Let us not compare Sachin and Ponting. They both are greats in their own ways. Both have debuted in international cricket at early age and were able to stay on top for long. Ponting will one day overtake Sachin in terms of runs and centuries. But its not right to say that Ponting's centuries were useful and Sachin's were waste. Every cricketer scores for his country hoping that his effort turns out into victory for his team. But whether that turn out into victory depends on many other factors including the performance of other players especially your bowlers. In that count, Ponting was lucky that his team always had better bowlers in their ranks. We could boast of such bowlers only recently. So in my view, Sachin, Lara and Ponting are all geniuses in modern day cricket, lets not ditch one in favor of others.
GUys don't forget..u guys are boasting soo much about the cranky ponting who has won some matches by cheating..remember sydney test...u sayin ponting is better than sachin...dont u remember in the early 90's it was only sachin who used to play innings in almost every match whereas the likes of sidhus, azhars, manjrekars, wud be watchin...He has played some great innings which is why he is a leading run getter..he's not played under arm matches to get those records..he was and always be the master..

undisputable .....today the king is "ricky ponting" dear all, as I have always maintained that ricky ponting is the best batsmen in the world, infact better then sachin tendulkar any time, there is no denying this fact, also he has never played to create record for himself but rather played for the country, he is by far the most dependable test match batsmen ever in the world and he will surely surpass the gr8 sachin too within a year or two the way he has been playing looks to me that still minimum 4 years of full cricket is left within him that makes at 10 test matches / year minimum = 40 test matches still to go and he will surely get 12 hundreds of those 40 test matches which brings him to 52 hundreds and this then will be a world record set and for atleast 2-3 decades wont be breakable so, guys wish ricky all the best and may he succeed in getting 52 hundreds and a test average of not less then 56.99 may the Gr8 almighty bless him and us also above all he is a delight to watch like tendulkar, but he is more dependable and a bigger match winner then tendulkar always, hence "RICKY PONTING IS THE BEST OF THE REST IN THE WORLD" & "NOBODY WILL MATCH HIS FINAL TALLY WHEN HE RETIRES FOR ATLEAST 2-3 DECADES" dear all i agree that Sachin was no.01 but off late is losing infact has lost his place to ricky, now as on date no dispute regar

Yes i agree with you.There is a charm in his shots unlike sachin whose batting looks like the expression less face of sunil sethi.His front foot pull is a treat to watch.

If your heart beats are clocking fast when Murli , Alan Donald, Shoaib, Warne etc are bowling or if you feel that your supported batsman should stand at non striker end(may be Ponting or Sachin), then the player you are advocating is not trustworthy in terms of consistency.
He has been a bigger match winner and a better player for Australia than Sachin has been for India. Unlike Indians who are only concerned about statistics this player has always looked for winning rather than personal achievements. We can ridicule him for sledging and off field behaviour but still he is one of the all time unselfish greats.

That is the way the aussies play the game. They play to win and rarely for personal records unlike us. But, it is in our mindset where personal achievements override everything else. If u see the several sports sites before a match, it would be full of how many runs a guy has to score to achieve a milestone, how many centuries he has scored, how many 50's one has scored. I remember once my very close relative was so angry when dravid declared an innings scored when sachin was nearing his double hundred against the pak, he refused to watch the match although we won the same. What is mean is, it is inherent in our nature to give importance to personal goals and statistics than a victory. There is lies the problem and it is not going to change in a hurry.

true mr. raman, he sure has a great winning innings. that is the only reason that sachin tendulkar with a dubious record has not won the wisden cricketer award which is awarded for match winning performance, dravid and laxman have won it..but sachin is a grea player
