Should India play cricket when there is war
by your Doctor on Jan 19, 2009 10:29 PM

Cricket is a game to strengthen countries, as we have cancelled Pakistan tour, we should cancel this Sri Lanka tour, when there is was in a country i dont understand how our Government has permitted this tour in a place of war. Is it essential to play with Sri Lanka at this juncture.

ONE DAY SQUAD
by damodaran mohan on Jan 19, 2009 05:22 PM  | Hide replies

It is ok, except that Irfan Pathan does not merit inclusion. He is certainly not the all rounder the selectors are looking for.He can neither bat nor bowl well in the international level. He is the indian cricketers to have got maximum chances during the last three years inspite of poor form. His selection is rank favouritism. Dhawal Kulkarni, Sreesanth, Ashok Dinda ......were more desrving. On the other hand it is wise of the selectors to have given a chance to Praveen Kumar to help him make a come back.BCCI should not allow him to get himself lost in the wilderness.Ravindra Jadeja is deserving .One more youngster& Mumbai opener A.Rahane it seems will have to wait for Sachin to vacate a slot. Best of luck to Rahane.

Badarinath is a better all-rounder than Irfan. But, Pathans need money to complete their palace.

VERY HARD FOR VIRAT KOHLI
by rambo only on Jan 19, 2009 02:08 PM  | Hide replies

He was one of the successful batsmen in last Sri Lanka Tour. Unfair to him. He should have been in place of Rohit Sharma.

Further, Praveen Kumar and Irfan Pathan do not deserve to be in team. Instead Dhawal Kulkarni or Sreesanth should have been selected.

Instead of Ojha, Amit Mishra would have been a deserving choice.

First 2 ODI playing Eleven Should Be
by Senthil on Jan 19, 2009 01:49 PM  | Hide replies

1. Virender Sehwag
2. Sachin Tendulkar
3. Gautam Gambhir
4. Suresh Raina
5. Yuvraj Singh
6. M S Dhoni
7. Yusuf Pathan
8. Ravindra Jadeja
9. Praveen Kumar
10.Zaheer Khan
11.Ishant Sharma

This would be the great ODI team in the world right now. India will have good Batsman's upto 8th and our 9th and 10th can play a cameo. We have 3 great fast Bowlers can swing the ball. we have one good spinner R.Jadeja (Joint Highest wicket Taker in the Ranji) we have Yusuf, Yuvi, Sehwag to bowl part time spin. If Need Sachin (he is the Second highest wicket taker in our Squad after Zaheer - Funny Stats) can roll over his arm. We have great fielders such as Yuvi, Raina.
Dare to beat this team.

Tendulkar played well as opener with Ganguly in the past. But now since Sehwag & Gambhir has proved to be an excellent opening pair Sachin should not seperate them. He may come on his usual No.4 position after Raina (no.3).Team India should include an Alrounder at No.7 position.

Irfan Pathan is not deserved be in the Squad itself.

Yuvi still clueless against Mendis. So I thought Rohit and he can swap the place if the Pitch assisting space(Yuvi) / Spin (Rohit). For Dambulla we can sent Rohit for other Matches we can send Yuvi.

Other two options should be Given Rotation b/w them. Two spaces for first 2 ODI's, so both R. Jadeja & P.Ojha should Play dropping P.Kumar and M.Patel. Likewise we can rest Sachin, Zaheer & Ishant. We need to preserve Zaheer & Ishant for NZ tour.

Perfect team, but Yuvraj will not drop and play in whole series.
Mendis will face real competition against Gambhir, Sehwag, Sachin, Raina, Dhoni and Y.Pathan. Most of them were not in last ODI series against SriLanka.

Yes. I agree. But i want to Yuvi perform well. I fear he is losing his wicket every time to Mendis. Anyway Rohit will get opportunity when Sachin takes rest in the 4th or 5th ODI. I want Y.Pathan to hit Mendis all over the park in the death overs. Mhela is using him after 40th over lot of times.

He is the most talented batsman in the World today. Was just unlucky against Mendis. His two back-to-back 100s vs England must help him a lot.

Yes. This time we have Y.Pathan also who is very good player of spin. Gambhir didn't play the 1st ODI last time that we lost.
Raina and Dhoni has played well against Mendis last time.

He gets many wickets in overs 1 and 10.
1, because people think, he can be hit.
10, because they think, he won't come again.

Gambhir
Sehwag
Raina
Yuvaraj
Dhoni
Ravindra
Yousuf
Irfan
Praveen
Zaheer
Ishanth

If Sachin wants to play then he can play in Raina's place at No.3 or even at No.4 by promoting Yuvaraj at No.3, but definitely not as opener

2 spinners in Ravindra & Yousuf and even Yuvaraj is enough for Lanka and we should really attack them with our Fast-Bowlers bowling at full-pace, short-pitch and short-spell-quick-bursts (should not get into any kind of useless conception like Srilanka pitches assist only spinners, etc)

4. Raina
5. Yuvaraj
6. Dhoni
7. Y.Pathan
8. P.Kumar
