team when they play the international matches. Just like SRK owns Kolkatta after paying 300 Crores, a bidder can own the Indian team after winning the bid. Right now, BCCI is making all the money by using Indian team and not paying a penny to the Indian coffers. They seem to have acquired the rights for free and earn huge advertisement money.

First understand the difference between a private body and private company you fool. BCCI can use the money only to promote cricket in India whereas money earned by private company through leagues like ICL goes to individual owners like Subhash Chandra who can later convert ICL into a reality show Dance competition if it fetches more money.

NO the concept was visualised and designed by lalit modi.It was put on the table sumwhere arount 1998 or 2000,it was bought up again and again but certain officials didnt think it would work. The Icl just picked it from there and they agree the fact that lalit modi had designed it.Get ya facts right.

The concept of 20-20 was started way back in England and the idea was already used by other country boards. Mr. Subhash Chandra did not take any pain, he also copied the idea and he wanted a revenge from BCCI on TV rights. He thought he can become the next Kerry Packer of India. He just wanted 2 start sports channel for that he wanted a cricket league. You simply can't blame one. Both Mr. Modi & Mr. Chandra are commercial people, both of them want to make money and you will and I will do the same. Its big Commerial World my dear. So Be practical

i was talking about the concept of foreign players playing in a domestic league, lalit wanted one based on the epl,not the twenty twenty format,in those days they wanted to start a one day league, its important for commercial ppl to b in sport cuz it helps the players ultimately.
