I just don't understand this sycophancy......even i'am a Congress supporter...not that i love Congress but i just hate the mentality of the left, the BJP and Maya.....
But such decisions taken by the congress just amount to sycophancy of the worst kind....and as Kavita rightly pointed out, there is absolutely no need to play politics over an infrastructure project....there was no need to name it!! Isn't "The Bandra Worli sealink" a good enough name????
Re: Re: Re: K
by The King on Jul 01, 2009 12:52 PM
I m not sure if Rajiv Gandhi has any achievements! really the bridge should have been bandra-worli sealink only or it should be on the name of some freedom fighter except takluji..
Re: Re: K
by kavita kulkarni on Jul 01, 2009 12:37 PM
is it necessary to give names to bridges? what it does is just create controversies...if we give it a politicians name, the oppositions will protest, if we give name of a freedom fighter, people will fight on the name of regionalism.... i mean cant we just call it Bandra Worli sea link (BWSL)???
Re: Re: Re: K
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Jul 01, 2009 12:43 PM
Freedom fighter name is better cos politicians can't begrude that naming...it is above political parties....but naming a bridge on a politician's name will create a ruckus and is in any way in bad taste...there is no rationale for naming the Bandra Worli sealink as Rajiv Gandhi sealink......
Re: Re: Re: Re: K
by kavita kulkarni on Jul 01, 2009 12:48 PM
but people are not mature enough to understand this... marathis will say Shivaji, Savarkar, Tilak whereas gujjus will say vallabhbhai patel, gandhiji and others would say Lal Bahadur shastri, pandit nehru, indira gandhi etc... i really dont feel the need to name bridges at all.... BWSL is good enough

The old Vashi bridge gave way in less than 10 years time and was declared unsafe...let us see how miuch this lasts...Indian construction companies don't have great experience in building transharbor sea links......
Otherwise Ponting will claim one bounce catches and Australia will never get LBWs against them...LOL...recall India series in australia in 2003/2004....how Bucknor raaped India!!
Re: I hope Bucknor is not the umpire.......
by kavita kulkarni on Jul 01, 2009 12:06 PM
he has already retired from test cricket... Simon Tauffel cant stand, so the best would be Aleem Dar and Rudi koertzen
Re: Re: I hope Bucknor is not the umpire.......
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Jul 01, 2009 12:08 PM
Oh he has retired???? Thats great news!! Aleem Dar, Rudi, Billy Bowden....best umpires in world...
Re: Re: Re: I hope Bucknor is not the umpire.......
by kavita kulkarni on Jul 01, 2009 12:11 PM
i fell Billy Bowden is a typical new zealand umpire who crumbles when pressurized... his LBW decisions are horrible
Re: Re: Re: Re: I hope Bucknor is not the umpire.......
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Jul 01, 2009 12:15 PM
He does not crumble....NZ umpires are very conservative when it comes to LBW decision making.....unless he is 100% sure that the ball would crash into stumps, he does not give an LBW.....but he is consistent and thats what matters...unlike that loser Bucknor who would quickly give an LBW decision against India but hesitate to give even plumb LBWs to opposition batsmen..
One more superb umpire is Asad Rauf but he is a known risk taker....ives even marginal decisions in favor of bowlers....

Bucknor was reviled not because he made mistakes. All umpires have made mistakes. Even Simon Taufel made a mistake in the India England series of 2007 when he gave Sachin Tendulkar out wrongly. But he was humble enough to say that he made a mistake. Umpires are human; lets grant them that. Bucknor had pretty long history of poor decisions. Right back in 1992 in the India South Africa series,he refused to refer a run-out to the 3rd umpire. Replays showed Jonty Rhodes was out, he used this life to save South Africa. There were other bad decisions. Never was he seen to regret it.He made a very rude gesture to Rahul Dravid during the 2003-04 Triangular in Australia, something he should not have done as umpire. We all know the farce of the 2007 World Cup. By the India-Aussie series, Bucknor was a disaster waiting to happen. He destroyed a superb Test match with excellent play by both sides with his horrendous umpiring; he and Symonds ensured that Sydney would be remembered for all the wrong reasons. For him to blame India and Indians is naive;by then it must have been apparent even to him that his time was up.He could have got into one of those ICC committees and made money. Instead he ended up embarassing himself and the ICC. The beauty is the man seems to be unfazed by all his howlers

