why rediff write things out of context?
by sam cool on Jan 17, 2009 08:39 AM

Actually Shewag said hydo was a huge sledger. He was doing sledging while fielding and also while batting. That is the reason Sehwag said "it would be relief to batsman"

Perfect Replacement
by Mojo Jojo on Jan 16, 2009 06:33 AM  | Hide replies

People don't forget that there is this youngster named Shaun Marsh. Man of the Series in the first edition of the IPL, he is just the perfect replacement for Matt Hayden. Though not of that huge size and power this lad showed what he is made up of in those IPL games. Put him with Simon Katich and lo!!! we have another shiny aussie opening pair. Or may be put David Warner in that mix too.

no i dont think shaun marsh is player for long term. its not just talent its the physical build up too. that makes a player 'lambe race ka ghoda'. you can see even at 37 hyden was fit aggressive and strong than any other player in the team. sachin was lot more aggrasice than hayden during his peak time i mean in his 20,s but s he neared 30 he could maintain his physic and had to deal with many injuries and loss in form and aggresion. so it wont be easy for australia to find a replacement for such a strong fit and aggresive player. shaun marsh is tanlented but not fit and strong for long race.

if you meant shane watson. he is just a middle order allrounder. not even a top order batsmen. but yes shaun marsh should now take the palce of hayden in opening for australia. but it is difficult for him to reach the calliber of hayden

Intelligent Hayden

I think it was thoughtful decision. Now he can make big money in IPL...If we was in Aus side then he would have missed half the matches....

good thinking, I finally see the real reason for his quitting. I was quite shocked when I heard the news. With his over puffed ego and condescending attitude,it was hard to believe that he was finally hanging up his hooks. But ah, realisation was finally dawned upon me.

don't think hayden is great batsman then why he dropped in 1992,1996.When he scored highest runs in India then he got a place in Australian team.and we all know Indian Pitches are very good for batting. If we see his record against good fast balling attack like S.A,Pak & NZ he failed against them.

Hayden was good ... but not a great
by nischal maniar on Jan 15, 2009 08:07 PM  | Hide replies

Hayden made these big runs and dominated the bowlers .. becoz none of the teams had good bowling attack. Shoaib akhtar would be banned most of the times ... Brett lee, mcgrath, warne, gillespie were in his own team. Shane Bond was injured. India didnt have good fast bowlers until zaheer cameback and ishant came into the scene. South africa didnt have dale steyn.
So there was no body trouble hayden .. it was all help yourself bowlers and Hayden used to walk down the pitch and help himself.
Now when he is facing bowlers who are quick and also swing the ball ... he got out cheaply.
Whereas ... Sachin, Ponting, Lara, Waughs .. they all played top class bowlers during their time from walsh, ambrose , donald to lee, akhtar and mcgrath.

You say that Ponting faced top class bowlers like Walsh, Ambrose, Donald and Akhtar. Do you mean that Shoaib Akthar was banned when Hayden was batting, and when Ponting came to the crease the bank was lifted. You have also chosen to ingore the fact that Hayden scored runs in India against Bhaajji/MKumble and in Sri Lanka, against Murali.

Hayden may not be great, but considered to other opening batsmen in the past 15 years, he is miles ahead. India just has Sehwag now, Pak had Saeed Anwar, Sri Lanka had Jaysurya, SA had Kirsten and Hudson, England had Atherton....but none were able to come close to his stats.

Sachin scored a hundred in the semi finals against Saurashtra. In this match Sachin was suffering from viral fever. Please give Sachin his due. He is still scoring runs unlike Dravid who is in the team for God knows why?

sehwag learn from hayden..
by Harish Iyer on Jan 15, 2009 05:30 PM

hayden was very consistent till 2007.
sehwag's form is irratic. he had great series against aus but failed against eng.
he played just one match winning innings. but this is not sufficient. Even sehwag knows he has not scored century for last 10-15 innings.
