restricted overs test matches
by jess on Jul 20, 2009 02:37 PM  | Hide replies

hello all

Instead of 20-20 test matches why not think of a restricted maximum 90 overs first innings and an unrestricted number of overs of second innings, test match? this will remove boredom and will have results. i think this is the real future for test matches.

No fun as it would be a substitute for extended ODI Format.

It is inevitable that tests will die their natural death. In this fast paced world there will be very few who have the time to watch cricket for 1 whole day leave alone 5. And T20 has the perfect duration of around 3 hours. The sooner ICC recognises and puts tests and ODI's on a back burner, the better.

who says test matches were anyway killing cricket?? all those who think T20 is the best form of cricket dont really know the game and care only about seeing sixers hit. Cricket is much more than thumping every ball beyond the boundary. Those who dont understand it will not understand test cricket.

Give the bowlers a green top and IPL would turn out to be a flop show. People can make out the difference between the likes of Dravids and the Rainas, Dhonis, Yuvrajs.

yeah right. katrina will shake her hips and shilpa 'shitty' shetty will do other nonsense and that zinta fool will act thinking it is another movie that is being shot.

this is what is T20 for you. these people think they can make cricket similar to another bollywood show. bl##dy idi#ts. do we have to watch these people make a mockery of our beloved game? Kick them all out and kick T20 out.

just becuase the aussies have not put their hands on the T20 WC these comments are bound to come from the players down under!!
I am surprised because the current Ashes has already attracted a record crowd this year!
this is another tale of sour grapes !!

Also, IPLs success has been so popular that Aussies are fearing their own domestic leagues will be bit the dust. Your comment has a point that when Aussies are not winning much of matches in T20, they say T20 is not good for Test cricket.

MK:

Current Ashes will attract a crowd - coz only Australia and England attract spectators for Test Cricket.....
If you read the article you'll get some glimpses into his reasoning....

e.g.: ICC has raised concerns over dwindling popularity of Test cricket over poor crowd figures during Australia's tour of India....

BTW, you are free to say what you want to about T20 WC and Australians.... but MCC has come out with more or less similar statements....

Anyway, now that the Kerry Packer circus and the Zee circus ICL is in dumps, lets wait and see how many seasons can Lalit Modi extract out of the singing and dancing ladies during the match breaks....

I dont think that IPL will suffer the same fate as ICL. The main reason is that IPL has the backing of BCCI, which ICL did not have. And BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world. They have the finances to support the IPL for a long time to come.
As far as Kerry Packer's World Series is concerned, it did not go to the dumps. It almost sent the Australian Board to the dumps. And releaszing this ACB made a compramise with Packer.

I agree with Ian Chappel partially though.
by sachin Marathe on Jul 20, 2009 01:14 PM

The solution is to reduce the number of matches whether T20, ODI or Tests. Its been observed now that the number of ODIs and T20s being played is huge compared to Tests. Also IPL is one megaevent which has proved in South Africa as well. There should be a balance between all three formats of the game. Though I dont agree with ICC that except Australia and England the veiwing in other countries is lucrative for Tests.

Ian,

There is only one thing constant. And that is change!.

Earlier one dayers were 60 overs. Each overs were of 8 balls. There used to be a rest day in a test match. Test matches earlier used to last any number of days till the result came. There was no third umpire. All that changed. Still, this sport is popular.

Test cricket might die, so be it. Cricket won't.

Clear Ian?

Aussie dominance killed tests & ODI
by Chat on Jul 20, 2009 01:02 PM  | Hide replies

Aussie dominance in tests & ODi's for last 15 years has killed the interest of cricket lovers & thts y T20 was found to be popular. In T20 Aussies can be beaten easily & tht is the reason more n more of spectators watch T20 instead of tests or ODI's.
