gap
by tushar ahuja on Jul 06, 2009 05:17 PM

there should be a cup, world cup should not happen after every 10 months ,there should be a gap of atleast 2-4 yrs. it look like ICC is now totally focus on money rather than developement of cricket in other countries , in 1990 there was only 8 team who was playing Test matches now there r only 9 team (Bangladesh has added which is good for nothing).

What is that drives ICC?
by Orient Mystique on Jul 06, 2009 08:37 AM

Is it stupidity - overdose of cricket and kill the interest in the sports?

Is it greed for more and more money? For what, in any case?

If there is any sanity left in the ICC governing board, the proposed T20 WC in 2010 should be scrapped right away. Let there be two major ICC events every alternate year - ODI WC in 2011, 2015, 2019 etc and T20 WC in 2013, 2017, 2021 etc.

Also, Champions Trophy is a joke as pointed out by Shane Warne and needs to be scrapped.

Really, nowadays there is an overdose of cricket - there is Pakistan playing in Srilanka, Bangladesh going on a tour of West Indies, Australia playing England in Ashes Test series, NZ, SL and India scheduled to play a Triseries in SL, there is then Zimbabwe playing India, also Champions Trophy coming up in September (or is it October?).....

what a shame? dhoni wins the toss and decides to field..great? but also announces the same squad, those 2 day friends of his rohit and ishant are again in the playing 11 and take my word, today we are set to be clobbered because of these 2 jerks in the team...!!

I am not sure if we will get clobbered but Dhoni's selection policy smacks of favoritism. Rohit Sharma reminds me of Ajit Agarkar. I cannot remember the last time he performed and yet his place in the side can be taken for granted. What kind of a message is this sending out to the youngsters? If Badrinath and Vijay were not going to play even when someone is not scoring, what was the point of selecting them in the first place?

What about RP.
he is dhoni best friend.
Even yuvi had luxury to play as many matches he wanted in Australia even without performance.
dhobi is laloo of cricket & don't expect professionalism from him as long as he is winiing by luck/manipulation. his only aim is to keep his captaincy intact & do as many aDDs as possible

good question, we know so little about azimbabwe cricket these days and i dont see why sport suffers due to one or the other political reason. this man mugabe has really ruined zimbabwe cricket also, otherwise, it was a force to be reckoned with...what a shame? feel sad for the budding talent out there

It is because of Mugabe govt. and his dectatorship. Most of the countries, under UN are not accepting his govt. and impose sanction. UK govt. does nt support Mugabe govt, and if u remember in 2003 world cup in SA, England and Aus did not travel Zimbabwe. This time England govt. did not permit visa to Zimbabwe player to enter into England, so by virtue of that Scotland got the opportunity to participate last world cup. But Carribean countries permit Zimbabwe to take part this coming world cup. You won't believe in Zimbabwe , 1 USD = 1 million Zimbabwe currency due to high inflation and economy down turn.

Month ZWR per 1 USD
Sept 2008 1,000
Oct 2008 90,000
Nov 2008 1,200,000
Mid Dec 2008 60,000,000
End Dec 2008 2,000,000,000
Mid Jan 2009 1,000,000,000,000
2 Feb 2009 300,000,000,000,000

In 1980, At the time of its introduction, the Zimbabwean dollar was worth more than the U.S. dollar, with ZWD 1 = USD 1.47. However, the currency's value eroded rapidly over the years. On 26 July 2006, the parallel market value of the Zimbabwean dollar fell to one million to the British pound. The new dollar is subdivided into 100 cents, although cents are not used in practice. Together with the redenomination, the government devalued the dollar by 60% vs. the US dollar (see exchange rate history table above), from 101,000 old dollars (101 revalued) to 250 revalued dollars.

Now, you please know the world economy before you point on my comment. In 2009, it has further devalued and at present one 1 USD is equal to 435 million ZWD, and what you see in exchange rate that is called 3 dollar ( tha means you need to add 12 zero at the right). So, now you got the idea about the denomination and devaluation of Zimbabwe currency.

Notice: The Zimbabwe government redenominated the ZWD again on February 2, 2009 at a rate of 1,000,000,000,000 old ZWD to 1 new ZWD.

Further to my above details abt Zimbabwe inflation, here are the few details :

a loaf of bread, which cost about Z$15 million before the polls, now costs about Z$600 million.

A two-litre bottle of cooking oil costs about Z$5 billion, almost equal to an average low-income worker's monthly wage, piling the misery on a country also grappling with food, fuel, water and electricity shortages, 80 percent unemployment and hyperinflation.

Official figures put Zimbabwe's annual inflation -- the highest in the world -- at 165,000 percent in February, but analysts say the figure vaulted as high as 1.8 million percent by May.

Now, in June Zimbabwean dollar ZWD = at between 995 million and 1.45 billion against 1 USD.