Raj Arora, You have disappeared after Aussies got knocked out in first round of T20...hahaha, could not even qualify for the super 8s.....what losers maan!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I hope Bucknor is not the umpire.......
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Jul 01, 2009 12:22 PM
I remember atleast 5 ocassions where he was blatantly unfair with India......and only one ocassion where he gave a decision in favor of India.....
He had some grudge against some Indian players like Yuvraj and Sehwag and he has admitted that in his autobiography.....
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I hope Bucknor is not the umpire.......
by kavita kulkarni on Jul 01, 2009 12:20 PM
its not right to call Bucknor a loser just on the basis of 1 series... he has been serving this game so well and for so many years... i agree he lost the plot during the Ind-Aus series but other than that, he has been a fair referee....

Re: Re: I think England will win Ashes......
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Jul 01, 2009 11:52 AM
Assuming Flintoff recovers from his injury...... Also, this is late summer Ashes in England....early summer Ashes in England is in May/June..
This will be July/August...so the pitches will be drier and take more turn......so expect spinners on both sides to do well....... If Flintoff is fit, he will be a real success on cracked pitches..... I also hope that Hoggard is recalled!!
Re: Re: Re: I think England will win Ashes......
by kavita kulkarni on Jul 01, 2009 11:54 AM
yes... and considering that Aussies lack a quality spinner, the Poms will be really looking forward to playing on drier surfaces... hoever Mitchell Johnson is a huge threat to them given any surface...
Re: Re: Re: Re: I think England will win Ashes......
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Jul 01, 2009 11:58 AM
Mitchell Johnson and Stuart Clark both......cos they can extract the variable bounce from cracked up surfaces..i think the key in this series will be winning the toss and putting up a good score....the side chasing last will be in trouble on vicious turners....
Expect Monty and Swann to do extremely well at the London Oval...that pitch is a vicious turner!!
How good is Nathan Hauritz?????? Hardly effective!!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I think England will win Ashes......
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Jul 01, 2009 12:06 PM
Jason Kreiza went for a lot ofd runs against India but picked 12 wickets...he would have been a great choice....thankfully that joker Bryce McGain is not picked..... Hauritz is economical but not wicket taker...he is ok in ODIs but not in tests!! Australia will pay dearly for not having a quality spinner....
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: I think England will win Ashes......
by kavita kulkarni on Jul 01, 2009 12:04 PM
even katich and clarke are better than hauritz.... selectors should have gone for Krejza... even though he leaks runs, he has a knack of picking wickets and plus he can turn the ball square.... and monty wont be picked for sure
Re: I think England will win Ashes......
by Balaji Krishnamurthy on Jul 04, 2009 07:15 AM
The key is how the Aussies bat and how they bowl with the old ball. For England, Pietersen and Flintoff hold the key. Ravi Bopara has got runs against a weak West Indian attack. The Aussie bowling attack is pretty good, but the lack of a quality spinner could hurt them. They need to use Simon Katich. With regards to Panesar, he ruined his case with some very ordinary bowling in India. If he can't do well in India,I don't see him doing well anywhere. He could end up like another Graeme Hick unless he does some serious introspection. To say that he is still learning is not an excuse for poor bowling;three years in international cricket is a long enough apprenticeship.
this is Only for the King. For ur kind information Ricky won 1st WC in 2003 and Shane Warne was not there, in 2007 Brett Lee was not there. As far as T-20 in concerned, leave 2009 Wc of T-20. Inspite of Gilly, Hayden, Brett Lee any many others match winner they could not won 2007 WC of T-20. Aus has not blessed that they can not be defeated ever but they are supremo of World Cricket. Although I too want that Eng may win 2009 Ashes.
