Is ghaati frustration warranted ?
by Mukul on Jan 08, 2009 11:53 AM  | Hide replies

I am not one of those who feels happy at the state of ghaatis in Mumbai. That said, it would be worthwhile if these guys try and change themselves as opposed to getting frustrated and blaming others for their failures. The only way to counter failure is to look inside and not cringe on success of others, which is something quite a few ghaatis do on this forum. 60 out of every 100 people you see on Mumbai's roads live in slums, while only about 15 of them happen to come from North India. In all likelihood, no more than 10 out of 100 are likely to be inhabitants of UP and Bihar. That proves that the overwhelming majority of slum inhabitants in Mumbai are ghaatis, which is just sad. It is easy to fall prey to the socialist kind of thought process that Thackeray and his cronies preach and begin the blame game. However, it is more helpful to get one's socks up, roll up the sleeves and work hard to achieve success. There is no reason why ghaatis can't be as successful as North or South Indians in the corporate world. The first step is to inculcate the right approach and engage in some deep introspection.

Mukul a person lives like Raj -thackeray if he is a tiger and dies like Raj - Rahul raj..(in a bus) if coward.
You know what apparently Rahul Raj like most of the Bhai**yyas was new to mumbai and came to kill raj thackeray..He saw the double decker for the first time and someone told him to go on the top level. Seeing no driver at the top level he got scared as to how the bus is running and took his gun out to kill everyone..

Ghaati Politics in cricket
by Prateek Sharma on Jan 08, 2009 07:56 AM  | Hide replies

Nobody can argue the extent to which ghaatis have been favored in selection in the past, even when they continued to fail. Case in point are the following ghaatis - Ajit Agarkar and Vinod Kambli. While the latter was nothing short of Tendulkar's favorite pupppy (which explains why Tendulkar has the worst captaincy record in Indian cricket's history), the former certainly sports the worst average of any contemporary strike bowler. What a shame !

Don't live in outright denial. It ain't healthy. The only time these two teams have met in the advanced stage was in 98 semis, when Obaid Kamal and Ashish Winston Zaidi ripped apart the slum-dwelling ghaati brigade. In recent years, UP has dominated the domestic circuit and will continue to do so.

Abey whats wrong in Saying Jai Maharashtra when Mumbai has defeated Saurashtra? Afterall this is not an international game. Jai hind is there at the top always in the heart but one level below its Jai Maharashtra...Great show mumbai..We have a stamp on the Ranji trophy. Shame on the selectors who ignore Ranji champions and select morons..and thats the reason Jai Maharashtra. Even in this match Rahane, Jaffer were top notch. But we still harp about Pujara

There is nothing wrong in supporting one's state. However, given your choise of words elsewhere, it is clear that you are one of those people who tend to put one's state ahead of one's country.

That's not a fact. It is your opinion. The fact is that this is UP's third appearance in Ranji Finals in 4 years. In this period, they have won the 05-06 tropy, the Nisar Trophy vs Sialkot and 06 season's Ranji ODI series as well. They also secured the innings lead against Delhi in the finals last year but Gambhir played extremely well to pull the game away from them in what would have been their second champinship in 3 years. Another fact that you may want to know is that UP has more centrally contracted players on BCCI's list than Mumbai, which is very fair, given their far better track-record in recent years. It is always critical to differentiate between opinions and facts.
