by Bob Rai on Jul 16, 2009 05:11 PM  | Hide replies

MC always had that nose in the air feeling about being the only ones in the world who had counties and now IPL has literally stolen all the big wigs in the cricket world.
IPL is pouring money like rain and now it is Brown supremacy time and whites have to stand like sheeps to be auctioned

Reservations.....
by Krishna on Jul 16, 2009 04:02 PM  | Hide replies

With government trying to implement reservations in private sector, why not have reservations in the Indian cricket team. 2 players from the Majority and out of the rest 2 players from the minorities, 2 from OBC, 2 from handicapped, 2 from the non-mainstream(Homos, eunuchs etc) and so on....

With this Indian Cricket team will be truly well represented. DO the Indian public support this?

I believe we need to put some penalty of slow run rate for a normal pitch and ensure the boredom is reduced due to defensive play. With the time, test cricket approach also needs some change and more aggresiveness need to be brought in.

Fast-food generation.
by Kabothi Kumar on Jul 16, 2009 11:52 AM  | Hide replies

We're living in the twitter, drive-through fast food generation. 20-20 will also seem tooo long by the year 2020.

Which other game takes 5 days and still have a no-result? It's good for the 1950s, not 2000s. Sorry ;-)

Right and shorter faster version will definitely attract more countries to play cricket,i live in a non cricketing nation and its hard to make ppl understand here how cricket is played and so on,two innings, terminology etc etc,20-20 is a great idea. Now we have to decide that we want 12 nation to play cricket or 100 to join us.

Test Cricket revival
by Guest on Jul 16, 2009 07:52 AM  | Hide replies

How about some performance based points/ payments for Test cricket such as individuals scoring 50 or 100 runs, taking 5 wickets or more, for taking a brilliant catch, hitting the stumps with a direct throw from afar, taking the first innings lead, bowling over max number of maidens (pun intended)etc. etc. Anything to keep the players motivated to give off their best and for crowds to cheer and feel involved at crucial times. Cutting down on the number of days would also help as well as the night timings. Think out of the box and come up with ideas and ideas though they may appear ridiculous at first glance.

a) Have a mixed team of men & women for each team
b) Have 3-Day Test Match: Each innings a max of 60 Overs
c) Field your best fielders and your best bowlers while fileding and play the best batsmen while batting: Could be 20 odd players in a team but with only 11 playing at any time.
4) Have varying fun-events at the sides between overs
5) Have lucky draws for spectators by selecting seat numbers at randon

Death to Test cricket
by Guest on Jul 16, 2009 06:22 AM  | Hide replies

As cricket fans we just want entertainment that too in a short span of time with a result. Test cricket may be pinnacle to all the players, because it tests their temperament etc etc but it also tests fan's patience too. I mean people just just have to spare 1 week's job to watch just one game of test cricket that is fricking ridiculous.

I was quite amused when it was proposed to have day and night test matches to attract crowds! People would come to watch test matches only if it entertaining and not simply because it is held after office hours. Would anybody want to waste their time and watch a test match if teams score a snails pace at around 240 runs a day? If we look at the way the aussies played test cricket when they had gilly, hayden and co, these guys played aggressively and scored around 350 runs a day, still went on to win matches galore for their country. Teams need to play like that to bring in crowds and not imagine that by holding day and night matches, crowds would flock to stadium! How many teams play like that nowadays?

5 day Test Cricket - Too Long
by Patriot on Jul 16, 2009 06:10 AM

First I would like to tell Test cricket when compared to others forms is truly amazing. Given result oriented pitches like Perth in Australia, Test Cricket can still survive. But how many pitches are like Perth?

In a world where everything is done in a hurry due to competition and people don't find time for themselves, where can afford to watch / visit a Cricket game being played 5 days?

Classic example is until 1980's wedding used to be a 3 day affair with relatives, friends taking time off and enjoying the whole event. Today due to cost factors and work everyone wants to wind off in 1 day and even the attendees plan 2 or 3 hours to be there and get back to work.

So why would someone say T20 is killing Test Cricket? Unless the ICC, BCCI had gotten creative, this game would not have survived. T20 has made the cricketers even think why the hell we need to stand there 5 days when they can make money in short games and get deserved rest and play another short game.

we will continue to admire Test cricket like how we admire 3 day weddings og 1980's and before. But can we afford it? No...So 5 day Cricket also has to slowly be phased out and made into 3 day and 1 innings and add some rules for batsment to score quickly and make win or loss decision exciting. This will prolong the death but still not keep Test Cricket alive.

IPL is worse man
by sravan nayak on Jul 16, 2009 05:37 AM

IPL has only advantage that more players are involved and hence more players will get more money. It has no other advantage. It is making the game money oriented.Nothing else.

It should be played as a state competition, not to involve all international players and cutting the international schedule sothat only state players will get money also.
