Re: Gough and Cork still playing ?
by Your Mate on Jan 30, 2009 06:08 AM
Actually Cork and Gough are not that old, they retired early coz of fitness reasons. We tend to forget that Tendulkar is playing for the last 20 years, jayasurya and murali for the last 15-18 years. It speaks volume on their fitness levels. I do not know what is shaun udal doing...he is 39 years and retired long time back (more than 3 years ago).
given the current economic scenario, do you guys really believe that people will spend the kind of money for the tickets that was spent last year ? I have my serious doubts and I will be very happy to see the tournament getting scrapped (as is ICL).
when common man is fighting for survival thanks to the economic downturn, to host a mega tamasha is the height of insensitivity. the fact that common man will also watch it is no excuse.

Kalyanaraman, the havenots have always been fighting for survival even when the economy was in the upswing till the end of 2007 This has been the case in india always. It is not due to any economic downturn now. Again, would u also recommend banning music shows, be it classical music or film music, drama, theatre, dance, or spending time going to temples because there is a global meltdown? Again u contradict urself by saying that common wd watch it, so where is the question of it getting scrapped? So, If u don't like cricket, just avoid watching it instead of advicing others!

I think you have absolutely missed the point (I hate saying this, but your posting forces me to do that). every point that you bring is reinforcing my viewpoint. e.g.,
1)I said "the kind of money". where on earth do you spend (I don't, but you may be, arising out of a super-rich group) 5000 for 4 hours. if your music shows and temple visit ? 2)I have also said "the common man watching it is no excuse". there is no contradiction. having seen through the mania that swept past chennai in the last 2 years and seeing the current scenario, one gets the eerie feeling that comes in.
my posting is not to advise you or others, but to put across my feelings. there is nothing in that post that tells you whether I like cricket or not. If you strongly believe that dissenting posts are not to be allowed or encouraged, then I think that belief is ill-placed !

Kalyan raman as far as money is concern it doesnt come only from the sale of tickets it comes from satellite rights ,advertisement, sponsers and all..the money which comes from the sale of ticket is very less in this case..n u dnt need to worry about all this.. this way its helping india only by bringing foreign exchange by sponsers which are mostly multi national companies.

Well said...but why cheers for that. This time around cricket entertainment will take a back seat. Let them understand that this is real.

Have people stop going to Multiplexes...No they haven't.Otherwise Gajhini wouldn't have more than a billion rupees in domestic collection. So why would they stop going to IPL? Yea its up to the franchisees to decide the ticket price but it just wond fade away so easily. In Mumbai, a couple would spend 500 bucks for a stupid film...it is much better to spend it in a live audience....

Parashar
people have not stopped going to multiplexes and spending money on films. but I am talking about the "quantum of money" that was to be spent. honestly tell me, would the couples, spending 500 for a stupid film, be prepared to spend 6000-10000 for a 4 hour show this year ? I do not need an answer from you, just an introspection !

Dear Kalyan , first scrap you computer and give away you internet connection, it can fetch one meal for a thousand people. happy ? can ask one of your friends to give us the feedback.

Milind
I am using my computer and internet connection for my survival (as my job and sustenance depend on using computers; now do not think I am working in an IT company. I don't; i am a freelancer, who earn money doing odd computer-jobs, like any 'aam aadmi'). if I give up as you have suggested, then I will perish. I do not think you have my peril in mind !
secondly, I also spend my hard-earned money to help the 'have nots' wherever I can ! as a consequence of that, one thing I never do is to pay the "obscene, princely" money to watch a 4-hours tamasha, that only goes to line the pockets of those, who already have!!
you got your feedback from me directly ! why wait for my friends !!
