Umpires must use some protection.. and ICC should use 2 pairs of umpires (total 4 field umpires) for ODI's and tests. So that they can shift after 25 overs in ODI and after each session in tests.
Raman Lamba's case was a brain Dead which could be a due to blood clot in blood vessel which avoids flow of blood ...this was not identified by doctors....here is a process to identify the stroke...so whenever someone has a serious head injury this is the best process to know if thr is a clot..
BLOOD CLOT STROKE:
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S *Ask the individual to SMILE. T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today..) R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue
NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

yeah nothing wrong in doing so....it doesnt hurt the game neither the umpire...so many times when umpiring against batsmans like sehwag, pathan, afridi who play straight shots where the reaction time is too little they are in a danger of life....

rightly said then our cricketers will have more time to spend with their family and u and me will have more time to spend for useful work
Instead of playing Cricket with Cork / Hard balls, it can be played with Tennis balls. The burden on the batsmen like pad, gloves, helmet, inner guard can totally be avoided.

Raman lamba while playing in Bangladesh was killed when the ball hit his head. One spectator was killed when Sandeep patil hit six during his days. And now the umpire.

Only two other cricketers are known to have died as a result of on-field injuries in a first-class fixture. Both were hit while batting: George Summers of Nottinghamshire on the head at Lord's in 1870; and Abdul Aziz, the Karachi wicket-keeper, over the heart in the 1958-59 Quaid-e-Azam final. The last first-class cricketer to die after being hit in any match was Ian Folley of Lancashire, playing for Whitehaven in 1993

The point is most youngsters do not go t professional cricket because of the monopoly of the hard ball.
Remove that from a major cricket league and see the huge amount people that will come running to this new sport.
Our Govt and ministers are taking a very lukewarm approach to this literally game-changing idea. It was suggested many times by many people but an idea is useless till its time has come. Then it becomes priceless. But till its time has come the poor all across the country have to wait in poverty.

yeah, I agree, also no need for big stadiums, it can be played in a tennis court, players has to really hit hard in big stadiums. :P. Big stadiums can be used for statues of our leaders.
He went back to the dressing room but felt uneasy in 10 minutes time..... He was shifted to a local clinic and the ignorant doctor underestimated the extent of the injury and gave him some medication to control the concussion and headache...
But Lamba's condition worsened at night and he sufered from projectile vomiting thrice...realizing the gravity of the injury, his friend Sanjeev Sharma shifted him to Dhaka genenral hospital...while in the ambulanc, he aspirated his own vomitus and his lungs were flooded with vomiting.... He had epeated convulsions and vomiting until he finally slipped into a coma.....
The doctors operating on him realized that he was brain dead and nothing could be done to save his life.....the cricket ball is a killer and umpires should start wearing non grill helmets to avert such tragedies in future.....

Bangladeshis could be the most incompetent people around. Most of them are migrants to the gulf countries and they never progress beyond being brawny construction workers or domestic helps. Completely low on skills that require them to think. Only one word to describe them: incompetent.
Raman Lamba was standing at forward shortleg without a helmet.....as left arm spinner Saifullah Khan was about to bowl the last ball of his over, umpire Ashoka D Silva walked upto Lamba and advised him to wear a helmet.....Lamba laughed and said that only one ball in the over was left and he would ask for a helmet at the end of the over.....
Left arm spinner Saifullah Khan dropped the ball short and batsman Mehrab Hossain Opee went for a ferocious pull...the ball caught Lamba square on his left temple and rebounded of his head and the rebound catch was taken by the wicketkeeper running towards point...such was the ferocity of the blow..Lamba collapsed but recovered in a couple of minutes and walked back to the dressing room, the whole ground swimming in front of him.....
As he walked back to the dressing room, the incoming batsman asked him about his condition...to which Lamba said " Bulli, main toh mar gaya" as if he had premonition of what was to come...

Bangladeshi doctors are as bad as quacks... They are incompetant to treat even headache and stomachaches.. Lamba's untimely death was due to medical negligance. The attending doctor was unable to detect his grave condition.
