Virender Sehwag - quick start / Bowler atleast 4- 5 overs Sachin Tendulkar - anchor -try and not lose wicket for 15-20 overs with a strike rate of 80 ... Bowl atleast 2-3 overs. Gautam Gambhir - playmaker - go for long innings Suresh Raina - playmaker - long innings Rohit Sharma - if 3 wkts fall before 15 overs -come at positiion 5 else 6 bowl atleast 2-3 overs Yuvraj Singh- always after 20 overs bowl atleast 3-4 overs Mahendra Singh Dhoni - playmaker always after 25 overs. Ravindra Jadeja - anchor / main spinner Irfan Pathan / Yusuf Pathan - depends on pitch for bowling for batting either can be used as pinch hitters of slog after 40 overs. Zaheer Khan -slog Ishant Sharma / Praveen Kumar- depends on pitch
i thinh now sachin will come on two down as gautam and sehwag doing really well and same time suresh is settle down on 1st down batsman.it will give him much chance as he is playing these day.i mean playing solid not hitting as he used to do in the past.

I think sachin pa should come at six down bcase if other young players fail in their mission sachin pa will finish the job without any difficulty. Since this strategy of sending the most valuable at six down aussies are failing as the newcomers who came as replacement for mcgrath steve waugh, martin, hyden etc, all this humiliating defeats are occuring for aussies. This grave mistake should not happen to teamindia.
Munaf is consistently bowling well since couple of series with ball though one can say that his fielding abilities are questionable....Irfan case is the fall of his own game lead to the position he is in. His Primary role of bowling is not at the great level to picked ahead of munaf
i don't understand why is team management so much reluctant to play irfan & instead rely on munaf who niether delivers with ball nor ball...least said not on the field as well....does the captain have an answer...why is the one time bowler leading the way is warming the bench...infact he adds strength to batting as well...

You are right...they thought a specialist bowler is the need of the time...but munaf proved that he is not that too...hope change will happen...but again winning combinations are rarely changed...

Munaf had a decent series with England recently. I don't find Irfan's benching very strange - he was not performing. Stranger is the way Praveen K has been sidelined - he was Dhoni's golden boy at the start of 2008 with Aus, SA and Pak series. And he proved worthy of the confidence by always taking a wkt or two in his opening quota.
Not sure why he suddenly finds himself out of consideration.
not using Yuvi and Sachin to bowl a few overs. Sachin, Yuvi and Viru have proven that they did pretty godd job of bowling 5-6 overs each. Sachin/Viru did take wickets regularly whenever they were called to chip in the bowling department. Ganguly always used them, so why not now?
Does anyone know the real reason behind such decision of not using Sachin/Viru by our GREAT captain. One may argue that he does not want to over use their talents; but is it the real reason!!

What are you talking about? Sehwag and Yuvi are used so often by Dhoni. Sehwag even bowled dozens of overs in the recent test matches while Yuvi is consistently used as a partnership breaking option by Dhoni. Yes, Sachin was used much less in the second half of 2008 but it could be his own choice as well - what with all the problems with his elbow, back and age.
Its just in this first ODI that Yuvi was not used; of course, Sehwag wasn't playing - so hard to get a few overs from him regardless of how "GREAT" our captain is :)
If Jayasurya was in team India then he wouldn't have been playing now for the team. Almost two years back thats just before world cup Jayasurya was out of form and in that series with India won the series 6-1.At that time he was 37. If he was in team India then some of our useless pupil would have demanded his retirement like they are doing with Sachin Tendulkar nowadays whenever he is out of form.

well, lets not say that....sachin is still playing...it was almost over for sanath, but srilanka had no options as their bench strength was not performing...lets not forget sanath came back just in asia cup '08 & a failure there would have been the end of road for him...& as such he had to quit playing test to forgo his one day career...come on lets not just keep on critisizing indai for everything...for playing performers & for not playing non performers

We all love Sachin so much that we get upset even if he fails in just 1 match, even if it was an erroneous decision. That is the power and impact of Sachin on us.
